Missing Days from Work... will I get Fired?

opinion 2 Within the past 2 months I've called in sick once gotten taken from work by ambulance once for a terrible problem and now i have to have major oral surgery...not happy! Can they fire me for this? It's just been bad ...and oh I'm getting married in 4 months and am taking my vacation for it ...so yeah should I be worried about getting fired?

It depends on your employment history with them. How long have you been working there? If it's only been a short while, then yes, I'd be worried. If you have been there a long time, they may be more apt to understand.

Completely depends on how long you have worked for them, what your contract says and what type of people they are. If your really worried I'd just talk to them and see if you can take some of your time off without pay.

If you have been working for them for a short period of time, then yes you probably will be fired unless they are super understandable. I have been in your situation many times. Life is life, and it is very unpredictable at times. It sucks when you start a new job, then things start to happen. Attribute it to Murphy's Law. Such is life. Life is unfair, and even if things are out of your control, you still may be punished unjustly. Human beings are just that..human beings..we get ill, we have family emergencies, etc..but if they all happen in a short period of time, then the other party will probably just see someone who cannot be depended on. I sympathize w/you OP and hope your employers are understanding of your situation. Best of luck to you. ;)

I think it depends on your employers. I would talk to them. Explain that you love your job but just have had a lot of bad things happen lately. I would make sure that you try to really go above and beyond when you are there...just to show the family that you are really committed. Things happen and hopefully you have some sick time you can use up. I am a nanny and had to ask for a week off 6 weeks into my job last year. I told them I did not expect to be paid for the week given I had only worked there such a short time. They did pay me and have actually ended up being the best family ever. I would talk to them though. Here's the thing..it doesn't matter what anyone tells you on here, yes they can fire you or no they can't. Ultimately its between you and your employers.
