DSW Shoe Warehouse in Studio City, CA

PLEASE help find out who this nanny is:
nanny sighting logo
On Monday January 12th at the DSW Shoe warehouse on Laurel Cyn and Ventura, Studio City at about 11:30 am a hispanic nanny was with two little boys. One seemed to be about 3ish and the other an infant, 4-5 months old... both had beautiful blue eyes. They were in a stroller (black or gray) facing each other. The 3 year old boy had a (black or navy) baseball hat on, jeans and very full little pouty lips and the infant; light blue footie pajamas. The nanny neglected the children for about 20 minutes as the infant screamed... the kind of scream that creates such concern in a mother that the hair on your arms stand on end. The Jens List member approached her and suggested she pick the baby up- she was VERY confrontational and said she couldn't pick the baby up cause her hands were full of shoes. She then left the stroller unattended to go pay for her shoes (as the infant continued to scream/ hyperventilate) for at least 5 minutes- so much time that a stranger (another older woman) unbuckled the child and held him... the nanny did nothing to stop a stranger from cradling this baby. Another verbal confrontation occured between the nanny and the Jens List member before the nanny took off down the stairs under the escalator and VIOLENTLY YANKED the baby from the stroller. The Jens List member made a police report . The nanny got into a SILVER X- TERRA SUV License plate number 5PYH097. The Jens List member took a picture of this nanny with her camera phone- although it is a side view. This Jens list member would LOVE to talk to the parents of these poor little boys. If anyone has any info/ questions PLEASE contact her kdattilo@mac.com ASAP.

I was wondering the same thing. That POOR baby. My heart breaks for that baby. I will say that leaving little children unattendad is epidemic in this city. I had my friends 6 year old at the park on Sunday, watched as a mother with 4 children took them to the car yet left a screaming toddler alone. This park is EXTREMELY busy, so busy that people have to park on the side of the road just to find parking. I so wanted to go and teach the mother a lesson by picking up the child. How dare people do this. If you can't handle a that many cildren and do other things, then you have no business even going out in public with children.

How awful! Thank you for posting, OP. I'm really impressed that someone went above the call of a dutiful citizen and the Police made a report on this Nanny for her horrible behavior.

Thanks for posting this, OP.
I'm so glad you and the jen's list member (?) stepped in to help this child, I wish there were more people like you. I think it's great that there is a place here that you can report a bad nanny, but even better to call the police so that there is a report on file as proof for these parents to see.
(Did you find out why the baby was crying in the first place?)

Wow, what an AWFUL excuse for a caregiver. I am very glad to hear that someone attemped to comfort the baby AND tried to intervene in this horrible situation and VERY glad that a police report was made and identifying details were captured. So much for people's "right to privacy" when behaving horribly in public.

How do you know this person you saw was a Jen's List member? Did you guys discuss the whole scene after she made the report?

That honestly hurts my heart. Why would anyone be a nanny unless they have a true love for kids? I feel so bad for that screaming baby.

I looked up Jens list! What an amazing woman!!5 boys including 2 sets of twins!!
Her blog is pretty informative with a lot of wonderful info! Check it out!!

As for the shoe shopping nanny,no one should ever yank a child out of a stroller. I too am glad the police report was made.Way to go Jens list member. Mom and dad will be contacted by the police and nanny will hopefully be out on her butt...as she should be!

Wow, I would really love some followup on this... what a disgusting thing to see and experience for everyone involved! It is very hard to do things with two toddlers, but THAT IS NO EXCUSE for neglect! The children must always come first.
Going to hug my own kids now!

OP
I hope you will follow up with this story and find out whether or not this nanny was caught. Please keep us informed of anything new that happens.
Thank you so much for sending this in.

I agree with Nanny In Charge.. I'm mean being a Nanny is NOT a simple, easy, or predictable job. WHY would anyone EVER do it if you didnt love kids? If you don't love kids and doing kid type things this would seem to be a horrible job for someone. I just dont understand people sometimes. There is nothing under the sun that an infant to do that should make a parent or caregiver act this way. yes is can be frustrating, but it's not like the baby is doing it just to spite someone. It's just so gross to hear about things like this. What's even more horrifying is if they act like this in PUBLIC.. i couldn't stand to think about what goes on behind closed doors!

" Why would anyone be a nanny unless they have a true love for kids?"

One reason is because they are not legal to work, and it is very easy for them to find a nanny job off the books.

Good post OP.

How many times did OP have to say Jen's List? Shameless promotion anyone?

Wow if a stranger tried to hold my charge I would go ape shit on them. No way in the world would I allow some stranger to hold a child that I was in charge of, you never know what that person's intention is.

On that note the lady should have stopped her shoe shopping and comforted the baby. I remember what it was like taking a 5 month old charge out when I had errands to run. It's not easy but the child should come first, after all that is your job.

I hope the parents are contacted and this lady is fired on the spot.

Wow, I just saw the news and I am SO HAPPY that a honest citizen took a picture of this nanny. After seeing Oprah, "What would you do" and reading about this heroic lady who took the time to post a blog and contact the news, I have a more positive outlook on doing what's right to a stranger. I am a new mom of a 5mos old who goes to daycare... I wish I could be an at home mom, but finances limit that. HOWEVER, I did my COMPLETE research for the perfect family care center and I am pleased. Long story short, the daycare my daughter belongs to was once on channel 7 news for being one of the most honest daycares in my area and it's a husband and wife team who have been in the business for over 25yrs. They took care of the parents of some of the toddlers that are there now...This nanny needs to be LOCKED UP! I just cringe at the thought of something happening like that to my child...I pray the employer of this nanny wakes up and fires her; as stated on the news, this is not the only time someone has complained about her nanny...now she's posted on the news and I guess it had to take this to happen for her to finally fire her!

Posted on the news? Oprah? What's that about?

Hmmmmmmm, I agree.

Can someone do a search of the license plate #? It's probably the parent's vehicle anyway. They really need to know who's taking care of their children!

heather,
The police will go to the home where the car is registered...although I suppose it is possible this is nanny's own car...in which case I doubt she will be telling the parents that the police stopped by to question her aboiut abusing their baby.

But does anybody know...will they want to see the baby in question to make sure he is OK? Since there is a picture, she can't deny having had the baby with her.

And OP, was she shopping for shoes for herself or for the children? I know there are those who disagree here, but I would never want my nanny shoe or clothes shopping for herself while in charge of my kids. Group daycare is much cheaper than having a nanny. I imagine that people who go to the expense of hiring a nanny do so because they want thier children to have good, stimulating one on one care...not be strapped in a stroller screaming while nanny drags them along on her personal errands as if she barely had a job to do at all.

I think the police can check out who the plates belong too, and go from there. I am so happy someone did something about this obnoxious nanny. Something was wrong with the baby, and she didn't take the time to soothe him. Perhaps she is trying to land a doctor or the children's father, so she had to find the right shoes to go with the clothes. She may have great accessories, but she is an awul human being. I remember someone once told me to listen to an infant cry for a minute. A minute to adults is just that, a minute to a baby is an eternity. Maybe this nanny could work for that OP who posted the BS about nannies? Or maybe this nanny is friends with Em?

My dear sweet MissDee
Why, oh why, would you want to get into the middle of these flame wars with Em vs. every other person on here?
Now that you've singled her out I wouldn't be surprised if she retaliated against you for it.

I really hope you brought a suit of body armor with you, honey.

Disturbia: I was only being sarcastic when I mentioned Em, however, I was telling the truth when I said her comments make my head spin.

Jens list is at www.jenlevinson.com and if you live in or around Los Angeles it's a subscription you need.

FYI it was an item in Jen's List email blast and I forwarded it to Jane Doe.

Jane added "Jen's List" so no one was shamelessly promoting.
