Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich, CT

Received Friday, November 21, 2008.
nanny sighting logo I just witnessed a really horrible nanny dragging a little girl down Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich, CT. The nanny was overweight, dressed in polyester slacks, a tight black shirt with leopard sleeves and the little girl was wearing a pink fur/faux fur jacket and had her hands in a muffler. The nanny was dragging her by her arm/coat and the little girl was clearly saying, "ow" and "you are hurting my arm".

Ouch! Didn't polyester go out in the 70's? *LOL* Anyway, how bout we drag that nanny down the street and see how she likes it? Holding a child's hand is one thing, but dragging a child down the street and the child expressing that they are in pain is something different.

Idk i know i am gonna get shot down hard for this but sometimes i have to drag my little girl. Now i mean a firm grasp on her arm and sorta making her come because if not she will lay right there on the floor and throw a fit. we all know that love to not go when you need them to move. Not saying i at all agree with the nanny dragging a kid i am just saying that sometimes kids require a little bit of someone getting them to move. BUt, if this child seemed to not be creating resistence or anything then pulling a child until they say ow is in no way ok.

Imjustsaying-

I'm with you on this one. When I first started my position my 3 year old charge would run away from me at the park while I had a baby strapped to my chest. It happened twice and both times you better believe I dragged him home, sent him to his room and took every toy, with the approval of him mother. Sorry OP but you have no idea what this little girl did, but if this little didn't do anything, then you are totally right, bad nanny.

No.. I'm with you guys as well. We have no idea what this little girl was doing. Dragging is sometimes necessary, she wasn't hitting her.

Sometimes, I have to grab my son by the arm too. Its not to be mean, but mainly a safety issue. When he gets mad about something sometimes he tries taking off on me. So I have to grab him.

Wow I'm very suprised that i am not getting blasted here. I mean I totally do not agree with people just dragging a kid becasue they are in a hurry but somone with a tight grip on a kids arm may be doing it for a good reason. Although I am not sure if the mother would like her child being "dragged" anyways so I guess its good to post it in case the parents disapprove.

The nanny may not have even been hurting the little girl by grabbing her arm, sometimes kids say those things to get attention or to be let go.
When I was a child I would trip or something then limp around for hours for sympathy. Or my step-son will go to the dentist and say Ow! and the dentist hasn't even done anything yet.
Children sometimes like to be over dramatic for effect, and I agree with everyone else here that we don't know what initially caused her to be drug by the arm

The only crime the nanny is definitely guilty is a fashion crime: leopard SLEEVES? Dear God.

LOL--

Pheonix... I hear ya on this one. There was one time I took my charge to the market, and becasue she didn't get the cart she wanted through holy hell RIGHT THERE in the store-- I had to tuck her under my arm like a footbal kicking and screaming oiut of the store (Ihad an infant in the frontpack Snugli) she screamed OW the whole time. I even got stopped by the security guard. lol. Of course when she had to explain to the guard she was throwing a tantrum she was duly embarrassed....

Sometimes we do have to "drag" a reluctant child along, but by the hand. Grabbing her arm tightly probably did hurt.

At any rate, this nanny should be reported to the fashion police!

it is actually more dangerous to grab a child and pull them along by the hand than it is the arm. Pulling on the hand can lead to damage of the wrist and elbow.
Just a little info!

Pulling on any part of the arm can be harmful to a child, I should know- my shoulder came out of socket at least three times when I was under 5 yrs!

It was more from a jerking action rather than a pulling along action, though.

Although we dont know the real details surrounding the nanny and the "arm" thing, I would like to say that I do not condone this nanny's behaviour, and that I have never dragged a child.

I usually say to child, after repeated warnings that its time to go, lets go. If child refuses to go or pretends not to hear when I know fully well that they have, I have never had to pull a child or grab them by the arm, I usually just walk away pretending not to look back but doing so from the corner of my eye, knowing full well that the child will come after a while, or after I have gone some distance. It works all the time. However I do know how far to go, and I am aware of where the child is.

I would also note that the child was 6 yrs at the time and absolutely no younger...

i too sometimes have to put a tight hold on the two year old boy's hand and walk very fast, even if he doesn't seem to be keeping up. there are a couple of major reasons, mainly because sometimes he doesn't stay with me. either he drags behind because he's mad at me or he wants to run ahead in a place where it's unsafe.

there is not enough info here to be sure this was a bad nanny. she may have been a very responsible nanny.

p.s. smart kids will say "you're hurting me" in public because they know it gets the wrong kind of attention.

Judging by the horrible fashion sense of both nanny AND charge, perhaps it was mommy and not nanny?

Either way, poor kid...pink faux fur and a muffler? Ouch. Sounds like someone is playing dress up with their little one.

I got my ass dragged all over town! Usually it was because I was being a jackass.

K,
You are right. I didn't mean I LITERALLY drag them, but yes, yanking or "dragging" a young child by the hand or arm can lead to dislocation injuries. Something we all need to keep in mind.
