Jonathan Kay on Internet Trolls...

You probably have met an Internet troll — even if you don’t know the term. They are the juvenile cretins who infest Internet message boards, taunting the earnest types chatting away about Gossip Girls, or Barack Obama, or Scientology. Their method is to post willfully ignorant, insulting messages, then sit back and enjoy the righteous, impotent fury aroused among the true believers.
Trolling is an inherently nihilistic activity — which is why most trolls tend to be adolescent males, the sort of specimens who would otherwise entertain themselves by using bathroom graffiti to libel the sexual habits of high-school classmates. But there is a small elite that has turned trolling into a full-time calling. They congregate on anonymous web sites such as 4chan.org, and informally tally the “lulz” they’ve earned by humiliating others.

I just came back after spending a nice evening with my family ,putting the kids to bed and some great alone time with my honey to find that a few monikered trolls felt the need to make accusations towards me about something they know nothing about.
Why do these people feel the need to badger so many posters? Then claim innocence?

Do they really feel that self important that they think they are entitled to come on this site and try and embarrass someone or make them feel bad? To act like they know someones work schedule, how much money they make or what is happening minute to minute throughout their day? What kind of people hold themselves in such high regard? Why do they feel such entitlement?
Am I the only one that finds it pathetic that these people count how many times a day we blog or how many key strokes we have under our belt.
Perhaps because the must spend so much time tracking who posted when and at what time that they do not realize it literally takes only minutes to read the comment section, find a new comment and post? Do they really think we spend all day in front of our computer tracking other posters, as they do?
I cannot even imagine wanting to keep track of who is posting when and how many times a day they post? I am greatful to have better things to do.I think these people need a reality check.
It takes more time to throw in a load of laundry or wash dishes during the day then it does to check in on ISYN.

As I said earlier..some nannies/sAHM watch soaps all day. some do laundry, some do the mailman, I check in with ISYN . Thats what the technology of a laptop is for.

And sitting out in the backyard while kids are running through the sprinklers and drinking lemonade makes blogging on ISYN even more fun!

BTW little trolls, the laptop( that I could never justify buying with 3 kids and 3 college funds)) That I take outside when the kids & I play, was my Christmas gift last year from my little charge, whose mother knows I am in love with ISYN! She thinks the site is a hoot and she blogs on a site that deals with her profession! Ya, gotta love her!
Sorry for the long rant..I was just super angry and glad that this post and topic was here!

Cheers!

BLB
I saw what happened, please don't be upset. They don't know you like I do... nobody does. I know you're good with your children and your charges, and I know you'd never do anything to neglect them.
You're a good person, that's all that matters.

sorry cfg, I tried to get right back to you to say"thanks". I saw both your posts and I appreciated them. However, My littlest angel woke up wanting to nurse..she is so cute. Then she wanted to play..I told her" I don't think so chickie.." I put her in her crib and she went right back to sleep!
They are so much fun!
I guess the thought of someone accusing me of being a neglectful mommy or nanny was more upsetting than I realized and thus my long rant. I have been accsued of alot of things( and have conceded to a lot of things) but never that!

I am over it now..but I was pretty upset for a few good minutes.
Thanks though for the post..you are , as always,a dear!!
I better get my butt to bed.
Happy posting!

Thank you for this post. Maybe I'm the only lame one who didn't know the actual definition of "troll," but it helped me out greatly.

Glad someone liked this article. I actually didn't mean for this necessarily to be posted on the blog; I just referred Jane to the article because I thought she'd find it interesting.

Maybe this will help us all learn not to FEED trolls. They have an agenda...and if they can't meet it on ISYN, they'll look elsewhere.
