You may have something here, Jane. I know you're trying to run 2 blogs and it's alot of work. Why not just combine both of them? It's all about protecting the children - whether from a bad nanny, parent, or douchebag such as the picture posted here. And on the slower days that your posters don't have anything to report, just put up this kind of stuff?
Ick.I don't believe in the death-penalty, but creeps like this really make me think twice.
11:13 As a Catholic, I find your post highly offensive.Jane, I am truly surprised you have allowed such a terribly biased, hateful comment to remain posted. And it's even worse if comment moderation was on and you approved it!
You seriously need to relax with regard to the comments. Comment moderation is a bitch. It's Sunday. Who wants to be tethered to a blog all day just because one pscyho is causing trouble. You should have some consideration for that fact instead of looking for something new. Did you read the comment policy? If you post on NY times or any newspaper, its the same- they are not responsible for the views expressed in the comment section. So why do you expect Jane to personally responsible for every dumb ass that posts? Why?Fact: Idiots post comments.Deal with it. Stop crying all the time. It's such a nuisance. I don't like the comment either, but Jeez, give it a rest. http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/3272/disclaimerisawyournannylt5.jpgSeriously.Tired of the thin skinned babies. There are hateful comments everywhere in the world. I don't want to read a blog full of things that are only approved for my eyes. That's BS!
I was just on here 2 hrs. ago, what the hell did I miss now?I don't understand why people have to act up and cause trouble all the time.I really dislike when Jane has to moderate the comments. It's a pain in the rear, especially for her, I'm sure. Some people need to find something better to do on a Sunday afternoon.
Ro you are so damn ignorant it's sad.
Is Ro really ignorant? she really cuts to nitty gritty - - true enough- -but hey I'm tired of all the milkteat crybabies on here myself
11:02, I didn't see the comment in question, but I can say that as a Catholic, you are guranteed to be offended by something 24/7/365, whether you come to Jane's blog or not, so maybe you should stick with some other offensive site.
I have not seen the comment, but to me, it is only right to use discretion when speaking of someone's religion. It is just kindness and common sense. True, there is always something to be offended about, but as a Catholic myself who never ever makes remarks about other religions, I too find it offensive when someone makes rude remarks about Catholics. We are not all wackos, some of us just hold it dear and it does hurt to see someone attack it, especially on a fun board that we frequent. This is a board frequented by parents, and to many parents, religion is a big part of who they are and how they raise their kids. In my opinion, it should be a zone safe from attacks on one's religion. Good for Jane for removing the offensive comment. Just my two cents.
I find it laughable that some of the same people who supported the censorship of a comment that happened to mention a bad mother was Jewish are calling someone else a crybaby, etc for standing up for their religion.
Sadly, there are people who will use any excuse to say hurtful things about race and/or religion. If we as the human race are to make any headway in the battle against predjudice, we must enforce a zero tolerance policy against this sort of thing whenever we can. Thank you Jane for removing a comment which was irrelevant, uncalled for and nasty. And to those of you calling the person who spoke up a Milkteat crybaby, thin skinned, and suggesting they go elsewhere, I invite you to do the same. Perhaps form your own little blog where ignorance and hate is not only tolerated but welcomed.
FNG I could not have said it better myself. ::applause::As for the scumbag depicted. The death penalty is too easy for this type of scum.
Anon 9:12 raises a very good point. Allowing freedom of speech on a blog or elsewhere is fine but it is also a difficult, double-edged sword to wield. On one hand, it's nice to allow many diiferent points of view to be published, but if you are going to allow opinions that attack certain people, religions, races, etc., then you have to allow all opinions like those to be published, lest the publisher be branded biased and maintaining a double-standard.I think Jane did the right thing in removing the comment if it offended someone. Jane is usually pretty fair about these things so it doesn't surprise me that she acted so swiftly. As for the comments of Cali-Mom and Ro, I suggest you ladies practice what you preach and develop your own thick skins. The next time you feel "attacked" on here make no comment and offer no defense.
Thanks for the advice, but I DO have a VERY thick skin. If I feel like posting a comment, I will do so, whether in response to someone who has attacked me or for any other reason.Having not seen whatever comment everyone is apparently so appalled by, perhaps my opinion on everyone else's opinion is not sufficiently educated. If somene would like to paraphrase it, those of us who have commented on it and been attacked for our comments might be able to form a better educated opinion on its contents and whether or not it deserved censorship.
Paraphrase--the comment had to do with the problem of Catholic Priests abusing young people and related it to the man in the photo.
Whoa.So I take it the Catholics were offended because it made them look bad as a whole or something? And that's why it was removed?
It is a horrible thing what happened and what happens with priests abusing children and people. It is equally horrible when anyone in a position of leadership does so: teachers, police officers, prison employees, parents, nannies. It is horrible and sad. That being said, the Catholic priests who have been abusive are not good people. They were not good people and they were not good Catholics. They were not doing what a Catholic was supposed to do. To me, it reflects on them as individuals, not on the religion. The people who "covered up" these crimes were also not good Catholics. Again, those people reflect on themselves, to me anyway, and not on my religion or my faith. My parents raised me to be good and caring and while I am far far far from perfect (oh, God am I) I still believe strongly in my faith. Sorry for the tangent, I just wanted to respond to the person who said we were afraid of "looking bad." I think people wanted the offensive comment removed because it offended them, it hurt them. Not because it made them look bad. People strong in their faith are not concerned with that.
The Pope himself covered it up. Moved Bernard Law fron Boston straight to the Vatican. So much for the good in people.
10:12 yes all people are evil, now please begin cleansing society by ridding the world of your stupidity.
thanks for the invite to go elsewhere fng. are you in a position to offer it? i never suggested anyone leave out of here but please stop the cryin, it gets old. i don't hold with insulting religion but quite a few churches have had their problems with perversions that hurt children which is the issue here. i didn't see the offending post and will accept that it had to be deleted but as for the children forever damaged by priests or elders or anyone else they should not be forgotten to save hurt feelings-
Anon 1, I don't think FNG is in anymore of a position to suggest people go elsewhere then those she said it to. And it seemed to me it was a suggstion in a response to their suggestion the objectors shut-up or leave. And FNG managed to make her statement without calling them milkteat crybabies or any other names.FNG is one of the few regulars on here, like MPP, MOM and my pal YouKnowMe, who seem to be able to make their point directly without resorting to name calling and opinion bashing.
perhaps you read a different post than I did but in the one I read fng invited those who felt there there's excessive cryin' on here to vacate the premises. only one person suggested that the whiners leave btw but fng went on to say "form your own little blog where ignorance and hate is not only tolerated but welcomed." when did anyone say anything in suppport of hate? when did anyone say they accepted the insulting post- -whatever it may have been? that wasn't the point at all my friend. the point is that fng JUDGED other posters as hate mongers not because of anything other than that they are tired of the politically correct whiners and in doing so she made the harshest insult of all at which I did take offense- evidently her offensive, inults were ok with you?
This is very disturbing. My family registered at this facility (Lipton Corporate Child Care Center) as a backup backup plan in case our nanny could not make it, and we could not take off from work. Fortunately, we have never used the facility, but I went to the point about asking about their criminal background checks and security protocols.
miserly bastard, that is crazy! So so glad your little one wasn't there with this horrible man! :(It really makes you want to hug them tight and never let them go, doesn't it? :(
Went back and read the posts. Still support FNG. Sorry Anonymous 1, we will just have to agree to disagreee on this.
unome (and yes, I'm sure I do)I read the posts to which you are referring and I find that anonymous1 was trying to point out to you that fng was bashing other posters for supporting hate, and that, to me, is worse than calling someone a crybaby. I didn't see any real evidence that these posters hate anything. Just my opinion, of course.
Deconstructing the BigotIn order to become a hateful bigot, you must first accept bigotry and hatred. In order to accept bigotry and hatred, you must first tolerate it.In order to tolerate it, you must first allow it.In order to allow it, you must turn a blind eye to it.A deaf earKeep dumb.My HS History teacher had that written on the board the first day of class our Freshman year and it stuck with me. That's all.And Sprak, you don't know me at all. Not at all.
If I were a history teacher, on my first day of class this is what I would write on the board:"My name is my name is my name is.. Slim Shady.."I bet that would stick with people. Word.
Oh, I know you. You may think otherwise, but I know you. You are a word twister, trying to prove a point you cannot with nonsense. People who are tolerant of others and their beliefs do not generally tolerate hatred or bigotry or child abuse, for that matter, even from Catholic Priests.
I would writeAll that you touchAll that you seeAll that you tasteAll you feel. All that you loveAll that you hateAll you distrustAll you save. All that you giveAll that you dealAll that you buy,Beg, borrow or steal. All you createAll you destroyAll that you doAll that you say.All that you eatAnd everyone you meetAll that you slightAnd everyone you fight. All that is nowAll that is goneAll thats to comeAnd everything under the sun is in tuneBut the sun is eclipsed by the moon.
Actually I think unome's most recent post was excellent and I just emailed it to myself.I totally got your point unome. To allow bigoted, hateful or racist remarks to go unchecked and unchallenged and call it freedom of speech is to open the door to it and allow it into your lives.
MM, Sprak is a hateful troll that poison's every thread she darkens.I guess this wasn't prograssing into the flame war she'd hoped for so she had to start this discussion on another thread as well. I'm glad to see neither FNG or UNM have taken her bait. Although this post is sure to give her some jollies while she posts her acid-laden reply. Such juvenile behavior from someone who supposedly has grandkids....God HELP those children! Why doesn't she sign off the computer & go knit something for THEM!
So I take it most of you would support the banning in school libraries of Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer and Gone With The Wind?
Cali-mom I guess you support Don Imus calling the Rutgers' Girls basketball team a bunch of nappy haired ho's?Do you support the idea of new-Nazi skin-heads passing out literature at holocaust memorials?A stupid question deserves equally stupid questions back.
12:35Um .... it was nappy headed ho's.
Cali-mom another one who can sniff out a flame war like a dog.Somewhere, two bridges are missing their trolls
(waits for Sprak the "brilliant" to reply with "and somewhere a village is missing it's idiot")
Actually, I believeiIt was nappy HEADED, not nappy haired, and I am missing whatever connection you hoped to make between that and the books I asked you about. As far as passing out literature? Yes. It absolutely falls within the category of freedom of speech and expression, people are as free to refuse the literature as the asshole nazis are to pass it out, and unfortunately, the same freedoms must be given to assholes as they are to people whose views we agree with.
Let the games begin!I love it!Count on Sprak to start a fight. I don't have to do anything anymore, Sprak, Ro and CaliMom do all the work for me!
Sprak fan at 12:17, I desire NO flame war, but I think there is a bit more to bigotry than the ditty above. Here's a nice 'shortcut' to get there. i.e., parents who are bigots and pass their hatred along to their kids. Many children are brought up to be bigots. After re-reading the post about deconstructing a bigot, I did see some good points, and in retrospect I apologize to unome. But it is just the tip of the iceberg. I really do wish it was just that simple. As I've said many times, I may be wrong but I reserve the right to be wrong. Once in awhile, I'll even admit to it. ;-)
Although come to think of it, new-Nazi skin-heads passing out literature at holocaust memorials would be a phenomenally stupid waste of their resources but it would be best for the rest of the world if most of them really WERE that stupid.
Sorry CM, you won't drag me into this debate, flame war or whatever you are looking for. If you missed the connection, too bad for you.
In other words, you failed to make your point so you are backing away. Fine by me.
Hmm, that was me at 12:50.
Oh by the way, anonymous at 12:17, did you ever notice that most of the insults, barbs, and hate-filled posts are written by anonymous posters? For instance, as I read your post, I noticed that you accused, insulted, called names and tried to stir shit. My, my, but don't you do it all, and anonymously at that! You must be very proud of what you have to say. Oh wait! I guess you aren't so proud, after all, because you choose to go the cowardly anonymous route, Ah, but then, who could blame you for not claiming your vile and hateful comments? Cheers!
I'm happy I have a moniker. Never had much of an imagination so always just posted anon on here but Cali Mom dubbed me Busy Troll on another blog topic here so that's my new Moniker. I like it!Thanks Cali Mom!
Is this better? I take ownership of my comment of 12:17. How friggin silly.
Stop yammering and find this pervert before he shows up outside of a park, playground or school near you!
Everyone on here should recognize CaliMom for her participation here and her ability to hone in on a topic. BTW, Cali Mom, I would like to say that I don't agree with removing some of the books you mentioned from our libraries. I just wonder where it will all end if they start judging each book accordingly. I've seen some pretty shocking things in the library.
Oh, I wouldn't call you silly, kaps, and I doubt that's your only post, but you shouldn't really throw rocks when you live in a glass house.
1:07, you're welcome!Sprak, from what I can tell there don't seem to be any real guidelines about what gets banned. Some parents in whatever district just get their girdles all in a wedge and harrass the school board to remove books that piss them off, apparently. There was one book that was the winner of all sorts of children's literature awards and parents demanded it be banned because it contained the word "scrotum". As in, a dog had been bitten by a snake there. That was enough to get it banned. Point being, there is such a thing as tolerance, such a thing as zero tolerance, and such a thing as hysteria.
Hey, I'm just glad those that take pride in being a troll have given themselves monikers!Hooray for you!
I live in a glass house--really!
437-I dont get it. Did I miss something?
