Good Nanny Sighting I saw your nannyGreat nanny sighting! Crosby between Spring and Broome, NYC.If you have a shortish Asian nanny who takes your daughter out in a cerulean blue backwards-facing Bugaboo, she is adored by your child. I watched the nanny feed your kid, and when she burped up some of the formula, the nanny giggled, patted the baby's stomach, and sweetly wiped away the mess, leaving your daughter with a big smile. She then started singing the itsy bitsy spider and doing the hand motions. Very cute. Parents, she's a keeper!

While this nanny sounds great, I think these things should be the norm, the expected, and not something that anyone would be particularly surprised and pleased to notice. Are our standards for childcare so low that a nanny who actually wipes a child's mouth, smiles at her and sings Itsy-Bitsy Spider is considered above average? These seem like things that *any* person caring for a young child would do. But I guess, from reading this site, it isn't the case.

I am the OP. Yes, of course it should be the norm, but does that not mean that this nanny, who was interacting very sweetly with her charge, doesn't deserve recognition. Am I wrong?

I understand. How nice it would be for the parents employing this nanny to know that she's awesome. I posted above not to denigrate your post in any way, but I was just musing in general about the fact that this nanny stands out at all, when she should just be the expected norm.

Reading this site has made me realize that some people have VERY low expectations for child care. No matter how bad a bad sighting is, someone (or a few someones) are sure to chip in saying that it is not that bad or that "moms do that do", as if the existence of bad moms makes bad nannies any less appalling.

So, my apologies if my post was too jaded and cynical! I do hope the parents of this sweet baby see the post and know that they have hired one of the good ones.

Erm, that should read, "moms do that TOO," above.
