Thursday

On Austin Street, in front of Benetton in Forest Hills, NY

Received Thursday, November 8, 2007
Forest Hills, NY Around 10:30 a.m on Thursday, Feb 8. On Austin Street, in front of Benetton. West-Indian Nanny with ponytail, black leather coat and brown and gold sunglasses. Little girl was Asian, approx. 2 years of age with short "bob" style haircut. Blue or Black stroller. They were with another nanny and child in a stroller. The little girl was sobbing, with a completely wet face - definately not a tantrum, and nanny was meanly shoving a light blue sippy cup in her face saying "HERE, YOU WANT WATER>>>DRINK!" "HERE" She was speaking and gesturing so angrily. I asked the nanny if perhaps the little girl just wanted to be picked up...the nanny just barked back "NO! she is always this way!" and huffed off. I am so sorry I didn't ask her for her name. I was just so shocked and saddened. Even my son noticed how meanly she was treating the child in her care."

This was in Febuary?

I assumed, since this is the 8th of November, that someone just put the wrong month.

Well, it seems you did what you could. Sometimes when we feel we have the courage to confront an intense situation and their response is nothing short of nasty ... it's better to back-off. I know it sucks because I'm sure most people on here (myself included), at one time or another has felt the need to thrash a Nanny for abusing/neglecting the child in their care. You probably wouldn't have gotten her name, or the childs name for that matter, in the state you report she was in.

I think I know who this is. The babysitter (nanny is too good a word) and the girl were going to Gymboreeymboree. If it's who I think it is... that poor, poor girl.

She has a horrible nanny, and worse parents. The parents have actually left her outside the Natural supermarket (on Austin Street) crying hysterically while they went inside to pay for a few fruits that were outside. The mother was yelling at her in Chinese, and when some older ladies asked the mother what's wrong, the mother smiled and said 'its ok, its ok'. This happened last month.

That poor girl. She's the sweetest thing when she's playing with other kids in Gymboree.

I typed Gymboree and it posted as Gymboreeymboree. I don't know why.

Awwww....this poor girl. I seriously wish parents had to get a license in order to have kids. I know, I know, freedom, free will, etc. prevents that. But I at least wish all parents took a parenting class or something.

Also, the parents probably purposely hired this particular nanny because she was just as detached as they are. It would be awkward for them to see their child attach to another caregiver. Another child growing up in the world with attachment issues, fabulous.

So why can't someone contact Gymboree and ask about the identity of the family and report them to child protective services??? What's the problem here? Just do it, people.

Because letting your child cry is not a crime and you need more than one witness to prove that the child was left outside the store.

You do NOT need more than one witness if a child was left outside the store. No way. That's like saying you need more than one witness to any other crime. It certainly helps, but it is in no way NECESSARY.

I used to watch a toddler who was a completey unhappy kid just by nature. You could give him food, give him toys, pick him up, play him music, ANYTHING and he just wouldn't be happy. This behaviour was also common while with his parents. He was an unhappy baby from the beginning and of course it got old after a while! There are just times when you have to show your frustration with you child or charge to let them know that their behaiour is just unacceptable and if they are going to constantly act that way, they should expect that the people around him are not going to act in a happy, patient manner. She might have been right about the child always acting like that, and unfortunately that might just be the way it is.

3:05 seems like a mean child abuser. I would NEVER act that way with my children, and I've NEVER seen any mothers I associate with act that way.

I fear for the children you watch. No doubt 3:05 is either the nanny or the parent in question.

"The Bad Seed" & "The Good son"

I do not feel the little girl mentioned in this is either of those.I think she is the recipient of a bad nanny .I hope by ow,she has a new nanny and mom & dad have gotten it together.

But for the person calling 305 "a mean child abuser",I have some sad news for you. Some children are always sullen and are never happy and yes, they come by it naturally.
I dated a guy who had a child like this.
We took him to Disneyland, never smiled once. I would read to him at night, never smiled once. We took him to the park and on daily walks but he was just a miserable child.
It was very sad. And yes, as humans and as parents it is frustrating.
