Tuesday

NYC Public Library at 67th & 1st Ave in NYC

Received Tuesday, August 21, 2007
This occurred yesterday, 8/20/07 around 4-5 PM. Nanny yelling at 2 girls - "It's none of your business what I'm reading." "We'll leave when I say it's time to leave." Barking at girls and treating them very disrespectfully. It was disturbing. Nanny (E. or W. Indian?) with dark brown shoulder length hair, straight with bangs. Girls around 7 yo, 9 yo with straight brown hair, one with green headband other with light purple headband in T-shirts and cargo pants and tennis shoes.

:O

Poor things.

I hate when kids are just expressing their curiosity and get told it isn't their business.

We don't know what else happened here. The other day my charge wanted to see what I was doing on the computer (they are older, can play on their own somewhat) and I told them to please finish playing for 2 minutes until I was done. They continued to stand behind me and look at the screen when I said "go away! this is none of your concern!" If kinds don't learn these small but signifigant lessons of privacy and invasion, they will annoy others later in life.

4:36, how hard is it to answer a simple question? You want privacy? Give a "loosely" based answer containing little detail, but don't try and say that your charges are invading your privacy when they are asking you questions "on the job". It is normal for children to be curious, and intelligent children (and adults for that matter) ask questions as that is how they learn! It sounds to me like you are teaching ignorance, rather than "privacy".

My charge asked me yesterday what I was doing as well (he is 9 yrs. old) and was swinging right next to me at the playground (which was empty, so I was using the swing next to him as a seat so I could be near to him.) I simply said "studying, while you swing. Why, do you want to do something else?" He replied " We can play ball next. Like for a test? Like what? I have a math test tomorrow." When I replied that I had a test the next day as well, we were able to bond, and I got a darling response: "I hate tests Meg, maybe we should study together! I can help you!" That REALLY made me smile! I'm glad I was able to bond with him in yet another way, and I hope that when I have children some day they are intelligent enough to ask questions as well.

4:36, maybe what your charge really should have said to you is "quit being lazy and play with me" just a thought...

i agree with what anonymous said. if you weren't there the whole time, and don't know the whole story, then keep your two sense out of it. it probably is none of your business anyway, and kids need to be tought a lesson. she was just being firm. and nannys are allowed to do that

Ok when little kids are acting crazy and being anoying and rude u are so anoyed that u don't think beacuse of how the kids are acting. The first time they ask you, you should be nice but when they keep asking you ('cause kids are curious like that) it starts to get anoying, then you can tell them with some anger so they know you are serious.
