Saturday

Outside Camp Tocaloma in Santa Monica, CA.

Received Saturday, July 28, 2007
I saw your nanny at about 3:15 on Fri 7/27 making a left turn out of Camp Tocaloma. She's a short Hispanic woman in a ponytail driving a White Toyota corolla whose license plate begins with 5GQA. This is the second time this summer that I've seen her driving dangerously. Today she pulled out of the summer camp (ignoring the stop sign) onto a very busy Mulholland Drive while a line of us (who have no stop sign) were turning left. She pulled out in front of us to make her left turn first. I almost slammed into the side of the car. Now I know accidents happen but this woman didn't so much as turn her head.My kids go to Tocaloma too and at $90 a day I'd like to suggest that you invest the money into a much sturdier car for your children to be toted around town in. Certainly none of us are hurting.

Forget about the new car ... How about a NEW Nanny??

10:18 - I was thinking the same thing...a new nanny or at the very least driving lessons for the one they have!

Yes, ignore environmental issues and get a huge gas guzzler, but keep the cheap nanny.

hilarious post!

How did you know it was a nanny?

Stef said...

If you are going to ask,
"how do you know it was the nanny",
please do us the favor and choose the moniker, "asshole" for yourself.

Your redundancy is nauseating.

Anonymous said...

I prefer asshat or asswipe, so much more genteel...

Wow Stef, the little things in life really get to you, don't they? If the OP doesn't state how she knew it was a nanny, then someone is going to ask. Take a deep breath okay? I hope you don't treat your kids with that kind of hostility. Scary.

Stef said...

It is not the OP's job to state how she knew it was the nanny. It is the OP's job to describe the nanny. I have read posts where the OP has said, "this may have been a mom" or "this could have been an aunt". The idiot who asks, "how do you know it was a nanny" is the same douchebag who shows up in every comment section asking the same question!

And by the by, most great nannies go unnoticed because their rapport with the children and the way they speak to, hold and respond to the child is so maternal that they get mistaken for the mother. That is the way in which errors flow.

Just so you know.

These idiots who drive around in luxurys SUVS but buy pieces of crap for the nanny to drive around their precious children around drive me absolutely batty! Narcissists make such horrid parents.

The Toyota Carolla is a good car but it doesn't matter what the nanny is driving if she's a horrible driver. I hope she get s pulled over by the police for reckless driving and endangeriing the kids!

Anonymous said...

are you familiar with that area? The toyota corolla is the common car of the day laborer in that area of CA, not the car one schleps or has one's children schlepped around in.

Anonymous said...

Toyota Corollas are nice enough cars. It's the nanny who sucks.

You don't need a suv to tote kids.

Anonymous said...

Toyota Corollas are nice? Get real. Toyota Corollas are made for peasants, and not only that,
they are foreign. Buy American.

Anonymous said...

OP sounds stuck up. Is this post about the nanny's driving skills or her car?

Anonymous said...

wait a minute okay Toyotas are foreign, but most of the nice SUVs are foreign as well. What about the Lexus, Saabs, Audis, BMWs??????

Well said 3:21, unfortunately it seems the vast majority of "mothers" (and I use this term loosely) on this site are rich, ignorant, racist bigots who have nothing better to do with their time than to spy on other people. Hey ladies, how about taking a course at your local College on Multiculturalism? Sociology, Anthropology any one? DIdn't think so...

P.S: To the foreign car commenter, you are egocentric and ethnocentric...that's right pull out your damn dictionary twat...unlike you I did take those courses.

I would rather my child be in a Toyota than a Nazi sled.

I loathe insecure people who glop on to status symbols. Not understanding the undercurrent of destruction that said status symbols represent.

Anonymous said...

5:45 You are correct, I didn't take those courses during my college curriculum, even so I have no need of looking up any of your plebeian terminology. I guess, once a peasant...............??????

Anonymous said...

5:45...is that where you learned the word "twat?"

Anonymous said...

7:56:

Thank you.

Anonymous said...

5:45- all the richy rich moms are confused out there.. because they thought Anthropology was a store!

Nazi sled?! I must remember that one!

It is truly appalling how all of you use a site that should have good intentions for such childish banter. The goal of this site (I think)is to protect children, and/or compliment a caregiver for a job well done. Instead, this is a site for SAHMs, caregivers and Working Moms to insult one another. I also can't figure out why a SAHM finds it necessary to be on this site, unless it's just to give their two cents.

I usually look at the blog to see if there is a resolution to the posting. I will not bother with this any longer. I can only hope that your banter does not discourage other working moms that rely on their caregivers from using this site.

There are trolls everywhere.
Even on Babycenter. I ignore the idiocy and seek the substance.

Anonymous said...

Well Stef, since this person did not say "maybe it could have been a mom" and they didn't see any interaction with the woman and the children, then your point is useless. I would still like to know how they figured this was the nanny. I have never asked "how do you know this is the nanny?" when they have made the statements about not being sure or if there was a lack of engagement between the nanny and children. You sound like you have a lot to learn.

The important part of this blog are the reports of children getting less than stellar childcare, to put it nicely. The comments after the fact may call for additional clarification or offer up an opinion about the incident, which may result in more information or getting a different prospective on the situation. The off topic banter doesn't diminish the validity or imporatance of the original post. Actually, sometimes it gives me a laugh.

Anonymous said...

5:05 - You are spot on!

11:18 - Why wouldn't SAHMs be welcome here? For your information, I've been trolling this wonderful site for a very long time. I even posted a bad Nanny sighting once that recieved alot of popular (and positive) response.
Don't count us out!

I would report the lisc# to the camp and say I was concerned for the children.

I love Toyota Corollas. They are a wonderful vehicle that got great safety ratings. A new nanny is a better solution. We're too wasteful in this country already w/o having the most wasteful of all of us (the rich) buying new vehicles because their nanny is a crappy driver and WILL get in an accident. GET A NEW NANNY! Cheaper and better for the environment.

Anonymous said...

My child would never ride around in a Toyota Corolla! I like the protection of a big ass SUV. So sue me. My nanny drives A brand new Mercury Mariner SUV hybrid. Check it out. Best option for safety and the environment and cost.

pbr said...

Did I make a mistake, then, by providing my nanny a Cadillac Escalade? She seems quite thrilled with it and the gas milage is so much better than expected. Maybe next year.

Anonymous said...

Why are we discussing piece of shit cars, and not the piece of shit nanny?

Anonymous said...

There is a connection here... the car, the nanny... The nanny was given an inferior crap car to drive and adding to that, her lack of driving skills made it a dangerous situation two fold.

Anonymous said...

The connection is the parents dont give a rat's ass about their child's vehicle safety. They don't care how she drives or what kind of dated death trap they stuff their kids in to.

Anonymous said...

The protection of the SUV... minus the rollover.

Anonymous said...

buy American

Anonymous said...

I do wonder what the parent's are driving, whilst their wee little ones ride about in a death trap

I'm sorry ladies, I'll respond to all of you who have more questions about the post and for those of you who think I'm a total bitch... I guess you can join some sort of club during lunchtime because I have no patience for you or it.

Tocaloma for two kids and one summer costs a bit more than a brand new Toyota and several times more than the dinky piece of crap she was driving.

An empty lot in my neighborhood (much cheaper than tocaloma's) is about $900 K.

So it's not tongue in cheeck when I suggest providing the nanny with a better car.

having raised my children in los angeles I do recognize that the worst nannies are better than many of these mothers and these dreadful women had the good sense to go back to work where they couldn't ruin their children's lives too much.

Anyhow, Mulholland drive is both busy and deadly and if a hole in the ozone would save my children's lives I'd do it in a heartbeat.

I see many of y'all like to cuss.. a lot.

I gotta tell ya, you're my kind of women.

Tocaloma Mommy said...

Oh yeah....

" Anonymous said...

OP sounds stuck up. Is this post about the nanny's driving skills or her car?

2:22 PM "

Both.

They cheaped out on the nanny, the car is a death trap and the camp is $90 a day - per child.

I'm stuck up.

If you drive a Dodge Neon my kids and I will follow you whereever you go but I won't be putting my kids in it.

If that's stuck up that's okay by me.

*returns to twirling her hair*

Tocaloma Mommy said...

Oops, I meant to say....

"returns to twirling her fabulously thick and perfectly highlighted hair*

Because I'm sure that all of you who think that rich women are stupid also understand that we're both beautiful and narcissistic to boot.

Anonymous said...

I'm in NY and pay $90 for a half day camp for my three year old, so I don't know what you're going on and on about.

Anonymous said...

i dont care what car she drives...she sucks as a driver..report her to camp and police...easy finish and out she goes

Anonymous said...

You don't always get what you pay for. 15-20 years ago my parents paid a fortune for my sister and I to go to daycamp during the summer and although the camp did a fabulous job of making it seem like fun and education for us kids, in reality we played dodgeball all day and watched the couselors flirt, eat ice cream in front of us, talk on the phone, ignore us, and yell at us out of their own personal spite. These couselors are often just young people with no real care for children.

Anonymous said...

No, you don't always get what you paid for, but I would think one would want to pay attention to what they are actually getting for their money rather than turn a blind eye and hope for the best.

Cali mom said...

Yikes on the racist ignoreant twat who claims to have some sort of education (I guess that's where she learned to spell p-e-a-s-a-n-t) but is more concerned with how stylish of a car her children are seen in than how well a nanny cares for children in general. Good thing most people's educations prepare them more effectively than that for raising children to know right from wrong, ignorance from intelligence, hate from understanding and greed from empathy. Wonder if she's Paris's dumber twin?

Cali mom said...

Sorry for typo. Ignoreant s/b ignorant. But we all knew that. Even the racist twat.

Anonymous said...

the racist twat?
please...
she made a very valid point. I saw no racism in her post.

Anonymous said...

why does there always have to be at least one troll who starts throwing around foul language and calling people names because they're making assumptions about people they don't even know? Why can't you just speak your mind in a respectful way as everyone else does? It sounds more intelligent, to say the least. You think you're SO smart, that you know better than everyone else, so why are you wasting your time here?

Anonymous said...

I happened upon this website bc I was googling the camp for my son to perhaps to go. I am actually surprised and disgusted by the banal insults being flung. The judging taking place is so passe. Until you have walked in another man, nanny, or mother's shoes, I suggest tolerance if not compassion. Perhaps it is a single, working mother who has saved all year for the opportunity this camp could offer her child. Perhaps she could really benefit from knowing how her nanny behaves or at least drives when she is not around. But perhaps now all she feels is shame and embarrassment at the joke her situation has become. Whatever helps you women sleep at night.
