..woman claiming to be a representative for the Gap?

Received Thursday, June 28, 2007
Has anyone been approached by a woman claiming to be a representative for the Gap looking for new child models/child talent? My nanny was approached today while leaving Ancient Park. Because nanny said no, she did not take any paperwork away from this conversation.

The Gap doesn't scout their own models; that's what agencies are for. But even then, 90% of the time agencies let the models come to them rather than do legwork.

It might be real. There was an email circulated in my office from a publicist at the Gap, and they're apparently casting a holiday campaign to shoot in mid-July.

Could it be that your child is just really cute? Some people do get discovered on the street: stranger things have happened...

Go back to the same exact Gap with your child and ASK. That way you have no questions, and if it is true you won't miss an opportunity!

When my cousin was a toddler, his mom got approached by Sears (leaving the store) and he DID do an ad for them! He has since done a few TV commercials, and ads for other companies such as Old Navy. It never hurts to find out! Go back. (=

Worse case scenario, you will find out it's some perve liar and then you can report it and warn other parents and caregivers before someone gets hurt!!

Good luck, hope it's real! (=

I would have asked for some paperwork or at the least a card and then told her I would like to check them out first. If she was legit, she would be aware of the creeps out there and have no problem with it. Also, you could call the Gap's corporate office and ask if they are recruiting child models this way.

My former employer (i was her nanny) got scouted walking down the street in Chicago. She did many major modeling events after that...so it does happen.

Hi, 617 here!
Ohhh, I didn't catch the "anticent park" part...sorry not from NY. I'd say to call the cooperate office and find out! It's true that some people do get scouted on the street, but you can never be sure in this day and age! If your kid really stands out it can happen (my cousin is like that...it's crazy) but you still have to check very carefully! (As of this day he's done tons of work, but we have caught one sicko--so please me careful!)

Best of luck!

It could be real, but you never know this day in age! Wish she would have got at least a card to follow up on. I work at an agency, and we scout the streets whenever one of our boards are needing a particular look or simply some new faces to add to the mix. It's also pretty common to get scouted by the companies themselves...less hoops to jump through.
