So if the nanny is sleeping, can't you just throw a heavy book at her head? She has to go home then with a huge gash on her head. The parents will say, "what happened to your head" and nanny will say, "i dont know i was sleeping ...and..."

Original poster here: We just got back from dinner and ran into the nanny with her 2 charges again. I can add this: she wears a black puffy coat and the stroller is a MacLaren with yellow and black accents. Also, what I meant to say in the post was that the boy has behavorial issues -- he was grabbing books from young kids and the nanny did nothing. He acts this way at the playground too, taking toys, etc., and it is just a shame that he is not getting the attention he so very dearly needs.

That nanny should have been awakened and chastised. Where do all these dead-a** nannies come from? Do they hatch from some horrific child-hating monster?

Please, everyone, if you see a nanny sleeping, leaving her charges in danger, WAKE HER UP!

And what is going on in Park Slope, that there are so many bad sightings there?

I think I would have had to of either thrown something at her or told the older child to go jump on her. I can't believe she is sleeping in public and not watching the kids - at least their house is probably child-proofed and the kids would be a little safer if she slept there (I am not saying it is ok for her to sleep on the job).

The Parents Hire Alot Of Bad Nanny In the area of park slope. Most of The Nanny Hang Out in the library On Eastern Parkway. The kids run around in the library while the nannies do nothing what so ever.

And the odd thing is that the average salary of a nanny in Park Slope is much higher than elsewhere. At least if you read their local parenting board, they claim to pay more. Just goes to show that $$$ doesn't translate into good care.

Do you ever notice a little girl of about 3 years old who is always in that park (JJ Byrne) with her nanny? The girl is really super cute -- linen blonde hair (shoulder length with bangs), has recently been wearing little pink tennis shoes with cherries on them and she usually holds a long, tattered stuffed bunny? Well, her nanny sucks too. I see that girl playing all alone all the time while her nanny sits and ignores her on a bench. The nanny is usually chatting with 2 other useless nannies while the little girls just stands around by the equipment looking sad.

Tsk, tsk. This nanny is B.A.D. I have an idea. Write a note to the parents of the children and explain what you have been witnessing. If you see the nanny sleeping again, tell the little boy to put the note in his pocket for his parents, and to keep it secret from the nanny, ONLY give it to his mommy or daddy. If by chance the nanny should find it, she'll know she is being watched and will probable be a little bit more carefull. Or, go up to the nanny and give her a fist in the face. That would get her attention...ok, just kidding. :)

Jamie,
I think slugging the nanny is almost a better option than for a stranger to approach the child, slip said child a note (object) and ask the child to keep a secret.

Please do take a picture of the nanny so there can be no doubt. If she's sleeping, perhaps you can capture some sleep drool dribbling, for emphasis. lol I wouldn't post pictures of the children though, for privacy and safety reasons.
She sounds like a repeat offender. Sooner or later one of her charges or another child is going to be hurt. And the little girl will simply atrophy away since she never gets any exercise, apparently.
Good luck.

thank goodness for those who are willing to look out for those who cannot look out for themselves

Original poster here: I wanted to wake her up and we did play noisily around her -- I thin that's what pissed her off. I was pretty animated reading a book to my kid! Honestly she is so unapproachable and rude - stared at my daughter hard when my girl just wanted to say hi to the girl in her stroller. I will be more vigilant the next time I see them, bec. I know I will see them soon!

I want to point out that I think it's unfair to judge Park Slope by the number of postings from that area on this site. It's a neighborhood where a great deal of families, so more families = more nannies = more bad nanny sightings.

Also, I would bet that Jane Doe is a Brooklynite herself, or someone with strong ties to Brooklyn. Look at the Blogroll on this site and you'll find links to several Brooklyn-based or Brooklyn-centric sites. If you've got more readers in a certain area it's quite likely you'll get more sightings from that area as well.

I don't work or live in Park Slope, but I do enjoy the neighborhood while I'm there and I think we shouldn't judge it too harshly. There are good and bad nannies everywhere.

Relax, Annie. No one is saying that Park Slope is a bad nanny mecca. It just seems reasonable to say that there are indeed a ton of bad nanny sightings in that area because there are also a ton of kids living there.

I live in the Slope myself. I like to think that we care enough to report the sightings, and that's why we read so many of them.

annie - i have seen some terrific nannies here in PS but lately i've seen more bad than good. it makes me wonder if the parents know what is going on. and 10:49, i bet you do know this nanny bec. she does hang out with 1 or 2 other nannies who also ignore their charges. i find it ridiculous but part of me wonders why the parents have no clue. when the kids can start talking maybe they will figure it out.

Maybe it's the "one nanny tells another" thingy that's pulling in the bad ones to the Park Slope area? It's said that birds of a feather flock together.

So no one knows the gorgeous Park Slope little linen blond girl with the bangs and pink cherry sneakers?

What a shame that she's with such a monster of a nanny who pays her no mind.

She is at JJ Byrne *a lot.*

I hope Rip Van Nanny is outed, as she should be

I had to stop going to that park because the nannies depressed me so much. I have seen the little girl with the bangs and the cherry sneakers (and her lousy nanny) but I don't know who her parents are.

why do you ppl have so much time to rag on others? How would you feel if someone crtiqued your job or parenting skills... Don't get me wrong the lady shouldn't have been sleeping but cmon now, get off your high horse.

this is the original poster. i am wondering why this has been taken down for one. and 2:37, it is not just a matter of the nanny sleeping on her job repeatedly, it is the fact that she ignores her charges and acts rude and mean if any children try to play with the kids she is supposedly watching. everyone around here knows who the nanny is, they know the kids and they know the parents. someone had to say something.

OP:

I think it's safe to assume that you did an excellent job and that the parents have been alerted.

If I were them I would have done the same, as there were too many identifying details which probably embarassed them. Hopefully you'll get some sort of verbal high five from them though, because you deserve it. I hope they sent the sleeping wonder packing.

What happened to this post?

Anonymous said...

I'm the father. I asked for the post to be removed. Please leave my family and our nanny alone.

Anonymous said...

OP here: I can only hope the parents didn't get too freaked out. I really feel for them and wish them the best in finding a new nanny that loves and cares for their adorable children. Their kids deserve it!

6:37 am-

Are you really the father of these kids? I am a little concerned about your comment "please leave my family and our nanny alone". Did you not read all the comments about your nanny? I hope you are not thinking that all of these people are lieing! Are you not taking these comments to heart??
