Lawrence & Avenue area in Toronto, Canada

Received Saturday, April 14, 2007
Have spotted this nanny numerous times around the Lawrence and Avenue area. She is dark skinned, usually wears a hat. I see her frequently when she is picking up the child she cares for who is a boy between the ages of 7-9yrs, straight brown hair slightly past the ears. The nanny walks in front of the child while she has music blaring through her ipod! I have never seen her try and make conversation with this young boy when they are walking, she is always preoccupied with listening to her music! What if someone happened to sneak up behind them and take the child? She would be none the wiser till they reached their destination and found the child missing. If you are the parent of this child, I would highly recommend you having a talk with your nanny, hopefully she can leave her ipod at home and focus more on your child!

she needs to leave the ipod at home her job is to care for this child it would be one thing if they were both listening to the ipod 'sharing the headphones' but by simply ignoring him-i wonder if he has said anything to his parents?

OP...could you be more specific?.... You've made an excellent point in the fact that anyone could read this situation and possibly grab the child. How sad for him to have to walk alone. I hope the parents see this.

Perhaps you could strike up a conversation with this boy and see if she notices? Maybe she'll turn around and see it, and then point out to her that she should be watching him. It's worth a try, don't you think? And hopefully the parents or someone who knows them sees this!

O Canada! You've probably put a few nannies on alert with your posting. Let's hope so!

Interesting, but I have seen many nannies at Yonge and Lawrence doing the same thing! I don't know if they actually have the music on?? But I do notice the headphones in their ear, regardless of whether it is on or not they should be engaging in conversations with our children, I can't imagine my nanny doing this while picking up my son.

Well, toronto mama, I hope your nanny knows better. I also wonder if other moms whose nannies are the ones wearing headphones would say the same thing?
