Foothills Music Together in Tucson, Arizona

Received Friday, March 16, 2007
On Tuesday March 13th I saw a nanny with two children. An infant, Campell and a young boy, Caleb, he was maybe 2 or 3. She said the baby was four months. It was at the foothills music together. I saw her pick the sweet baby girl up by her forearms several times. Every time I saw her do this I just cringed. Also for part of the class the baby was left in her car seat off to the corner of the room. Baby was awake too. Hope Mommy or Daddy sees this.

Sounds like she just needs a refresher course on lifting the infant. I didn't see it, and I'm sure it was a bit uncomfortable looking for you, I suppose you could have walked over and offered some of your professional infant picking up advice. I'm sure that the parents are around and have seen her pick the baby up, and will say something to her if it's wrong.

I go to Music Together every week, and many many mothers leave their infants in their carseats over to the side of the room(even if they're awake, just not screaming). I don't see that as a big deal. With a 2 or 3 year old you really need to engage them in the class(I go with my 16 mo charge).

wow that was the fastest response I have ever seen. Especially from someone who goes to the same class.

There are music together classes in every city in this country. What is it with the conspiricy theorists on this site?

Anonymous said...

the conspiracy theorists! yep!]
u know if it had been a good sighting they would be out in force saying it was the nanny talking about herself!

maybe her hands are paralyzed.

Gosh-I got the impression that the first responder was talking about the music together class she goes to-not the same one as the OP. those Music Together classes are all across the country! Chill out people!

whatever....lame.

The problem I see is the method of lifting the baby. If a baby in a comfortable car seat is quiet and not crying for attention and is being monitored and not in any danger of being kidnapped, I don't think it presents a problem.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with leaving a 4 month old in a carseat, to watch the big kids playing and singing during a music class. DUH. I mean the baby isn't left alone, the baby is probably enjoying watching and listening to what's going on around her, so what's the problem? As far as the lifting - why didn't you just kindly say something? "I have a friend who accidentally dislocated her baby's arm while lifting her like that. I'm sorry! I just had to say something" in a nice, friendly way. Just say something next time. Especially easy to do if the nanny is young and childless. They KNOW that you know more about these things than they do.

what kind of ass backwards nymphomaniac hires a nanny who can't even pick up a baby? That is basic knowledge. If she can't do that, what is she good at? I'm guessing she doesn't know infant cpr.

nymphomaniac?

Anonymous said...

yeah, nympho? Did I miss something?

Obviosly, you missed alot during English and vocab class. Do you even know what a nymphomaniac means? I think not. Advice: Get a dictionary and a clue.

I was speaking from experience, reminded of my sister-in-law who after filing for divorce from my brother hired some absolute moron to take care of the three children (the youngest was 8 months). And why? so she could go out and whore around town.

and just how would we know that? That is the missing piece of the puzzle and not whether anyone knows the definition of nymphomaniac.

My two cents:

And everyone loves me! *LOL*

Picking up a child by the arms is unappropriate, and should never be done at anytime! The infant's bones are fragile and can easily break

Perhaps the infant was sleeping, which is why she was left in the carseat. Leaving an infant in a carseat when they aren't crying or hungry is acceptable

Even more probable than breakage is the dislocation of a child's shoulder or tearing of the tendons of the biceps or rotator cuff muscles. Always pick up a little child around the ribcage rather than stressing the shoulders.
This aspect of the post bothered me more than leaving a peaceful infant in her carrier for a bit.
