McDonalds in Savage, MN

Received Wednesday, November 15, 2006
Went to McDonalds in Savage, Mn yesterday. Met a lady there. Seemed nice enough. Shouder length, blonde hair. Not noticeably pregnant. She told me 13 weeks. Glasses. In her late 20's to early 30's .Found out she's a nanny. Had 2 1/2 year old boy (not hers, and 2 year old girl (Hers) Her daughter was being worse than the other child. When they were both doing the same naughty thing, the other child got yelled at. Not her daughter She kept threatening to leave the playland if the boy didn't stop whatever he was doing. He was doing fine. It seemed he was just tired and wanted to be held. She kept telling him to play and stop hanging on her. She said they had been to Chuck E. Cheese's that morning. Said she was on 2nd marriage. Hate to see how mean she is in private.

She sounds mean! Plus, I can't believe anyone in SAVAGE (not an affluent or nice part of Minneapolis) employs a nanny. I would bet it's a crappy babysitter.

Chuck E. Cheese AND McDonalds in one day? YIIKES!

Anonymous said...

I don't think people in MN have REAL nannies!

Anonymous said...

^^ I guess that means there's no kids in MN, right? or employed parents? sheesh...

Trust me, no one in Savage, MN has a nanny. There are nannies in the affluent suburbs, but Savage is not that. That McDonalds is across the street from a trailer court.

There are people in the area with money. Just because they were at the Savage McDonald's doesn't mean they even live in Savage. There's certainly money in Eagan, Burnsville, Lakeville, Farmington, etc. - all nearby suburbs. There are even families in Savage - I'm thinking in the Yosemite Avenue area. It's a little ridiculous to say that "no one in Savage, MN has a nanny."

Okay, for every 50 nannies that you will find in the Lakes area or western suburbs, you might find 1 down there. The median income for a family in Savage is under 75,000. It would be doubtful that a family living within those means could afford a professional nanny.

Perhaps they were driving through. More than likely she was a punky BABYSITTER making 7 bucks an hour to watch someone's child. They are probably getting what they are paying for which is not a real nanny.

Sad that you don't even know the situation and you're going to judge it. Many posted maybe she was just baby sitting...maybe she was... for the day?!?! How do you know! From the 10-15 mins you sat and talked to her, that's the info you received and that's how you're going to judge her life and job. Maybe she was having a horrible day, and jut needed to get out. Re evaluate your life, what if everyone was watching your every move and posting it on the internet...that's sad! I bet when you were talking to this nanny/babysitter you didn't mention that you were going to post all this info on the web did you?!? Get a life!

I am a REAL Professional Nanny in MN.

Wow! This is sad that someone would actually judge another person by spending a few minutes talking to them. Do you ever have a bad day at work? Have you ever taken care of 2 young children while being pregnant? She was probably having a bad day and needed to get out of the house. Maybe she was more strict with the other child but maybe she was just following the parents' parenting style. You can't judge a nanny by one short encounter. Being a REAL professional nanny in MN myself, I hope you all take a moment to look at yourselves. How would you feel if you were having a bad day at work and someone went to tell your boss how "horrible" you were?

I bet all those professional nannies don't work south of the river!

Wow! I am floored. This is my first time across this site. I have been a Professional Nanny for over 11 years. And guess where? MN! FIVE of those years were in the Twin Cities area; Chanhassen, Minnetonka, Excelsior. And in many other areas, I was a MATURE PROFESSIONAL BABYSITTER including in Burnsville and Eden Prairie!I am now a mother of two, an infant and a preschooler. I can assure you there are families "south if the river" that will do what they can to find a great trusting caregiver for their children and find a way to pay them at a fair price. I would be happy to have them contact you to let you know that.
First of all, the original e-mail says the girl told her she is a nanny. Second of all, she was just posting that she saw something that is disturbing to her and went with her gut instinct that it didn't seem right. Third, Chuck E Cheese is in Burnsville or Edina, not Savage, so she could be employed in those areas. But I have to agree, 2 restaurant visits in one day is a little much, especially for toddlers. You are asking for bad behavior when you put them through that much stimulation! Be a bit more understanding. If you aren't a nanny, or don't employ one, you should probably find a different place to vent your frustrations.

You never worked as a nanny down in Savage, which was the original post; most families there could nto afford to employ a nanny. Of course there are exceptions. There's Chuck E Cheese's all over. In any case, she stinks. But the parents are probably getting what they pay for.

Theres a Chuck E Cheese in Maple Grove. Maybe she's from St. Cloud. Who CARES?!!!

I an't believe what complete self righteous snobs you Minnesotans can be. Have you thought for a second that you are pretty much implying that everyone from Savage is white trash? Shame on all of you!

I'm from Savage and I take pride on it. It is a safe area, family oriented. Many families that "can" afford to pay a "profesional" nanny do it because the mothers "can't" afford to stay home since both parents "have to" go to work in order to support their life style. I don't consider that being afluent. I call that "keeping up with Jone's". If you are a Profesional Nanny then I'm sure you must likely live in an area like Savage.

Wow, this is classism at it's best...or should I say worst? I cannot believe the comments following the details of this account. What is the relevance of where the McDonald's is located and whether or not this is a "professional nanny" or a "babysitter"? Isn't the purpose of this site to help one-another ensure the best possible care for the children in our lives? As a mother I know that the choices I make regarding who cares for my child are driven by her well being not by the title of who will be watching her or economics. On a side note, I am teacher at a local private highschool, who happens to live in the Savage area, and coincidently hires a "professional nanny" to care for my daughter. We do not make a great deal of money but we are able to afford what our family needs and what is best for our family despite our zip code. Maybe the money we save on property taxes and not living in the "trendy" part of the Twin Cities really has made a difference in the long run!

I can't believe how rude and judgmental people are. I live in Savage and have for 6+ years. I do not employ a professional nanny; however, we could afford it if that is the care we were to choose for our children. Instead I choose to have my mother watch my children.

Please do not judge people by what city they live in. If you are going to be that materialistic, I would like to have you drive around the newer parts of Savage and take a look at the houses/cars/etc. You will find that they are just as nice as the houses/cars/etc in those "affluent" suburbs that you mentioned.

This is awesome. I love the sputtering of opinions, disguised as facts. For the statitician in you, here is some factual humor. Feel free to visit city-data.com & muninetguide.com to verify the results. For the person who left the "South of The River" comment....you will like this.
Look at 1)Edina, 2)Lakeville, and 3)Savage. 2000 population was 1)47,425, 2)43,128, & 3)21,115. 2006 population is estimated at 1)45,567, 2)51,484, and 3)26,581. It seems funny that Edina's 3.9% decrease correlates to the recent rise in bankruptcies and foreclosures in the last 3 years. Looks like those people whose main goal was only to have a house in the Edina zip code should have set their goals higher. Meanwhile, Lakeville grew 19.4% & Savage grew 25.90%.
It would be silly to dismiss the next argument that would come from high society "So what if Edina's population decreased 3.9%, Edina makes up for it in income"..... So why not....lets have a look.....
2000 median household income for 1) Edina was $66,019.00, 2)Lakeville was $72,404.00, and 3)Savage was $75,097, and the 2006 estimated median household income is 1)Edina $79,259.00, 2) Lakeville $86,949.00, and 3)Savage $90,180.00.
For your information, a family with 2 young children @ New Horizons spend almost the same in tuition each week, as the cost of a nanny hired through an agency. Unfortunately, the kids at New Horizons have better structure than most of the nannies we have hired, and our family friends have tried.
Going back to the nanny @ McD's, I agree, it seems a bit too much stimulation for 1/2 of a day. There could be a bias attitude towards the nanny's own daughter, maybe she was a legitimate nanny, maybe she wasn't. My best guess is they were at the Chuck E. Cheese in Edina, and wanted to get away from the white trash of a decreasing population, and a city that only has a median income of $79,259, and do lunch at McD's in Savage, and pretend to be from a growing city which has a median income of $90K+....but that is just my guess. I am from neither city. I am from the city which was ranked #4 in the book "Best Places to Raise Your Family" which reviewed and researched over 32,000 communities. Our children are 9 & 7, and we are 33 & 31. We have used nannies, and we have utilized Daycare Centers, and community programs. We are approaching 10 years of childcare, and still have not found a solution we can depend on, and fully trust. We do not think our kids are larger than life, nor do we teach them that they are. We do give them too much, only to avoid the shortcomings we experienced as children ourselves. Probably not the best way to raise children, but we spend almost every free hour together, and constantly have to turn down our parents offering to give us a free night to go out on our own, while they watch the kids, because we do not want to spend that much time without them. We are active, and use our home as a meeting place, and somewhere to sleep. If you are a nanny/housekeeper who can share the same views, and opinions above, or know of one, we would welcome a meeting and discussing possibilities. If your attitude is anger towards the words written above, save your energy, because deep down, you know you are not truly able to make it.

This post and all of these comments make me very happy that I don't live in Minnesota anymore. Some things never change. Three words: Holier. Than. Thou.

Savage reminds me of a child I used to watch...his name was William and he was as white trash as they come. One day I asked him..."William, would you like to eat some fruit with your lunch?" His response was yes, but then he took the fruit, put it in his pants and screamed this is where I put poop. I can only imagine that the residents of Savage deal with such depravity on a weekly or monthly basis.

People sure have rotten things to say. Obviously they have a reason for that. They might feel inferior or have absolutely no self esteem nor respect for others. Every city in this country has its good and bad parts just like Minneapolis. If you want to see white trash look in the trailer parks and in the city. There aren't poor people in the suburbs. They can't afford it. I moved to Savage with my husband one year ago. We live near the Prior Lake border and this is a beautiful growing area and I am proud. Maybe people should come and check it out before they are so quick to make such comments.

I personally find this blog hilarious. My wife and I moved from Eagan to St. Cloud to get away from "societal trash" and bigots who look down upon them. Thanks for making me laugh today.

Anonymous said...

Who says there are'nt bigots in St. Cloud or "societal trash" as you call it? What makes St. Cloud any better then Eagan?

Obviously those of you who post to this site only visit those parts of Savage that can not afford a nanny. There are several neighborhoods with homes worth well over 500k and the people can and do afford nannies. I live in one and sell real estate in the area. I moved from a more affluent neighborhood in Eden Prairie and the current neighborhood I live in is just as nice. They don't sit next to the McDonalds.

whoever said that "I dont think people in mn have REAL nannies" needs to realize that ITS NOT ALL FARMS HERE.

I'm a nanny in MN and trust me, its a real job. I have REAL nanny responsiblities.

Anonymous said...

She probably had a bad day. And I laugh at those that are telling people to get a life, obviously, they have one. Also, she shouldn't have been yelling at just the boy, but also her daughter too, being that you said both were misbehaving.

Anonymous said...

This is just silly. First, the point. I don't care what kind of day she's having, the child is the client, suck it up and do your job properly. Can't cut it, go home.
Second, wow, how many ignorant people live here in MN? Thank you to the person who posted the actual facts. I work in the "lakes" area, and because I prefer the Superior Living environment provided by the wonderful family I live near in Savage. Yes it's a newer neighborhood and many of the homes are worth north of a million each, but, the families living a very short distance away in a 300k home are just as amazing and are equally valued neighbors. So until Edina or the lakes area actually post higher on any national ranking for quality of life, I will stick to the wonderful Savage area. And yes, I believe my Nanny is the equal of any nutritionist turned kindergarten teacher, turned Nanny out there.

What you people need to realize is that there will always be someone with more money down the street, and if you look around, you have it better than others. You will always be somewhere between the two, so point your nose somewhere else and keep you comments directed at the little you actually know. Thanks
