From $20/hr to $4?
Hi I need some help. I'm a nanny 14 yrs exp Ba in early childhood education minor in special Ed Aba CdA and INA certified along with cpr/first aid certified and 3 yrs teaching experience. Currently residing in nj right outside Manhattan. I'm making about 20/hour. I'm going to be moving to colonial heights va soon (tiny town in middle of nowhere 20 miles away from Richmond) I can't seem to find the going rate and jobs on sittercity are offering $4/ hour (no way is that legal) anyone know any real going rates or can point me to a real direction of finding family's once I move?

Yes $4 is illegal. Federal minimum wage is 7.25 (I think); and state minimum wage varies (CA is $9)
hi im the one moving to VA =D the rate ive seen everywhere I look is 4-9/hour the most Ive seen is 12 X_x im not looking forward to taking a 10 dollar price cut
I actually live in colonial heights va and was a nanny for ten years until I recently switched to another field. Yes it's true you are not gonna get paid anywhere close to as you are in Manhattan, but the cost of living is I'm sure way less here then there. My advice for you would be to look in Richmond for nanny jobs as your not likely to find quality ones in colonial heights or the counties night around it. It's only maybe a 25 minute drive to Richmond so will be worth better and higher paying jobs. Look up river city sitters and sign up with them if you want as they tend to find quality families looking to pay decent for nannies. Around here 10 to 12 an hour is pretty average for a nanny job with one or two kids. Depending on what part of Richmond you work in you may be able to get 15/hr but like I said around here is nothing like new York and you can't expect to be paid that close to what you made there. nor sure why your moving this way but hopefully it all goes smooth and good luck. Ps also check out care.com....I find sitter city a joke and don't think any good families use that site to find nannies.
Thank u small town nanny. Husband has a job offer he can't refuse that's y we r moving. I know I'm gunna take a pay cut I can live with 12/hour I'll also set look into traveling into Richmond
Maybe go through an agency. Send out a detailed resume. Your services are very valuable. Try not and settle for low wages. On a side note maybe you can offer ABA services in that area.
I was going to say that there are a lot of agencies hiring for ABA therapy in the area and you can make close to 20/hr with that type of work. Since you have a degree and special needs experience that would be a good avenue to try where you could still work with kids but make a little more. And that's why I mentioned river city sitters because they are the "agency" most families in the area use but still through them it's usually 11 to 12/hr you will make.
If you can, go north! Maybe even Fredericksburg? I pay $565 per week for two children in daycare just outside of DC. And I have a steal, compared to other daycares. I bet the $4 per hour lists are not looking for professional nannies.
