Super Soccer Stars in NYC

bad nanny sighting
I was at the Super Soccer Stars on  89th and Columbus this afternoon right around 4. I got there during the between class shuffle, but, learned quickly that a nanny who was there with a little boy, around 2.5. The little boy threw up on the upholstered bleacher area, the nanny just got up, moved her stuff and the kid to another chair, then told the desk to clean it up. She then sent him into class. I stopped it, spoke with the teacher, explained what happened, the teacher said, that he was sorry, but the boy should go home the stomach virus was going around... the nanny just sat there and kept on saying he's fine, he has no fever, he went to school today and was fine!

She was rather petite, of Indian descent but from the Islands. CRAZY!

Apparently this nanny doesn't have any manners-who in the hell is she to expect the staff to clean up after her charge? The Queen of Nannies?!

If her charge threw up, most likely he is getting the flu. I had the flu the first week of the new year, without fever. It did cause me to hurl several times throughout the day and even fall on the floor, scaring the cat because I was lightheaded. Regardless, this child should've been taken home to rest, as he probably has the flu.

I remember having a child throw up in check-out when I worked retail. The mother cleaned the child up, and I helped her. I also had someone bag her groceries, and take them to her car, also offering several plastic bags and several sheets of paper towel from my register. She ended up calling my manager, who praised me for my outstanding customer service skills.

I think we should all throw up at once and let the nanny clean it up.

Trying to have the child stay is wrong, but for the same reason I believe having the child stay is wrong I feel that the nanny should NOT try to clean in this situation. At least from what I've seen most aren't as nutty as I to always have Clorox wipes with them at all times. At best most have hand or diaper wipes, enough to pick up the goo but not disinfect the area. It is reasonable to assume staff at such a place would have the necessary stuff. For disease control, attempting to clean and telling no one is the worst thing you could do.

I used to work for someone who would always send her children places like this when they were sick. It was more important to her that they be out of the house than that they might be infecting other children. I would feel bad, but of course I followed her instructions.

I worked at a daycare for 3 1/2 years and saw countless parents bring their sick kids to the center, or kids with pink eye. Drove me nuts!

My four year old charge threw up repeatedly during the night a few nights ago. When I arrived n the morning and MB told me about it, I said I guess no school for him today. She said No he can still go to school. I then reminded her about the no vomitting for 24 hours rule and said I wouldn't be taking him to school. I'm sure it pissed her off but I don't care. Kids shouldn't be at school (or soccer class) if they are sick!

Like Anon, I most recently nannied for a little girl who vomited whenever she was stressed or simply wanted to get her own way regarding something. It used to stress me out big time and after a few weeks, I just got sick and tired of cleaning up/disinfecting vomit areas, clothes, etc.
So we don't know if this child was truly ill or simply vomiting for other reasons. I think the nanny should do the initial clean-up, then let the staff disinfect the area with whatever they have in hand. For this nanny to blatantly demand someone clean up the vomit is a huge sign of self-entitlement. What is her problem???????????????

B/c I forgot a moniker

Wow - I can't believe I saw this. I'm familiar with this situation and can say that the OP is not presenting it correctly. Yes, the little boy did throw up. Yes, the nanny moved the boy as he was her priority but she then asked the desk for something to clean the mess up and they volunteered to do it instead! The little boy was indeed sick, but this was the first time he had thrown up and my understanding is that the rest of his symptoms did not appear until later in the evening and he does have a history of throwing up when he is not sick. This post is completely biased and not representative of what happened.

I had a child that would purposefully make themselves throw up when he was mad about something. It got to the point where paper towels and disinfectant were included in his diaper bag. People used to look at me and make comments when I would clean it up and move on with my errand but they didn't get the situation. I don't think the nanny should've just moved but we don't know her charge she does.

Thank you for posting, NYC Mom, and setting the record straight! The nanny in question is not my nanny, but I do know her, and she has even babysat for my 2 boys. She is a wonderful nanny - very caring and extremely responsible. If she thought for a second that the child was actually ill, she would have taken him out immediately. And she DID try to clean up the mess, even while some moms yelled at her to take the child out of the class. Please get your story straight before posting incorrect and potentially damaging stories up here.
