Some of these ads crack me up! $5.00 per hour for a child with special medical needs.......
Must be available ALL HOURS for 3 different families......
I know economic times are tough right now, but honestly, if you cannot afford to pay your nanny at least the standard going rate for your area, perhaps it's time to realize you simply cannot afford one. Child care may be a necessity, but a nanny is a luxury. You would not go to work for a job or company offering to pay you piddlywinks, why would you expect anyone to come work for you for that?
Just my thoughts....

Do you think these posters actually find nannies?

Yah your "kids" are picky. That's why you need completely random hours, because your toddlers are picky. WTF indeed!

Why was #11 included?

I usually find most of these to be amusing, but I don't get how some people can find it funny that a family can only afford to pay $5/hr for their baby with medical problems that was born a micro-preemie. Is it really funny that a family cant afford to pay more than that. We dont know what their financial situation is in terms of medical bills, employment, etc.. Not everyone can afford to pay $15+/hr.

Believe it or not, # 14 is not that far-fetched for NYC. There are many people in NYC looking for live-in nannies to provide 24 hour a day, 5-6 day a week care for their children, and they act like it's perfectly normal. I interviewed for a job with a set of 6 month old twins that was 24 hrs. a day, 5 days a week. The pay was $250 a day. That's $10.41/hr. And they were hiring a weekend nanny because the mom said, "Tt's not healthy for you to work 7 days a week." Needless to say, that was not the job for me!

Also, #5 and #10 could start a business and rack up taking the jobs posted on this site! Their expectations are as low as the pay these parents are offering, and the pay is about right for the way they're representing themselves!

#19 made me laugh out loud...I would have accepted an interview just to laugh in their face!

As far as the medically fragile premie family is concerned, it makes no sense to me to trust that $250/week would get the high level care the baby needs. Naturally, we don't know the circumstances, but if it's a 2 parent home, I would think they need to consider having the lower earning parent stay home.

In many situations, people do find that once they make that decision, they aren't really missing that much money - if you subtract childcare, work clothes, commuting costs, the amount of taxes owed on the 2nd income, etc., you often don't have much left.

So, no, not funny, just sad IMO.

I would totally use Number one if she checked out healthwise and everything else. Breastmilk for my baby and I wouldn't have to pump all day! Yee Haw.

I agree with Tales from the (Nanny)Hood. And that's often the case in many families, but it's hard to convince people of that. There is also government assistance and/or programs for many special needs children whose family can't afford adequate care. Those programs also include early evaluation and intervention for preemies. This family very well might qualify.

I have helped care for a set of micro-preemie twins. Putting a baby in that condition in the wrong hands can be fatal. Between the respiratory problems and the digestive problems, these babies have to be watched very carefully. It's sad that these parents are desperate enough to advertise for childcare for their fragile baby on Craig's List, of all places.

Am I missing something about #11? What is wrong with that ad?

Tales from the (Nanny)Hood said...

nycnanny, I think #11 is here because of the flash cards, math and reading lessons for a 3 year old. Or due to the very...specific...tone of the ad, combined with the possibly forced humor about the trampoline.

You are all so rude. what gives you the right to post other people's adds on here. You dont know the situation that people sometimes find themselves in and this site is just degrading. People are just trying to be honest and you all sit here and make fun of their adds. get a life. youre all probably unemployed anyways...
