Hi, I am a nanny/sitter. I have a long line of experience with working with children in different environments (schools, daycares, dance studios, in-home care, etc). I started with a new family this year as my last family I worked for moved away. I started working for this family in late August of this year 2017. I take care of the child M-F full time when she is not in school. The parents want nothing to do with the child and go drink at bars and do not come home late. I even was forced to buy a new vehicle to transport their child around. I must drop her off to school (which is 30 mins away) and pick her up from school, take her to after-school actives and such. They do not pay for insurance, my insurance went up for having this child in my car by $94 monthly. I am at ends-witt. They are not friendly ever. You cannot have a normal conversation with them, everything is so weird. They have tried getting me to take care of someone else's kids in which I do not know the parents. I told them I was not comfortable with it and they got on my case. Well, I bought the kid 2 Christmas presents for this year. I wrapped them very nice and neat. I even gave a card to the child. I also provided a Christmas card for the parents. Well, I was not even given a bonus, and the gift they gave me was re-gifted. It was not even wrapped just handed to me. I was not even given more pay for this week even though I am working 15 more hours than normal. No holiday bonus, no raise, nothing. I do not even get compensated for gas. I'm very upset almost in tears.
IMPORTANT UPDATE! This Op has written in the comment section that yes, she has wisely quit this bad work situation. She is wondering if she should go to a child advocate party such as the children's principle or CPS on behalf of the children. Several posters have said YES!!

It is time for a new job! Honestly it will keep getting worse and you need to be happy. Ask for the money they owe you, don't let them get away with it
I was the person who sent this in. I did end up not working for them anymore. There's a lot more than what I wrote about. The child hinted around about being abused sexually. The parents are always drunk and one day I went there in the morning and there were 8-10 empty bottles of wine left out and I asked the child if her mom was going to do a project with the wine bottles (I use my parents wine bottles to do crafts for their bathrooms and such) and she said no, that was all her parents drank last night. They take her to restaurants late at night and have her sit at a table and the parents drink at the bar. Its pretty sad. The child also makes herself puke after eating. I use to work at the schools and I'm debating if I should talk to the principle about this. I know I should call CPS also.
Its really sad how people neglect their nanny!
"It's really sad how people neglect their... NANNY?!?"
Actually it's sort of more tragic how people neglect your CHILDREN. You're a capable adult and any one of the things you mentioned is a huge red flag to get out, or at least stop and address it. The child js the one suffering here and you should ABSOLUTELY talk to CPS.
But seriously, that sentence did not end like it should have. 🙄
Taleia could not be more right, OP - you need to talk to CPS - not just for the child but for your own welfare. If something happens to the child and it's proven that you knew something, the situation could come back on you legally !
I seriously hope you talk to CPS. You are that childs voice. The emotional abuse can be just as bad as the sexually/ physically abuse.
You did not deserve to be in this position, as you have been very professional and responsible. But you must talk to someone or in future you may be very regretful. Please let us know if you can and good luck.
“its really sad how people neglect their nanny” ARE YOU KIDDING ME? You’ve said many very alarming things happening in this home and to this child and you’re worried about you, A GROWN woman not getting compensated for extra hours when you havent even expressed to them you wanted more money. Why is it even a question if you should call someone.. umm YES.
