Bad Parent Report

Date : Dec 30 2015 app 1pm
Location : Walmart @ Fry and Little York, Houston Tx

From V. E. a concerned father

Dear Walmart Bad Parents:

I saw you and your family passing these around, just laughing and sharing in the holiday merriment. I could not tell what you were saying. Maybe you were sharing family stories. You all appear to be a close knit family from the oldest looking to the toddler in the grocery basket. All were having a grand time, laughing and smiling, passing around those grapes. I am not sure why you did not purchase them. I am not sure what the price per pound was, but since you had eaten half of them, then they should not have cost that much, right? You had your own 50% off sale going on but instead of purchasing them you left them at the register.

That translates into theft. As a dad, I teach myself the opposite of these values I just witnessed. Hopefully you understand why I was looking at you like you did something wrong - because you did!

I wouldn't say this is a bad parent necessarily. It's not okay that they did this though.

I don't know. What if they are really poor and cannot afford fresh fruit for their children?

Just a thought before jumping to conclusions.

At many grocery stores near me, bags of grapes like that have a set price and are NOT sold by weight. Since you don't know the price per pound... maybe there *wasn't* a price per pound.

regardless if it was priced per pound or per bag, they stole. They are teaching their children to steal. I don't care who you are, stealing is not acceptable.

They should have paid for them, yes. I guess what bothers me most is that they didn't pay for them, not that they were eating them (especially if they already priced out as bex said) I don't know how old the children were but I know my sister has opened packages such as crackers or cookies or even lunchables etc. at the store with my nephew when he's hungry (all things that are not prices by weight) however, she still pays for it after. So yeah, inguessnit not good parenting to teach your kids to eat them then put it back. But eating in the store (as much as it drives me nuts when my sister does it) I can understand as long as you still pay for it at the end.

I'm just not sure what it has to do with nannying at all...

So, I'm a bad mom for giving my son a banana that is pre-priced while I'm shopping? I pay for it at the end. I assume the OP followed this family around Walmart and witnessed them NOT paying at the end for the grapes? Give me a break. This is not a story.

Really, the story here is that they ate fruit that wasn't washed. Gross. It's not really appropriate for this site though.

No, your not a bad mom for giving your child a banana that you paid for. If you read the OP it said he witnessed them giving the children the grapes, eating half the bag and then not paying for them.

No, this does not have anything to do with nannying, but it does have something to do with children, which if I am not mistaken, is what the new owner is trying to do with this blog. Make it all about everything to do with children. Leigh, am I correct?

really great comments - thank you guys!

I agree that it's not wrong to eat or drink something in good faith while you are shopping - the whole foods and kroger i shop at encourage it, and very few stores (managers) would object to letting a young client eat a banana or anything before paying, nothing wrong with that at all, many stores encourage it.

I think it's obvious that in this case - the parents stole food, they were probably not poor, and the little toddler was there learning this bad behaviour.

Taleia - what does this have to do with nannying? nothing ! An ironic undertone is that many posters get upset at bad nanny sightings saying - how do we know it's really the nanny and not a parent/aunt/babysitter - so I thought it would be cool to post an Op where we KNOW it's the parents!

But... it could have been three nannies related to each other... JK!!!

Anyone - at all- who does wrong to a child - is a target for this site - bring it on!

ps - thank you Taleia - you really give good advice to everyone !!

I don't exactly count this as doing anything "wrong to a child"... If the worst thing these people do in their lives is walk around Walmart and eat grapes and then not pay for them, I think the child will be just fine. Still not appropriate for this site. Unless you change the name...

anonymous - have you ever had someone steal from you? I hope not. And I hope you never experience it. I run a business and I have suffered from theft in more than one way - I have had people who work for me steal from me and i have had clients steal. Depending on the situation - theft can merely be annoying or --- it can cause you to not have Christmas that year, and -- some thefts can affect your living and food on the table permanently. The adults who were basically teaching the toddler to steal absolutely were harming the child and all the rest of us as humans.

And yes, as the new year progresses we will post all sorts of things with the goal being to help children - tell a friend !! TU !!
