  2. To the last ad:

I am speechless. I live in Rhode Island.

I am a single mom of one, and I am pretty poor, but our house is warm and we have food. My child's clothes are clean and nice, but they are hand-me-downs from my sister's kids. I left my husband because he was abusive.

I make minimum wage and I employ a part time babysitter. She works 15 hours a week and I pay her 8 dollars an hour. That is very low, I know. I am grateful to have her: if I made more than that I would pay her more than that.

OP is obviously a disgusting person, as we can tell from her response. She's really ghetto and gross. :( It makes me sad.

  3. 1. How does a person's legs determine their ability to be a nanny? Note to self: Read Number 1 again-"attractive and open minded"...Can we say a single dad looking for a private nanny?

    2. Hmmmmmm....

    3. Awww...She should have paid more attention in health class.

    5. Work for free? OK!

    6. Interesting.

    10. A 2 yr old babysitter?

    14. For $60, I would have quit too. I can that babysitting for 6 hours.

    18. Interacting with kids, keeping a 1 year old safe, AND house cleaning? The nanny does everything in a half hour? Delusional...

    19. $550 divided by 2, multiplied by 0.20= $220 per week. Enroll your kids in daycare and stop insulting nannies with that pay!

    22. Number 22, meet number 19. Number 19, meet number 22.

    23. I sent this one in. 2 kids under 5 who don't nap, free room and board for pay, the entire weekend gone for nothing and being paid for babysitting but not being paid for the ridiculous hours?

33-39. Wow. Interesting. Curious. Lack of maturity on the mother's part.

  4. Number two is just insane! You would basically live as one of her children, not an adult nanny. Who demands how long cups have to be on your table? That is just ridiculous.
Also, you are expected to just watch the children overnight with no extra pay, unless of course it is for longer than 4 days, then they will add something.
Oh, and you have to use your car, take them to the pool everyday, and share a bathroom with them. Sorry, but no.
    I can't believe this woman.

PS-I love Satan too; he brings the best presents!

  5. Actually, if I was looking for a nanny job, I would apply for #6. Would definitely be interesting. I know carnivals have a bad name, but they aren't all bad. I worked for one for a summer that was a small, family-owned business and was very clean.

  6. OMG- The last ad was crazy! The mother sounds like an ignorant nut job.

  7. What's wrong with number 3? The ironic pronunciate typo? Or the fact that she's a young mom? Kind of harsh either way.

The last one is great. I hope she's raising her children to be as well spoken and rational as she appears to be.

  8. OMG LOL hahahah! That photo is TOO much! Just had a great laugh with my husband and his friend this morning, thank you!

  9. I love how people think they can throw a weekly or monthly rate at you and just assume you won't do the math and figure out they're going to pay you $3/hr. Before taxes.

  10. That last mother sounds quite endearing, doesn't she? ;)

  11. The only thing that bugs me about #24 & #25 is that yes that woman is offering way too low of a salary- she should definitely be ashamed of herself (anyone offering under minimum wage should be) but the response is what bothers me. My husband is military & just because they are military and deployed doesn't mean they make great money. Many military families live paycheck to paycheck. There are a lot of military families on WIC and food stamps. Trust me when I say they do not make great money. So I definitely understand the response and her frustration but i wish people realized military families don't make all this amazing money.

Again- not defending the wife offering the horrible wage but just felt the need to leave me 2 cents about the way the response was made.

  12. I've said this before and I will say it again: The military needs to do more for the childcare needs of the families that are serving our country, fighting for our rights and freedoms.

KatherinECO is right, military famillies do not make squat and left to their own defenses when trying to make ends meet and get good childcare. Military bases should have facilities for childcare and provide vouchers for those in the military.

  13. The military does provide some options for families for childcare.

  14. Not to underscore those in the Military that are a lower grade and not paid as well but let's not group all Military together as low-paying. My husband makes a very handsome salary and has just retired, and now going back in as a civilian to where he was before for even more pay. I know it takes years, and all young Military suffer and need special services but when you put your time in, it pays off for quite a few.

  15. Ok, I am wondering with all the single dad posts "looking for nanny and more". How many of those are actually legitimate posts or is trying to score the number one spot?? Not saying the contributors who spot them are doing it, just someone writing that ad in Craig’s List. These have been popping up way too often, compared to previous CL-WTF posts. Before I would see maybe one every three months or so. But nearly every CL WTF recently? They are also generally well written compared to past ones.

  16. This is the first time I've visited your blog; i found it by googling "nanny blogs" because I wanted to find some more people who share my frustrations with the way parents often do not understand how to treat a nanny.

I'm from Chicago, and I saw the Feature post on here a few days ago when looking at nannying jobs in my area...it made me sad that this man has 2 *teenage* daughters and thinks of women this way...
