.... WHAT?!
Feature:
1) Couple looking for younger, live in help (Illinois)
We are a young, professional, attractive couple with two children. We travel quite often for our small business and prefer to take our children with us. We are looking for someone to take along with us to take care of them while we work, and then be a part of the family when we're not working. The ideal candidate would be between 18-22 yrs old and be fit and attractive. We have two girls and we want to set a good example for them, and they are both quite active. We have a larger enough home for you to live with us and would prefer that you did. If interested in finding out more information, please respond to this post with LIVE IN as your subject title. Please attach two pictures, one head shot, and one full body. Otherwise you will not be considered. We are 420 friendly. Thank you-

Good week this week.
ReplyDeleteTo #1. Since when is 420 child friendly? I have cousins who pass joints over the heads of their children AT THE BREAKFAST TABLE. That was my last visit.
To #34 You may have a view, but you are idiots. You offer room and board in the first paragraph, and then later add than you intend to charge $225 for rent and utilities. Stupid and greedy.
eww. 420 friendly. how classless. to those parents: grow up. your poor kids.
ReplyDeleteif you are a parent and you are still getting high, you really have problems. I don't give a crap if your kids are asleep or not. if you are smoking up and you are a parent, you're a loser.
#1 is definitely looking for more than a nanny, to say the least. "Fit" is one thing, keeping up with active children. But specifying a sexually attractive young nanny along with 420-friendly? Ah, they're interested in things not childcare related.
ReplyDelete#1 is sick. Asking for a head shot is bad enough, but they want a full body shot! Ewww! And why the hell would anyone want a pot smoker taking care of their children?
ReplyDeleteSeriously... someone needs to copy #1's add and send it in to the proper authorities. Hiring someone to care for your children and in the last line of your ad saying that you be perfectly okay if they were a dope smoker... that's just sick!
ReplyDeleteAnd Village -- I caught that bit in #34 as well... but it's not just $225... it's $225 PER WEEK! They say they're going to pay $8-$10 per hour - at 45 hours/week that's $450. So they're planning on taking 1/2 the salary to pay NINE HUNDRED dollars/month in rent and utilities.
This is my take on that -- This couple is SCAMMING their future nanny into thinking she'll be making $10/hour ($1800/month) when really she'll only be making $5/hour ($900/month)
That's just pathetic.
Rachel-Good catch-$225 A WEEK!! OMG $225 a month was bad enough.
ReplyDeleteSo it's a scam to pay $5 hour, if they pay $10, and the ad said $8 to $10 an hour. I assume they are going to hire someone who can't do math.
I sent an email to point out the "error", explaining that they posted that the job was "in exchange" for room in board that they go on to say that the nanny will be paying $900/month out of her salary for.
ReplyDeleteI also noted that they stated the nanny would likely work only 40 hours/week, so even at $10/hour, $400-$225 = $175/40... is less than $5 per hour.
We'll see what she has to say.
The nanny who wrote post #5 just posted another ad against this Erica woman. Apparently she has left multiple nannies stranded and never pays them!
ReplyDeleteHere's the link:
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/kid/1631552204.html
I am sad for #3. I hope she is able to find a good sitter or center and is able to get out of her situation safely for the sake of her baby (and herself, for that matter) Wish I was in DC to help her out.
ReplyDeleteI can only hope that these posters with the warnings aout Erika have gone to the police or are speaking to lawyers about getting the money they're owed.
ReplyDeleteI sent ad 1 to the mercer county sherriff and PD. :D
ReplyDelete"We are looking for someone to be part of the family when we are not working".....
ReplyDeleteI wonder what they mean by family? My guess is that "family" refers to their circle of "friends" that have a thing for young, attractive nannies. I can only guess what kind of friends those friends are and what they do when they are not working. Gross!
Wow, this is one of the best CL-WTF's ever. But that's kind of like saying the 'best' accident, since these people are train wrecks.
ReplyDeleteProps to the 'run of the mill' angry reader who popped the arrogance out that poster's balloon! Ha!
What I find truly creepy about #1, is that after making it very clear that they are attractive, and the nanny needs to be attractive, code for a sexual arrangement, they then describe their two daughters as attractive!
ReplyDelete#2. That sounds like a kid I would love to work with! If I were in the UK I would answer that ad.
What I find truly creepy about #1, is that after making it very clear that they are attractive, and the nanny needs to be attractive, code for a sexual arrangement, they then describe their two daughters as attractive!
ReplyDeleteThey describe their two daughters as active.
You reported 1 to the authorities? That's just wrong. I wouldn't respond to that ad, but what people do in their own homes is their own business. I don't think a little marijuana, not smoked around the children, hurts anyone.
ReplyDeletesusie,
ReplyDeleteif you're a stoner, of course you don't see a problem with it. maybe someday you will grow up and put such things aside and focus on leading a healthy, adult life.
any illegal substance in a home where there are children is a problem. any parent or adult who is under the influence of an illegal substance has a problem.
if you can't see that, well...go pull some more bongs. after you walk the dog and stuff.
The cops read CL, as well as plant ads looking for drug dealers. #1 may have been cops planning to bust whoever answered, or the cops may have read the ad. There was no need to turn them in. Cops are looking for the 420 reference in CL ads as SOP. It's not like the 60's anymore, when drug slang was greek to adults.
ReplyDeleteanon, you wrote:
ReplyDelete"grow up susie: I've never smoked pot. But I still agree with Susie that it's not going to hurt the kids as long as it's done in moderation and not around them. It's on par with drinking after the kids have gone to bed, except that alcohol is more dangerous because you can overdose on alcohol and you can't overdose on marijuana. Pot also isn't addictive like alcohol or even nicotine."
...
you pot heads and pot head lovers are all so predictable: save the "alcohol is worse" speech. please.
the point is that it is STUPID to advertise on CL that you are a POT SMOKER in the CHILDCARE SECTION.
anonymous,
ReplyDeletethat is the dumbest thing I ever heard. you can't overdose on pot? how would you know if you have never smoked it? One can certainly smoke enough pot that their ability to care for their children is impaired.
Also, if you think that pot is not addictive, you are sorely mistaken.
http://www.addict-help.com/marijuana.asp
I worked with a man who advocated the benefits of smoking pot for several years. He also claimed it was not addictive. His GF also smoked pot. They have a 12 year old daughter. He and hs GF both claimed they were not addicted and could quit anytime they wanted. After his 3rd bust for reckless driving ( he ran a stop sign this time hitting another vehicle while high) he was given an ultimatum by the judge; probation and rehab monitered by the court or hard jail time. He has since admitted that quitting smoking pot was the hardest thing he ever had to do in his life and he definitely went through withdrawal. That was his acount. When his daughter was caught smoking pot she said she thought it was OK because she knew her mom and dad did it. They had stressed the fact that they never smoked around her.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, the police emailed me thanking me and are investigating the matter.
well done, Me!!! Good for you!!! It takes a village to protect our kids, and you are doing your part! awesome!!!
ReplyDeletexoxo
Weighing in on #1, I'm glad if the cops visit these people just die to their slimy creepiness and amazing stupidity. It sounds as iof their "young liveoin help" should be making a WHOLE lot more for thetime when she is "not working".
ReplyDeleteAs far as smoking a bit of pot when you are not caring for kids or having to drive or anything else that requires sober concentration, I have to agree that it's no different than having a couple of beers or glasses of wine in a similar situation. es, it is illegal which brings up the dilemma of having to teach kids that it;s important to obey the law even if you disagree with it, but any blather about it "leading" to use of other harder drugs is just blather. Drinking a beer on occasion does not automatically "lead" to guzling h;af a bottle of whiskey before breakfast to dull the hangover from the nnight before, and a toke here and there does not automatically lead o shooting up with heroin or becoming a crackhead, unless one has an addictive gene in which case practically ANYTHING, legal or not, can become an addiction problem.
(Cigarettes, plastic surgery, shopping, gambling, casual sex...)
I don't smoke pot, gave it up in my 20's because it wasn't usually fun anymore, but moderation is moderation and addiction is addiction.
Oh dear, sorry for all the typos!
ReplyDeletecali mom shut up you freaking pot head.
ReplyDeletehahahahah. just kidding. :) lol
well said. ;)
Amen Calimom!
ReplyDeleteObviously these people were foolish posting an ad mentioning their pot usage, but I think we all know craigslist isn't know for showing us the best of society.
People ASSume some of the most ignorant things about cannabis users... use a tincture every night before bed and suddenly you're a "classless", child abusing, reckless driving, sexually deviant, pothead loser.
And "they" tell us to grow up...
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI do think it is classless to smoke up once you have kids, denver nanny. I do think it makes you a loser. I do think that it makes you a reckless driver, or at least a driver I don't want on the road with me and my family. How do I know how you drive when you are stoned? How dare you take that chance. It's really stupid and it does make you a loser and a bad role model and parent.
ReplyDeleteSexual deviant? I don't think it makes you that, though.
You know what's bad for kids? Growing up in a meth lab. Or a mom who sells your bicycle, the television, or her body to score a hit. Or a dad who comes home wasted every night and starts beating mom. Those things are detrimental. But I must draw a distinction between drug use and drug abuse. Because, um, not the same thing.
ReplyDeleteThank you etc. Exactly the same as with alcohol. Have *a* beer, fine. It doesn't make you a child neglecting alcoholic. Or a danger on the road the next day.
ReplyDeleteI'm Susie, the dog walking "loser" lol. I'm also a nanny and a published author (http://www.raleighquarterly.com and Broken Plate Magazine) and not a pot smoker!!
ReplyDeleteI just personally don't take issue with people who smoke a little marijuana in their own homes, just like I don't take issue with people who have a couple of beers in their own homes.
One of the family members of the wonderful children I nanny for works for the highway patrol. This individual has a beer the second he gets in the door.
I do not think this makes him a bad parent, just someone who needs to unwind after a hard day's work.
All I'm saying is that, as has been said here, what people choose to do in their homes is none of my concern, as long as to my knowledge, it is not hurting the children in any way.
Granted, it's probably a bit of a problem if people are bothering to post it in their Craigslist nanny ads, but for many people (hippies/artists/etc, etc) it is simply a way of life.
wow. I thought pot smokers were supposed to be laid back. apparently some are in need of anger management.
ReplyDeletefrom before: one can overdose on a drug and not die. od-ing means taking more than the recommended dosage of a drug. If the drug is illegal or not prescribed, any amount is not recommended.
and suzie: shamelessly spam your page much? I hope mpp takes your post down because you are not supposed to link to your own page your freaking moron.
and I think what people choose to do in their own homes is their business too unless it involves a child: not just my children, but any children. kids don't have the power to choose whether or not their parents do illegal drugs. so we must, as adults, make the right choice for them.
I really am astounded by the stupidity of the arguments here for pot usage. some of the comments here in general are just so...lol idiotic. how do I know that you can die from heroin if I've never tried it? lol um..cus I saw the movie Trainspotting.
also, anyone who calls themselves a hippie or an artist is usually neither.
Marijuana is not chemically addictive, it is an emotional addiction--otherwise known as a compulsion. I find it interesting that this country is still so up in arms about it, pretty much the rest of the world doesn't consider it dangerous anymore. I am not a parent, but if I was I would not use around my children. I actually don't use anymore because it was making me so lazy. That would be my #1 reason why I wouldn't want a nanny to use--she would be lazy.
ReplyDeletedecrim,
ReplyDeleteaddiction is bad. gambling addiction is not chemical either, but it can destroy lives.
you're an idiot. a lazy idiot. I don't believe for a second that you do not smoke pot anymore. thank god you don't have kids and hopefully you won't ever. think of all the drugs that would be in their system.
That is so neat that they are 420 friendly and proud of it.
ReplyDeleteMy house is 420 friendly, though I am not. And the kid isn't the wiser. Smoking in front of the kids when they are old enough to see what you are doing isn't cool. I don't even like to smoke my cigarettes in front of kids. They stare...and it's rude.
If more people were 420 friendly, instead of alcoholics...we would have a much happier world!
Phoenix,
ReplyDeleteyou underestimate the intelligence of kids. trust me: they know.
Your comment was deleted because you need a moniker:
ReplyDeleteAnonymous (from before):
I don't know why my comment was deleted? But this: "that is the dumbest thing I ever heard. you can't overdose on pot? how would you know if you have never smoked it? One can certainly smoke enough pot that their ability to care for their children is impaired.
Also, if you think that pot is not addictive, you are sorely mistaken."
How do you know you can overdose on heroin if you've never shot up? Idiot. I've done RESEARCH. Obviously you can smoke enough pot that your ability to care for kids is impaired. All I said was that you can't OD, that is, you won't die from smoking too much pot. And my word choice was poor, I meant that marijuana isn't AS addictive as alcohol or nicotine. It's one of the least addictive drugs out there.
I don't really think it's a good idea to do drugs when you're responsible for kids. I'm just saying that smoking a tiny bit of pot after the kids are in bed is equivalent to drinking a couple of beers after the kids are in bed. (Also, possession's been decriminalized in a few states now, including mine. It's not legal but it's not going to make you go to jail or anything.)
I have no problem with people smoking pot. None. Really. BUT, I do have a problem with someone listing in their craigslist ad for a nanny that they'd basically be okay with their nanny smoking pot.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be no different than having a post for a nanny that said "And hey, we have a fridge that's always fully stocked with tequila!"
And tequila is even perfectly legal (if you're 21 of course), but it's also totally unacceptable if you're taking care of someone else's children!
Period.
I don't think they were listed that their nanny NEEDS to smoke pot. That is telling anyone who posts for the position to not freak out because this family is 420 friendly.
ReplyDeleteYou all really don't know how pot heads work do you?
?? you said:
ReplyDelete"you're an idiot. a lazy idiot. I don't believe for a second that you do not smoke pot anymore. thank god you don't have kids and hopefully you won't ever. think of all the drugs that would be in their system."
Wow, way to judge a person you've never met. I don't care what you think of me, because you don't know anything about me. I am a nanny for a family who loves me and loves that I am not lazy. I smoked pot when I was younger because that's what a lot of lazy kids do. In recent years, I've become more aware of what I put into my body and so I've stopped smoking pot, cigarettes and drinking alcohol.
If we're going to go around calling each other names, I'm going to have to assume you're some conservative nutjob who obviously thinks she knows everything. In which case I probably shouldn't have even bothered defending myself.
Decrim: The ??? poster is most likely dadiswrongonthisone. She typically posts under several monikers. I can always tell when it's her. I agree with your stand on this issue. Well said.
ReplyDeleteVANanny,
ReplyDeleteget a life! lol
I think the bottom line here is that when you have children, it really is time to put away the juvenile habit of getting stoned.
To advertise on CL that you get high is beyond stupid. Sorry VA Nanny, but clearly others share my opinion. Is it really so hard to believe that? You really think I am the only one who thinks that it is totally uncool to be a pot smoking parent, and extremely idiotic to advertise it on the internet? If you think I am the only one who believes that, you are naive!
No, I can see that others share your opinion. I know this is a controversial subject and truthfully, I am on the fence. The reason I suspect that you are the ?? poster is because when someone doesn't agree with you, you insult them with childish phrases such as "idiot" and "loser". So, you are fooling no one.
ReplyDeleteVA Nanny get a life, you have way too much time on your hands!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I'm not the one posting under different monikers!
ReplyDeleteVANanny, I notice a pattern in your posts, actually now that I look: you seem to always accuse posters of being other posters: I can see by your post history that I am not the only one you have done this to.
ReplyDeleteSo, as soon as your child is born, it really is time to put away the juvenile habit of getting drunk. Hear that y'all? No more wine. A "glass with dinner" is just a silly excuse to get shitfaced, you irresponsible losers. And to think, restaurants even make money off your pathetic habit with their "corkage" fees. So what if it's a wedding? Champagne is for lazy losers and people without kids. I sure as hell don't want you hungover idiots with kids driving around MY roads the day after dropping that bubbly.
ReplyDeletecali mom, I think the problem with that argument is that with alcohol, there is a way to regulate it, and if you are over the legal limit on the breathalizer, you fail. There is really no way to measure how high someone is. I agree with you that nobody should drink at all when they are going to be driving or are hungover. I don't think anybody should be on any substance when they are caring for their kids.
ReplyDeleteSome people drink a glass of wine because we like the taste. And we stop there. It is legal though, and until pot is, it really is a juvenile habit, in my opinion. I don't necessarily think people who smoke pot are lazy, I just think they are not putting their kids first: they are putting their bowl first. Same with people who are drinking to excess around kids. IT is just as wrong. But drinking a glass of wine is legal and smoking a bowl is not, unless you have a prescription for it, which would make it legal.
I just think it is a risk that only a foolish person would take.
Decrim:
ReplyDeleteNews flash --- lazy people don't smoke pot. ALL differnt kinds people smoke pot. My husband runs 10 miles a day, he has smoked pot every day of his life since he was 12. And still does
What is your defenition of lazy?
You can't generalize. You can't put everyone in a catagory because you are nieve and ignorant.
I have done every single drug that God had to offer on this planet grown or made. I graduated the top of my class, received my bachelors at 22 and my masters at 24...while still keeping my appearance to above average. I did a drug every single day. My point is that everyone is different, I know that there are bad druggies out there who shouldn't be allowed to leave the house.
If you have never experienced this type of life, known the people in it, then you have no right to pass judgement on others. You have no idea what the fuck you are talking about. So shut up.
Phoenix,
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that you did so many drugs when you were growing up. It can't be good for your system. It cannot be healthy. There must be after effects on your body if you did that many drugs, specifically on your reproductive system. Frankly, it is really nothing to brag about.
As far as my own thoughts on higher education, I know countless people who are extremely dumb who have a million degrees. I have a degree too, but to me it doesn't mean much. It means less if you did not work your way through college. But overall, a college education means less than people are raised to think it means. Anyone can get a college degree, and most people do it while they are doing drugs. I went to college. Of course people do a lot of drugs in college. It is college. Time to grow up.
Sorry you are getting angry and saying F this and F that. I do respect your opinion, even if you cannot express it without swearing. I agree that not all people who smoke pot are lazy. And I respect your right to live your life the way you see fit. I just think it is sad that some people cannot be alone with themselves without drugs.
Oh really? And I have too much time on my hands? Lol! Actually you are the first. Never even thought anyone else was posting under different monikers (aside from you)and certainly never posted about it. I'd welcome any examples you have come across!!! Yeah, that's what I thought.
ReplyDeleteValid points made by Phoenix. I'm still on the fence about the issue as I am about many controversial issues.
Sorry the 1st part of my previous post was directed at dadiswrong. Just wanted to clarify! =)
ReplyDeleteseriously do we have to have this in depth discussion on pot every time it appears on CL-wtf? We get it - some people think pot is horrible and some people don't. Let's find something new to argue about!
ReplyDeleteVANAnny, Do you always have to have the last word? Let it go, already: you are not even arguing about the issue. We are not supposed to try to guess who is who on this blog anyway.Your posts have turned into just a junior high fight with another poster. You are only making yourself look silly. If you try to attack another poster for supposedly posting under multiple monikers, you have invited the thread to deteriorate and you look just as laughable as they do!
ReplyDeleteAlso think it is funny that you feel Phoenix has "valid points" when she is using the expression "you don't know what the **** you are talking about" and yet you attack other posters for saying "idiot" and "loser." In other words, as long as someone agrees with you, they have valid points. Just some food for thought! :)
Phoenix,
ReplyDeleteI didn't mean to generalise. I just meant that it made me lazy and so when I recognised that in myself, I decided to stop using all substances, get a job and become a functional member of society. Also, a lot of my pothead friends are lazy when they're high and can't be bothered to keep a job. I understand that everyone is different.
Dadiswrong...,
That was a really bitchy and inappropriate thing for you to say to Phoenix about her reproductive system. It is none of your business. Plus you seem to be implying that a miscarriage is all her fault due to former drug use. I think you said that just to be hurtful, which is never necessary on a forum (or anywhere else in life).
DP,
ReplyDeleteI had no idea she had had a miscarriage. :(
Yeah, I was going to say that was a low blow, Dadiswrong. I cringed when I read what you wrote about Phoenix. I truly hope you did not know, and did not mean it.
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't know.
ReplyDeleteHere is a good link regarding drug use prior to pregnancy and the ill effects it can have on your future children. I truly did not mean to offend anyone, but the fact of the matter is it is the truth. Of course a very healthy person who has no drugs in their system can have a miscarriage. But why risk it is my point.
ReplyDeleteAgain, I am sorry if I offended anyone. It was not my intent.
Who said I only did them when I was growing up?
ReplyDeleteI know you didn't mean it. And everyone is addicted to something in some way or another. I still have to take 30mg morphine every day for my back...hence the drugs I still do. I consider them drugs even though they are prescribed by an md. The US states which drugs are appropriate and which aren't. Compared to the medication I have to take for my pain and smoking pot. Well hands down smoking pot is much better for the body than morphine. I see no difference in the gov't drugs vs the illegal. People still die from both (except pot)
ReplyDeleteSo yes i did do every drug growing up. I was a wild teen, now I have to take the gov't issued "legal" drugs. So I still consider myself a drug user. I am not ashamed, it is what made me today.
I know what addicts go through and i have a lot of friends addicted to heroin who won't quit, because it is their choice. I don't even tell them anymore and just accept them for what they want to do. You can't change it, unless they want to change.
Chiming: I was agreeing with Phoenix's comments on the topic of drug usage. I did not even see what was written at the bottom of the post. Sorry if I offended anyone. And Phoenix, I still agree with you. =)
ReplyDelete
