I like the one where they are looking for a babysitter 13+, but the kid is almost 12. Oh, and you and drive their truck. Hope that's not for the 13 yr old.
ReplyDeleteYES Nanny Ellie, that one is my favorite too, lmao! A 13yo babysitter for a 12yo? Are these people high? And #8 is just a weirdo! Would you hire her to watch your kids? Who says things like that in an ad to get a job? And #10 just pisses me off! That guy needs to be hung up by HIS damn feet! That baby does NOT look happy. What a creep! And the other ads that are crazy are the ones asking for a nanny to stay for 2-3 days or longer with little or NO pay! No way!
ReplyDeleteGreat ads this week!
What sort of quality childcare do these people expect for $150 a week? Are they counting on such a lousy economy that people will jump on any chance to make some money.
ReplyDeleteMy nephew who live on my block works at a local grocery store. He works 5 hours a day 4 days a week and brings home $175! His only responsibility is making sure he don't crush the bread or break the eggs! And people are trusting people to be responsible for THEIR CHILDREN for less than that?
I don't see anything wrong with the ad looking for someone with reflux experience. Yes they want the nanny to sleep in baby's room but hey, it's not for some weird reason, it's for the baby's health. NO biggie.
ReplyDeleteLOL at the Mom looking to scam a sittercity posting from another paying Mom. If she is that cheap about posting an ad, I wonder how much she is willing to pay a nanny?
The guy holding up that kid, HAS TO BE A JOKE. People put jokes on CL all the time and I really think this is one of them. There is no detail. Probably someone found this pic of a guy and his son and put it online.
I really don't get the one where they are seeking a 13 y/o for an 11 and 12 year old and to drive a truck. Maybe they want the 13 year old nanny to teach the 12 year old to drive too?
Wow, I just have to say that the picture one was scary!! Check it out if you didn't....
ReplyDeleteHi NannyinCharge -
ReplyDeleteSleeping in the room with the child was part of the reason I posted it, because that is a no-no for some.
The main reason I featured it was because of the hours they are wanting:
24/5, 8am on Monday until 8am on Saturday! The Nanny would have NO life!
I think number 9 - the one from the "upscale" nanny - is my favorite this week.
ReplyDeleteShe tries to sound so intelligent, but she doesn't quite pull it off.
I mean if you're going to call yourself well-to-do, at least know enough to include the dash.
Jeez, lighten up, people. I giggled when I saw the photo & read the caption. The photo was most certainly a joke and it really does not look like the guy is harming the child, nor does the child look distressed. Haven't you (or your husband) played with a little one like that? Kids love to be tossed up in the air and hung upside down, especially when it's all in good fun.

ReplyDeleteActually, thats not unusual in the city. The ad for 24/5 day a week care. When I was younger I went to a nanny agency in Manhattan. And they had a job like that. 24/5 a week. And the best part, the mom didn't work. She just had her own life. Very wealthy. And its true you couldn't have your own life. Even the agency told me that. You can't make plans, because you may think you have off one nite for a few hours. But then they can tell you last minute sorry we were invitied to go out for dinner, etc.
And Lame-o would be the expert on dashes, she should know! :D
ReplyDeleteNobody gets hurt -
ReplyDeleteI still think it qualifies. Some will think he's either weird & creepy, or in your case, you got a good laugh out of it.
WTF doesn't always have to mean it's bad! ;)
Re: the ad with the baby with reflux---I was actually contacted by the agency who that family is working with . They want you there from Monday morning at 8am-Saturday afternoon around 12pm. It is a 24 hour position. You cant even go out when the baby goes to bed because she has 2 night time feedings. You also wont even have your own bedroom for the first 4 months or so. So , yeah you have no life. The best part is that the mother is a doctor BUT has not gone back to work yet and doesnt know when she plans on doing it. So --shes a SAHM that needs 24/5(almost 6) coverage. $1000 a week for that is a joke. You cant have a life. You cant even go to dinner with friends after work for an hour. Its just strange. Why even bother having a child if you wont be taking care of them? Needless to say, I declined that position. They have been looking for over a month now. Cant they take a hint that noone is interested in working 24 hours a day??

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for that bit of information! Very interesting....
Yep, $1000 per week for 125 or so hours of work is not going to get them anywhere.
ReplyDeleteIf they offered $3000 per week, I bet they'd find someone willing to take the job though!

ReplyDeleteThe baby from the ad of the creepy guy hanging upside down a baby seems actually like a doll. He has an expressionless face and his hands seem a little bit awckard. Have anyone noticed this too??
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was looking at it real hard and I'm pretty sure it's a real kid. And hey, if it isn't, it's a sick joke!
ReplyDeleteOh, and you'll notice that one of the little baby's legs is kicking because the camera is out of focus on that leg (as it's in motion).
ReplyDeleteum... you don't have to pay to use sittercity. i have an account there and i didn't pay a dime! haha.
ReplyDeleteand why even have children if you want someone else to care for them 24/5? i mean, would the parents even be qualified to care for the child the other 2 days? yikes! (i understand busy parents and i understand wanting a night nurse ... but to not give breaks?!)
honest nanny:
ReplyDeletenannies don't have to pay a fee, but the families/parents do.
Nanny Ellie:
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, I must have read it wrong because I thought this was a nanny writing that she couldn't get on. My mistake.
I am reading from here in Canada.....I just love this site.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first read the 24/5 ad I was a bit surprised - this type of employment would be illegal here. You cannot legally ask someone to work those hours. We do very different rules for domestic and child-care but not so different that they work around the clock. There is only one way to do it legally and that would be to pay anything over the first 44 hours of awake as overtime. I calculated for fun - this job would pay about $1950.00 per week. Good luck to them.
I once worked full-time for $150 p/wk, but not because I was young and naive (which seems to be what these people are going for--"great for a high school/college student!"), but because it was family, and they could afford no more than that. I loved their kid too much to deny them the help...and if nothing else, I got a lot of infant experience and a decent reference out of it. Plus, the stability and comfort of working with family compensated for what I was not getting in terms of salary.
ReplyDeleteIt really does bother me that there's an air of deception or trickery to some of these "low-budget" "nanny needed" ads, though. I honestly doubt they'd throw in "great for a college student!" if they were paying a healthy amount of money for childcare.
LOL at the photo; obviously a joke.
Uh...no ads about parents looking for babysitters for that night. Gee, I thought they were oh so popular and I got bitched at about them last week.

ReplyDeleteThe only thing wrong with the reflux ad is the salary. Baby nurses often do twenty four hour shifts, and sleep in the baby's room. I know nannies who took round the clock live in jobs for a year or so in order to save money to get their own apt., however, these jobs were VERY well paid.
ReplyDeleteI'm just surprised that the agency hasn't made it clear to them that they aren't going to get a competent nanny to do that schedule for that salary.

ReplyDeleteTechnically, there is #6.
;)
I have reflux experience. I'd take that job. I don't see anything wrong with their demands, especially considering mom is on call and probably needs to squeeze in as much sleep as possible. 1000 bucks a week for Monday morning to Saturday morning? You have the weekends to yourself. I think it's worth it. Now, if they were offering less than that and expected those hours and overnights in the baby's room, I'd have a few minor qualms with it.
