CL-WTF - #8 in a series...
Seeking trustworthy nanny without baggage or an agenda of her own
Looking for a nanny comfortable in her own skin to care for two children on weekends. I would prefer someone who could come Friday night and stay thru Sunday night or better yet, Monday morning.
Desired candidate should be phsyically fit enough to run through obstacle courses with two boys ages 6 & 9, smart enough to challenge a 10 year old and answer his questions and trustworthy enough to be left alone with children.
We are not looking for any closet smokers, anyone looking to make our children a part of her facebook or myspace page or anyone who dresses in such a way that it would appear she is trying to entice every carpenter, plumber and married mogul.
Pay is highly competetive and dependant on your experience and the hours you can committ to. I would prefer someone who can work every weekend but will consider someone who can work three weekends a month if we are compatible and you can agree to a schedule 3 months in advance.
Background check will be run.
Physical evaluation by your doctor (or ours) is required.
We reserve the right to randomly test for drugs and alcohol.
We do not watch MTV or BET in our home and neither will you.

ReplyDeleteThe lady who posted this ad is very retarted. I hope she finds some one who can help her cause that what she needs.. If that was my wife I would leave her in a heart beat............

repost by anonymous
ok, I meant to also say, that lady who is offering $2.50 an hour? I am seriously considering emailing her and asking if HER family would survive on less than half the federal minimum wage.
ReplyDeleteI love how the one wanting someone to come and spend weekends at her house tries sounding so proper and official, but misspells simple words like "commit" and "dependent".
ReplyDeleteOr maybe I'm just a crazy obsessive-compulsive speller?? I just know that if I wrote an ad requiring so much from someone (which, to be honest, I think she's just being honest about what she expects.. which is obviously someone to do her parenting for her on the weekends... wonder if they have a nanny during the week as well?) I would ensure that my grammar and spelling were correct. And as an experienced nanny, such as the one she is looking for, I would be put off by someone speaking and writing with such condescension and lack of attention to detail at that, that I wouldn't respond.
But, like I said, maybe that's just me...
not just you Melissa----
ReplyDeleteGranted we all have typos here and there, but on something official like that---PROOFREAD for the love of Moses.... :)
Yes. LOTS of misspellings...
ReplyDeletephysically
competitive
Uh, you can just add those corrected versions to your list, melissa, lol.
And I'm with you laughing anon - people should really proofread anytime they put up an ad for a job.
Whew. I really thought I had a problem! :)
ReplyDeleteThat was my point, anon and nanny. I have typos out the woo ha over here, but on something that is ultimately going to be the first impression you give someone?? PROOFREAD!!
I swear, I should start a support group for grammar and spelling junkies like myself...
"My name is Melissa and I'm a spellagramaholic"
Chorus: "Hi, Melissa"
One more thing... What do you think she meant by nanny who does not "have her own agenda"? Like, a life? Or like, career goals? Or, worse yet, plans for her future?
ReplyDeleteOh, the horror!! A nanny with an agenda! :)
If I lived in New York I would totally interview with that woman just to see what she was like and ask ridiculous questions about her ad. Because I'm immature and childish like that. :)
Melissa, hehehe >:)
ReplyDeleteThe Playboy channel is presumably fine, though.
ReplyDeleteAlso, married mogul? May we assume that this is the husband? Didn't moguls go out in the 19th century along with smoking cigars in the office and wearing a top hat?
Comfortable in her own skin; last thing you want is one of those auto-flaying nannies.
And yes, these people, if they really cannot spell, should at least learn to use a spell-check.
We do not watch BET in our home with either but our damn nanny sneaks it on and our children are forever fashizziling their grammar.
ReplyDeleteDamn BET.
Have you asked your "damn" nanny to not have BET on in YOUR home?
ReplyDeleteIf so--- she isn't listening. Direct insubordination. Find a new nanny. I'm unemployed, don't watch BET, and can follow simple rules-- hire me.
IF not-- you have no right to bitch and call her your "damn" nanny. Grow a pair and ask her (or him) not to watch it. If she STILL doesn't listen, please refer to aforementioned advise.
Yes, I have asked my nanny not to watch anything that wasn't specifically child friendly and only during the time period directly before naptime or before dinner. The children get an hour of television per day. I have stressed to her what I thought were goo options, National Geographic, Animal Planet, hbo for kids, nickelodeon, cartoon network and pbs.
ReplyDeleteWith so many awful nannies out there, do I really fire the nanny who left the television tuned to channel BET?
I don't have a nanny but if I did, I would encourage them to have lots and lots of tv time preferably shows like Hannah Montana and reruns of Dawson's Creek which are educational and entertaining in my opinion. I would also be upset if she did not expose them to classic films such as This is Spinal Tap, Young Frankenstein and Billy Madison. Television is essential to the development of children and making them normal. And cool.
ReplyDeleteBut that's just my opinion.
umassslytherin,
ReplyDeleteyou can joke like that all you want. you're not pretty enough to marry money and too poor to hire a nanny on your own so it's kind of like saying, "if i were president, I would lower taxes".
how do you know what I look like? that's so creepy. :( and if I were president, I would have big parties with Michael Pitt and the cast of the Harry Potter movies.
ReplyDeleteThat would be way more important to me than lowering taxes. :)
OMG-- UMASS, Billy Madison is one of my faves!!! Just watched it last night :). LMAO--- You can help me shave my armpits :) LMAO
ReplyDelete"You gotta get out there and find the f-ing dog!!!!"
ReplyDeleteLove the literary analysis of The Puppy who lost His Way! With Miss Lippy smiling encouragingly at him through the whole thing!!! :)
you have great taste ltg!! :)
LOL.... Right! oh dear, Its cool to pee your panys. HEHE! i love adam sandler flicks! Have a great day Umass :)
ReplyDeleteI heart Billy Madison too... again, because I'm childish like that...
ReplyDelete"Shampoo is better. It cleans the hair. Conditioner is better, it leaves the hair silky and smooth..."
(Cue shampoo and conditioner fight)
I would vote for you, umass, as long as I get invited to the Pitt/ Potter party.
melissa,
ReplyDeletedone and done. :)
If you look at the actual ad the words are spelled right. It was misspelled by whoever transcribed the ad to this page.
ReplyDeleteI think it as a great ad. At least the nanny applying will know where he/she stands and what the rules are. So many times here I read that the family has unwritten rules or changed the rules midterm. Here it is all laid out. And nothing wrong with being fit enough to run with active boys!
Mama,
ReplyDeleteI actually looked at the ad via the link on this site (several times at that), as I would never want to accuse someone of making mistakes that were clearly not their own, and for sure, the words "physically", "competitive", and "dependent" are spelled incorrectly.
Perhaps you should take a look at the link again?
This woman is an idiot and snob. I would like to run her miserable ass over with my car!
ReplyDeleteMelissa, I think when she says she doesn't want a nanny with her 'own agenda', I think she means someone who might actually know more than her about raising kids. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI also think the MTV/BET comment is arrogant. There happen to be good programs on both channels, but it's easier to appear a snob, than to actually discern what might be acceptable for your kids. JMO
MTV and BET offer absolutely nothing that I would want my children or anyone else's kids to watch. TV can be educational, but not all TV is. Unless, of course, you want to use it to show kids exactly how you don't want them to behave! I know many parents who limit or forbid television in their homes and their children are happy and very well-adjusted.
ReplyDeleteHaving her own agenda is a little weird, but I think she means someone who is not looking for easy money without actually working. And who knows, maybe she had a bad experience with a nanny hitting on her husband in the past.
I think her tone is a bit condescending but that can easily happen on the Internet. I don't think this ad is the worst I've seen.
"I think her tone is a bit condescending but that can easily happen on the Internet."
ReplyDeleteYou said it, ABC/123! For instance, we all know that YOU manage to be condescending with complete ease!!!
heehee.
ReplyDeleteHAH!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, and you can most certainly tell a lot about a person by how they perceive the original post.
I'm with the majority here: this ad is simply ozzing with condescendence, and highly pretentious...and don't get me started on how many issues the original poster seems to posses regarding, well, pretty much every aspect of life. If she is that insecure about having another woman in her home (re: the husband comment. and the agenda comment), perhaps she should just raise her little darlings herself! ;)
It sounds to me that this lady has had a bad nanny and became extremely picky.
ReplyDeleteI really don't understand why its all that bad if the nanny smokes on her own time, as long as she's a live out and isnt around the kids. I don't think its okay to smoke around the children or even at your job at all, but why is it bad on your time off, besides the whole health thing, but for the employer?
Also...its common sense not to dress like a slut to your nanny job. and plain out curtesy to not put other ppl's kids online with out their permission...but sometimes the parents are okay with facebook because its a lot more secure then myspace and i know my employers love the fact that I care, they treat me like family and they said its fine. But know that not everyone is.
It just seems that this lady has had bad luck and comes from a morale home. She seems to have trust issues and probably will suck for the nanny who ends up tehre because it seems like if she'd fall short on any of this she'd be fired.
well...i just couldn't stand this one. i sent them an email saying their ad was gross and some other stuff. oh well.
ReplyDeleteYes And is the perfect example of a troll. There was no reason for you to say what you said about ABC/123. They didn't say anything bad to anyone in this post, just offered a different point of view, which I happen to agree with regarding the one ad in particular from Craigslist. As far as whatever ABC/123 may have said or done in the past, I thought it was the rule of this blog not to bring those things up later.
ReplyDeleteI personally would rather read a comment that is harsh or condescending that sticks to the topic rather than read the off-topic chatter about movies and actors.
to the poster formally known as asshole..ooops, I mean anonymous:
ReplyDeletethere are no hard and fast rules. i think they just prefer that no one get racist and whatnot. all other opinions are welcome. and it's really stupid of you to come out now and protect someone you know nothing about..they(abc) are the epitome of troll..and this is actually the first decent comment they've left...obviously someone is holding a grudge against them, and if you knew how ugly abc had been to other posters in the past, you wouldn't be so quick to protect them.. so, m.y.o.b., you know, if you don't mind!
Oh Puhleeze,
ReplyDeleteI have seen how ugly quite a few people have been here to each other and others, including but not limited to ABC/123, as I have been around here quite a while. The latest example of ugliness is your comment to me. Did you really feel it necessary to call me an asshole simply because you disagreed with me? How nice of you, thanks for that.
ok,ok..i'm sorry.
