Pino's Pizza on 7th Ave in Park Slope, NY

Received Wednesday, October 3, 2007
Bad nanny sighting - Park Slope. I was in Pino's Pizza on 7th Ave and 2nd Street. African-American nanny came in with an approx. 9 mo boy in an orange bugaboo stroller. Boy had blondish hair and a light blue shirt. Nanny was wearing grey sweatpants with sparkles on the sides and a striped shirt. She asked a stranger to watch the baby while she went into the bathroom. She was gone 3-5 minutes. The stranger was a nice looking older woman who was very sweet to the baby, but still, a stranger

  1. let me just stop everyone in their tracks, for anyone who wants to ask,

"how do we know this is a nanny"

    the answer is:
wearing grey sweatpants with sparkles on the sides

  2. 3:36, you're hilarious! only nannies wear sweatpants with sparkles on the side?! maybe if we got paid more to take care of your children we wouldn't have to wear sweatpants!

  3. Poor judgement, for leaving baby with a stranger, and for wearing grey sweatpants with sparkles.

  4. Poor judgement all around, on the nanny's part for leaving the baby with a stranger, and the employer's for not paying enough for the nanny to afford designer jeans.

  5. Maybe its those really expensive sweatpants with crystals. This chick should know something about those Leah Remini hoodies :D

  6. IDK, sounds like she really HAD to go--I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt here. Maybe that's why she was in the bathroom that long?

If it was a bathroom emergency, wouldn't it have been better for her not to take the baby in with her? I don't know that restaurant, so I don't know whether the bathroom was big enough. Plus maybe more hygienic?

She did show a little good judgment in choosing someone who looked trustworthy. I know it's hard to trust anyone these days...

  7. Oh my god 6:36. You can't trust ANYONE with your children these days, no matter how nice they look. I'd rather take the kid in the dirty bathroom with me and hold him on my lap while I shit my brains out, than have him kidnapped.

  8. First of all-all of you who made snide remarks about how the woman dresses are a--holes!

Secondly-not saying the nanny was right here-but, what do you suggest she had done instead of this? I live in Park slope and have been in that bathroom-it's teeny tiny.

  9. Are you saying the nanny was fat and maybe she couldn't fit into the restroom with the child?

  10. I would never leave a charge with a stranger. NEVER. Taking CARE of the of the charge when the parents are working is the Nanny's job. How would you explain to the parents if the child was abducted? I would fire her immediately.

  11. If the bathroom was too small, she needed to go somewhere else and find a bigger bathroom. If she couldn't wait then she should have asked someone to watch her stroller and taken the baby in with her. Sure it's a pain to use the bathroom while holding a baby, but it can be done.

  12. How do you know she was a stranger to the nanny, it is possible that they were familiar with each other. Then again, if you knew that, you wouldn't have been able to post your snarky comments now, would you?

  14. 8:27, let me help you out:
"YOU'RE" not YOUR. "TOO" not TO. "NOSEY" not NOESY.

    You're welcome.

So obviously the nanny is fat, ignorant, incapable AND needs anger management classes.

  16. I have a 2 year old and a 3 year old. I've had to go to the bathroom while out with them before. I would NEVER EVER EVER consider leaving them with a stranger. Even if they do loudly applause when I'm done going.. ("YEAH MOMMY! GOOD JOB! MOMMY GOES PEE PEE ON THE POTTY!!!")
The point is, ya make it work. You don't leave your kids with strangers.

  17. 9:28...just what I was going to say. I have two children under 3. No matter how bad I have to go, they go in the bathroom with me and in the stall with me. I would NEVER EVER leave them with anyone no matter how nice they looked. If anyone who was watching my kids did this, it woud be the last time they watched my kids.

  18. She shouldn't have left the child w/a total stranger, not even for a few seconds. I'd rather take the baby and squeeze into a stall (and I have) with the door half open, than leave the baby with a stranger.

Grey sweatpants with crystals! Some nerve.

  19. **that** super nanny would never have left her **charges** with a stranger no matter what.

  20. 2:59- maybe I'm an idiot, but I can't figure out who you are talking about.

  21. I squeezed into a tiny airplane bathrooom with a non-walking one-year-old while I was 4 months pregnant (and looking 6)and I am a plus-sized woman. I would never leave my child with anyone, even for a second.

  22. If the nanny could have walked 3 more short blocks to the B&N she could have wheeled the baby into the stall with her.

  23. 9:08pm, you sound like supermom. Airplane restrooms are so darn tiny. Rock on!

    ReplyDelete
  24. LOL, yeah, not easy! I'm certainly no supermom but I've had to squeeze into an airplane bathroom and change a very poopy diaper on a screaming, wiggly baby with a lot of turbulence happening. SO not fun!

  25. I am now a garndmother and watch my 21 month old grandson. My kids went with me to the bathroom and so does this guy. Even when we are home I don't trust him to be walking around the house unsupervised while I am in the bathroom. There is no excuse to leave a child with a stranger in a public place for any reason and I could care less what kind of sweatpants this nanny (or mom) had on.

  27. Wow, Cali mom! You should have gotten a medal after the turbulent poopy diaper + teeny restroom experience. It's a good thing that baby poop is not toxic, because I'd have died years ago.

1:37pm. I agree with you. It's better to bring the baby to the restroom than leave him with a a stranger or wandering. Toddlers are gifted with speed, and God knows they can do more things in one minute than many of us can.

I think its gone to Cali moms head already!!

  30. Nannies should go to the bathroom on their own time.

  31. You guys MUST be kidding! I'm a mother, and yes, sometimes I have to pee too--just like ALL women. And if I'm in a neighborhood "safe spot" (i.e., hard to get in and out of because of the crowds, and being seen) than I will leave my stroller with a "stranger." These "strangers" are what make up a community you dolts! The chance of a child being "snatched" in this situation is 1 in a 242,000. THe chance of your child being bullied in school without you knowing?.....Get real! Stop being so ignorantly judgemental!
