Where: The small gated playground for kids under 4 at Carroll Park
When: Today at around 12: 30 PM
Who: Your Nanny
What: Two white nannies, one in red-brown hair with a bun, no make up with a clean look to her, wore the denim jeans frayed and cut at the knees. other nanny #2 brown curled up hair, black flip flops, tan short pants, grey zipper shirt. They sat on a bench where I could hear them talking. Nanny 1, red hair was complaining about having no energy lately. Nanny 2 said about her new job that was killing her but she found a way to get some energy quick. Nanny 2 said she's started snorting Ritalin and Adderall, but never at the same time. She gives more description. She said it was like coke but free since she took them from "Cole". Don't know if that is how you spell it but thats how it sounded. "Cole". If he is one of your kids, maybe it is his medicine.
Why: I don't know why. They weren't talking loud but they weren't whispering none either. I told my boss about it to see if she knew them and she don't, so she suggested I put the information here.
the funny thing is that anyone would think this is uncommon.
ReplyDeleteThis happens all the time!
ReplyDeleteNot common at all. Non of the many nannies I know use controlled substances. Whatever happened to strong coffee and dark chocolate? I hope the parents find out soon because it is not fair to "Cole" that his nanny is taking his Ritalin.
ReplyDeleteI am curious 3:34 PM, and 4:20 PM, where are you located that this is common? I come into contact with a great many other nannies, and I have never heard of this. If she is stealing her charges prescription medication, that is extremely serious. I hope the parents see this.
ReplyDeleteNYC Nanny
Um this is a huge problem this nanny is using drugs, period. Ritalin is a drug that moms feel they need to give their kids, she is stealing a little boys happy pills. This is really wrong.
ReplyDeleteBoooooo!
ReplyDeleteTo the credit of the pharmaceutical companies, ADD and other childhood illnesses are being massively overdiagnosed. Bipolar disorder is diagnoses at a rate of 94 percent inaccuracy. How wonderful for a company to make money and for parents to medicate their children so they don't act like---------CHILDREN.
Booooooo!
The nanny is saving the child. Drugs are not for children.
Snorting ADHD drugs is well known. I work in a pharmacy and we get some prescriptions for those medications that were not signed by the Dr who is written on the prescription.
ReplyDelete640 ITA!!!
ReplyDeleteIn 10 yrs, doctors will prescribe some not yet heard of drug for a disease they have yet to name. It will essentially be restless leg syndrome in fetuses, thereby eliminiating mothers ever feeling their baby's kick.
Stop medicating the world.
ADD is a myth.
I agree with 6:40 and 8:15. WHY is a child under 4 being drugged up to the eyeballs? The parents should be fired.
ReplyDeleteThat's like saying it's uncommon for car salesmen or servers to abuse drugs. An entire group can not be generalized. I'm a nanny and I do drugs, but not while I'm at work. When I'm off work, I have nothing to do with children and am responsible only for myself, so I chose to do what I enjoy. My hobbies nothing to with my job, because my life is not defined by it. After a day at work, I leave and don't even think about my charges, just as some leave the office and its stresses behind. Just because I'm a nanny doesn't mean that I make socially-acceptable choices. Some parents also need to accept that nannying truly is a job; no one is going to love your children like you do. I clock in, I do what I have to, I clock out. Honestly, it just pays the bills. Rare is the individual that takes the job because they "love children," although that's what I say. I'd rather NOT, be chasing around kids and getting snot on my hands, but until I get my degree, it's easy money.
ReplyDeletewow, finally a VALID bad nanny sighting! Certainly worth posting and hopefully it will help expose this dangerous behavior to the people employing this nanny.
ReplyDeleteanonymous bozo at 844 pm-
ReplyDeleteunless you are the parent of each and every child detailed on this blog, then who are you to say, "finally a valid sighting".
are you new here, bozo?
i have seen plenty of sightings that would cause me great concern, others that make me angry and others that make me laugh.
8:28, you are not a nanny, you are a babysitter. I love my kids and I love my job and it is not "just to pay the bills" or to get me through college. I have a 4 year teaching degree, but I choose to nanny. Because I LOVE it, and I love the family I work for.
ReplyDeletePlease stop lying at interviews so those of us who are actually professionals can find a good position. Furthermore, if your job is just "easy money," then you are not doing a very good job. My job is not easy by a long shot, but it is more rewarding than any other career I can think of. Go find a job you can say that about, and maybe you won't feel the need to do drugs in your free time.
8:28, I hope you decide to find a job that suits you much better than childcare. Might I suggest stripper, hooker, or drug dealer? Those folks are cold, don't think about their clients when they aren't around, and don't care about being socially acceptable.
ReplyDeleteOf course, snot would be the least of your worries then, but heck...at least you won't have to lie about your true feelings for your clients, and random drug tests would mean nothing.
What do you plan to be when you grow up and leave school? A lawyer? A sports agent? Some other cold-blooded profession?
Blech... I feel slimy just thinking about you and your attitude.
for asswipe at 844:
ReplyDeleteYou are a dunce.
Where do all you fools come from?
Whats wrong with being a lawyer? At least its a job where you can make money. How many poor or struggling lawyers do you know? How many struggling or poor nannies/babysitters do you know? I am sure alot more.
ReplyDelete9:32: Ding, ding, ding.
ReplyDelete8:28
ReplyDeleteI hope you are graduating soon, so you can move on. You sound like a horrible baby sitter. (As has been said already, you are NOT a nanny.)
sorry 828-
ReplyDelete"Rare is the individual that takes the job because they "love children," although that's what I say"
YOU sound more like an anti mommy, sanctimonious bitch of a sahm trying to make her point passive agressively.
It isn't EASY MONEY if you do the job correctly like a real nanny will. And no, you don't show up one day and proclaim to love a child but when you stay with a family for a period of time and guide those children in their development and share in their joys and accomplishments, yes- you can grow to love them. And anyone who can't- doesn't have a heart.
I agree with everyone who has already said, if it's easy, you're not doing the job the way it should be done.
ReplyDelete8:28, you sound like either a horrid babysitter, or some pissy person with a grudge against nannies, or parents who employ them.
ReplyDeleteI started as a nanny years ago, because I absolutely LOVE children.
And I can honestly say I have come to LOVE every child I have ever cared for, probably not like they where my own children, but as much as humanly possible.
You are just someone wanting to make all nannies sound bad.
Some of you people are living in la-la land. In a perfect world nannies would all be perfect and LOVE thier jobs. At least 8:28 is speaking the truth so maybe some of you will realize that in the real world this is very common. I know some of these nannies myself. Drugs are everywhere and sometimes are being used by the people you least suspect. Like your neighbor, your lawyer, your nanny, or your HUSBAND.
ReplyDelete3:31, I agree. Drugs are everywhere and some nannies are awful and think its okay to do drugs on their off time. I completely disagree, I've seen cases were drugs someone did yesterday start to effect them somehow today.
ReplyDeleteWhich is why I was perfectly okay with being randomly drug tested by the first family I nannied for. I wasn't even warned they would randomly test, one day the mom asked me to go out with her and her son, and took me to the drug testing office. So many nannies throw hissy fits over this and say its them not trusting you, to me its parents double checking for their kids safety.
3:31 AM
ReplyDeleteYou are right in that there are many women being hired to care for children who are like 8:28. They are not professional nannies, don't give a damn about the children, and use drugs. If only parents had higher standards for the care of their children, rather than going for the cheapest, most flexible, most convenient hire who is willing to work off the books.
"...whispering none" and "...to see if she knew them and she don't?"
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a very bad nanny sighting, but I would never hire someone to care for my children who speaks or writes as poorly as this OP.
And don't pull this "English as a second language" crap either. She clearly speaks English as her first language, just in a way that shows her lack of education, not to mention class. Not a good example for developing children.
Whats wrong with being a lawyer? At least its a job where you can make money. How many poor or struggling lawyers do you know? How many struggling or poor nannies/babysitters do you know? I am sure alot more.
ReplyDelete9:55 PM -
Nothing is wrong with being a lawyer. Lawyers are needed, although many of them are purely money driven bottom feeders. Oddly, the lawyers who take pro bono cases, and aren't all about the almighty $ seem to be generally happier people.
You might want to consider though that money isn't the be-all and end-all of career choice. I bet there are some very happy nannies who are "poor" and "struggling" when compared with lawyers, but maybe they like their lives and enjoy their careers a WHOLE lot more than the wealthy lawyer?
And regardless, anyone who works with kids and is as cold as the above sitter isn't someone who needs to be around kids.
And drug using nannies/lawyers/whoever are to be pitied, especially if they use to get away from the issues they have with how they make money.
As much as I'd like to hate lawyers, I give them credit for being brilliant human beings. They put together a killer pre-nup.
