This happened today, (8/8) at approx 9:30 AM. Nanny is mid-20s, heavy set, with long brown hair and Russian I believe. Little boy is adorable with dark blonde curly hair, looks to be around 18-24 months old. Nanny didn't say a single word to the box who was on a swing. She was on another swing talking on the phone. After about 15 minutes I went over and asked him if he wanted a push (my daughter was next to him). He smiled and reached out for me. She didn't even flinch that someone was talking to the child. He didn't seem to have words yet (probably because the nanny doesn't speak to him) and he was craving attention (I think if I had picked him up he would of gone home with me!) It's totally heartbreaking - he is adorable and she obviously doesn't care to even try to interact. If you know of anyone in the Denver area who fits this description PLEASE pass it on since I don't know how many people from Denver come on this site!
There are so many nannies out there like this. Not exactly abuse, but definitely not engaging or taking care of a child like his parents probably do. This is always a risk that parents must consider when putting their children in the care of others. Usually, if the parent picks up on his childs actions, whether the child talks or not, can tell the parents a lot. I work for a family now who told me when I started that when they leave each day, the baby will scream and cry for a long time. We found out that the baby only did that with the old nanny, because she ignored him and didn't tend to him. Now each day he loves when I come in the morning and never cries when Mom and Dad leave! Parents... listen to your kids, their actions speak louder than words!!!
ReplyDelete1. You have no idea how many words he has. I mean really, you can tell how many words are in a child's vocabulary from that limited interaction? You must be psychic.
ReplyDelete2. If I were going to entrust my child to another person to care for, I would expect that they would not do as good of a job as me. If you let others raise your children, you certainly can't complain if they make a phone call.
3. You shouldn't be interacting with other children on the playground. Face it, you wanted to snoop on the nanny and create a story for this horrible blog.
OR she pushed and interacted with the child on the swing next to her and his sadness affected her.
ReplyDeleteThe end.
again, her kid was on the swings and she was pushing her kid.
I think that many nannies do a better job of taking care of the children than the parents. But since nannying is a job, you have every right to expect to have someone do their job correctly. I would guess that the many jobs do not allow for excessive personal phonecalls on the job. I would also suspect, although I am not certain but I would guess that interacting with the child is part of the nanny job description.
ReplyDeleteJust a hunch, Miss 1-2-3.
I was the original poster and this child broke my heart. Believe me, I have better things to do than make stuff up for this blog. I work full time and was at the park stealing a few minutes with my daughter. When I talked to my nanny about this she says she has seen this nanny with her charge at the park several times and always the same thing. She said the mom was there once and the nanny said they were having a great time.
ReplyDeleterelax op. We understand you.
ReplyDeleteSome people hate the blog.
Only thing weird about that, is I don't troll blogs I hate.
I mean there are billions of them out there. Pick another.
Many people LOVE the blog, the idea, the design and even the comments. So don't be dissuaded.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is the parents of that child most likely do not realize how unenthralled the nanny is with her job and her charge. That's unfortunate. Maybe your post will change that.
I wish with all my heart that persons who are not into children would not take these jobs.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, a lot of these people pay their nannies like $8 an hour...what do they expect?
ReplyDeleteIf you break it down I make about 3 dollars an hour... If you dont like your pay then get a new job dont slack on the one you currently have, especially when its a young child whos being punished by it. Money means nothing. Its called work ethic.
ReplyDeleteAs if a parent never takes a personal call while parenting or ever gets distracted. There are abusive and neglectful nannies out there for sure, but some of this stuff is just trivial. When a person spends 8 hours with a kid, they aren't always going to be plugged in, sometimes you need a mental break. If the kid is safe and occupied, it's okay to not always be 100% perfect and take a personal breather. It just is crazy to expect a nanny to perform in ways that even parents don't.
ReplyDeletenanny laycee if i were you i would have kept that a secret. nannies like you make it hard for the rest of us to ask for a better wage when you are willing to do it for basically nothing. and please stop lying......if you are making $3 an hour you aren't doing crap during the day!
ReplyDelete9:13 you are right. it seems like people expect nannies to do things the parents themselves cant (and WONT!!) even do. im not saying this gives a nanny a right to be on the phone all day, but really you dont know if she was taking an urgent call and this was the first time she took her eyes off him all day.
OP: what was YOUR child doing while you were "saving" the one you felt so bad for? you had no business interacting with someone elses child anyway. you are a stranger. mind your own business.
Nanny Laycee, you do realize that the men I pick up at home depot to hose off the porch before a party make $10 an hour. And won't work for less. What the F is wrong with you?
ReplyDelete10:23 what the F is wrong with you? Picking up illegal aliens at Home Depot and bringing them to your house where, I presume, since you are on this blog, you have small children living? Why don't you stop being so cheap and irresponsible and get legit workers? If you have a nanny, I'll bet you have a gardener who can do it.
ReplyDeletePoor kid. Idiot nanny.
ReplyDeleteYou know what I hope?
ReplyDeleteI hope all the spoiled, immoral jerks who hire illegal nannies get audited and thrown in prison! I hope all the illegal nannies who ignore their charges and picnic all day in the park are detained and deported.
I hope all the decent people who hire legal nannies are given a tax break.
And I hope all the legal nannies who CARE for their charges are given the respect they deserve---and a RAISE!
10:23PM, picking up strangers at Home Depot to hose down your porch is risky business. Why don't you and Laycee get to know each other, and maybe she will hose down your porch for $7 more than she is earning.
ReplyDeletelaycee are you for real. i think youre lying or just plain stupid cause the last time i checked the minimum wage was nearly $6.
ReplyDeleteno nanny works for that kind of pay laycee, you are a faker and a big fat liar or you are illegal and even illegals work for a lot of money at least $10 an hour
ReplyDeletekelly LOL
ReplyDeleteBetter yet, 10:23....hose off your own damn porch. How lazy are you???? Jeez!
ReplyDeletelaycee...either you are nuts or you are lying. I can't get the teenage girl from my church nursery to watch my kids (at her house, not church) for less than $8! My 15-year-old niece watches two children, in her home, every other saturday for about 6 hours and gets $50 a day.
ReplyDeleteYou could answer phones or work at McDonald's or pick aluminum cans out of the trash and make way more than $3 an hour.
Yes, something is awry.
ReplyDeleteI have a mother's helper type work on weekends. She is a high junior in Harrison, NY. $15 per hour.
It's true folks, but I suppose it could depend on where you live. There are many people I know who employ, and are employed for very little money. I see ads all the time for full time childcare for toddlers for 150-200 a week. That averages out between $3.75-$5.00 an hour, more if the nanny works more than 40 hours. I most certainly would not work for anything less than a qualified, experienced, loving nanny would (and I don't) but trust me, there are many people out there who work for these wages for many different reasons.. and usually, off the books.
ReplyDeleteI oay my nanny $15.00/hour plus overtime, plus $50.00 a day for travel plus $100.00 when she stays overnight, plus 1/2 her health insurance, holiday bonuses etc. And She is worth every penny. These are out CHILDREN! What could be more important??
ReplyDeleteLaycee, I don't believe you are a nanny. You are a mom with a poorly paid nanny.
ReplyDelete9:47 you are a smart mom. Keep your nanny happy! Now if only you could rub off on some of the horrible cheap employers I have come across!
