Demarest Park in Demarest NJ

Received Friday, July 20, 2007
There is an African-American nanny with an accent (like Jamaican or somewhere in that region) who takes care of twins, a boy and a girl, who are about 20 months old. The boy is blind. The nanny today attacked a mother at the park who she accused of calling the cops on her for her inappropriate treatment of the twins. The mom had no idea what she was talking about, but did say later that she had seen this nanny before at the park and that she wasn't surprised the cops had been called. In fact, she had been asking around if anyone knew the twins. The lady backed off after the mother denied calling the cops, but the whole exchange frightened everyone a bit. Hopefully someone can find the parents of these twins. Not sure why the cops didn't, or if the parents kept the lady anyway .... but they shouldn't! The kids are very blonde, the girl had a JCC t-shirt on, and they had a black Graco double stroller, back to front.

Update 07/22/07 OP here. I spoke to the police in town and when they talked to the nanny, they also alerted the parents. For whatever reason, the parents did not fire the nanny. I asked the police to please contact the parents and let them know that she had verbally attacked a woman at the park and that they really should get rid of the nanny. We'll see ... They also asked me to please call them if I ever see her doing anything at all, though I think she's come after me if I did!

  1. This is why I can't stand the overly PC descriptions people feel pressured to use on this site:
"African-American nanny with an accent (like Jamaican or somewhere in that region)" If she has a Carribean accent, she's not American! And she's not African. She's Jamaican. Jeez.
Regardless, what the heck was this about? The nanny actually attacked someone? Because this person may have reported her to the police for child abuse? What a winner. God I hope this nanny gets the boot ASAP. If she touched the other woman I hope the police were called. Get an official record started on her behavior.
These twins sound readily identifiable. I hope the parents hear about this soon.

  2. She may not be Jamaican, there are lots of other islands around there with similar accents ... but I do agree with you about the rest. I hope someone can identify these twins and get the parents' attention!

  3. I'm with JMT for once. The AA term is thrown around as if all Blacks are African Americans, which is not true.

BUT, you can have a Jamaican accent and be American. If she has citizenship, that'll technically cover it. And most Jamaicans are of West African descent.

White Americans could stand to brush up on these sort of things.

  4. Oh, and hope this loose cannon gets caught. To say that she's bad news would be an understatement.

  5. JMT and esme...I was just coming on to say just the same thing about her being AA, but Jamaican.

This woman does not need to be a nanny, however.

  6. I think you're really splitting hairs here. If she said black with an island accent she'd get critcized too. She's not obviously Jamaican, lots of those carribean islands have people with the same accent. But that's SO beside the point. Someone help find these parents!

  7. Wasn't there a bad nanny sighting regarding twins before on this blog? I may be wrong, but it seems as though there was.

  8. 9:16...How about "Dark Complection with an accent?"

  9. same nanny?
I know it was the same park with twins and a nanny who pulled at the children.
    What is going on here.

  10. What happened was she abusing the children and one of the mothers called the police? If so those poor kids I feel so sorry for them. Imagine being blind and your just looking for comfort from your caregiver and instead they are rough with you and show no feelings. This posting makes me want to cry just thinking of these kids, if they are being neglected.

Who cares where she is from, the point is the kids welfare

  11. 10:22, agree one hounder percent!

I don't give a crap about where this abusive pile of cow dung is from...someone please recognize the poor twins and contact their parents!

  12. why is there a discussion on the race of the nanny. isnt this about the kids or did i miss something here. whatever her nationality or oclor, she was wrong, simple!

  13. Her race and accent will aid in identifying her. Lord knows there is no shortage of overweight nannies.

  14. Did you know that there are a lot of Chinese who emigrated to Jamaica? Chin is a common last name there. There was a Chinese-Jamaican festival in Queens recently to celebrate that sub-culture who moved to New York. It's true that Americans need to open up their awareness that there are pockets of other nationalities living in other countries around the world. Lots of "hyphenates". The more we learn, the more we realize how much we don't know.

  15. Well then I guess I'm not white. I must be Caucasion-Irish-German-American Indian-French-American.

We generalize people, that's what we do. The OP obviously had the best of intentions with reporting this sighting, so lay off it a little ok? For future reference is it ok to say "She was black"? Because dark complexion could mean really really tan. Obviously AA is the most "nice" thing people can say without others jumping down their neck.

  16. JMT:

Yes, I know Chinese people immigrated there. Many types of people voluntarily came to work the sugar plantations in the mid-1800's.

Still, 90% of Jamaicans are of West African descent. That is my only point.

  17. The last sighting from the archives:

    Park in Demarest, NJ
    Received Friday, July 13, 2007

I saw twins, I think boy/girl, very blonde, about 18mo to 2yo with a big heavy nanny, black with an island accent at the park in Demarest, NJ the past few afternoons around 4pm. She is very impatient, physically rough with the kids (ie pick them up and carrying them by their arm) and yells a lot. Kids cry a lot. She seems to pick on the boy more and ignores the girl from what I saw. Please get rid of your nanny.

Pick on the BLIND boymore? WTF? And she ignores the girl? I have to say that this horrible woman needs a pitchfork up her ass.

    Where are these parents?

Any thoughts on how we can alert them?

  18. OP:

How do you know that the boy is blind?

    ReplyDelete
  19. When she was yelling at the mom for calling the cops on her, she said the boy was blind, was going on about how you have to talk to/deal with blind kids differently and she didn't understand. Also once she said it, it was obvious. His eyes were closed and sort of sunken in a little bit.

  20. So they way to handle a blind boy in her opinion is to pull on him and yell at him? And if she's not doing that, then she ignores him?

Interesting. I was just wondering if he's blind or somewhat visually impaired.

  21. This is very frightening. Someone needs to follow her home then send a letter to the parents!

  28. What kind of a monster would mistreat a blind child. It makes me so sad that I want to cry.

    I can't imagine it is.
