Carl Schurz Playground in NYC

Received Wednesday, July 25, 2007
Absurd sighting. About an hour ago (830 AM on 7/25) Not necessarily bad but I saw your nanny none the less. Your nanny is Asian, medium complexion, long, layered hair with blond highlights, thin, petite and was arrived at the playground this morning wearing shorts and wedge shoes that were about 5" high. The sandals had a tie up strap and the nanny also wore a scoop neck tan & white striped summer weight sweater. The nanny was taking care of a little boy who had very light skin, brown eyes and straight, white hair. She wasn't sitting on the sidelines but following him as he crawled and climbed but she lost her footing at least 4 times. Two of the times she was holding his feet or lifting him up. This is just an accident waiting to happen. I know this isn't "bad". Frankly, it was kind of comical.

  1. nannies should never wear unsafe shoes. it is just common sense.

  2. That would have been a great photo!

  3. nanny should never wear unsafe shoes...?

maybe if you wore shoes like that, your husband would be banging you- instead of the nenny.

    witch.

  4. Huh? What's the problem here? The nanny was wearing high heels? Oh horrors!

  5. I don't get nannies with high heels. I don't get the long-ass finger nails either.

  6. 10:38, your comments are ridiculous. In case you really didn't know, a qualified professional babysitter would know better than to wear such shoes, and very long fingernails, because these things prevent a person from doing their job! The job is to run, play, and jump around with children, do messy art projects, dig and play in the sand with children, and prepare children's meals. For safety's sake, babysitters may also have to quickly run after a child who runs astray. (Even older children need a sitter who wears sneakers or "active" shoes.) Heels and crazy long fingernails prevent sitters from fulfilling their responsibilities adequately.

Heels and such fingernails are always frowned upon by employers.
Some of the employers may be too timid to tell you, but it's true.

I wuld love to agree with you, but surely these nannies interview with their long nails with palm tree decals on them, no? I myself would NEVER hire such a tacky individual. Not just for safety (that's paramount), but because I just couldn't deal with the visual on a daily basis.

  8. My employer was the one who bought me my first pair of high heels... It think its mostly on a siuational basis. I of course dont wear them while working, more so for my own comfort...
My money is on the fact that this was probably her first (and last) time wearing such shoes... No one likes to trip in front of others.

    10:38... why so hostile?

I've bought my nanny high heels too, but NOT to wear to work.

    Common sense!

  10. 10:38,
I made the first comment about unsafe shoes.
    You sound mental.
    FYI I don't have a nanny, I am one.
And I sometimes wish my husband had some nanny to bang then maybe he would leave me alone for once so I can read my damn Harry Potter book.
    Peace out.

  11. So what she was wearing heels. Okay maybe, she wasn't thinking about it. Maybe tomorrow she will be wearing sneakers. At least it sounds like she takes care of herself, dressing nice. Not like some moms and nannies that go out in public looking like they just rolled out of bed.

  12. What is to debate here?
This wasn't even a BAD nanny sighting. The blog is called I SAW YOUR NANNY. And any asshat that wears 5" heels to a playground deserves to fall flat on her face a'la Beyonce.

Stop debating the sighting. How about suggestions for good shoe wear? Not everything is a damn debate. Some things just are!

  13. What is an asshat, exactly? Too funny!!

Good shoewear: I love Naot Footwear. They are super comfortable and have nice looking styles, as well as some that are too Birkinstock-esque.

Anyone else have ideas for brands of footwear that are both comfortable and nice looking?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm a fan of my Puma's.... and nikes are always confortable... But being in Florida we for the most part all live in flip flops.

    I have a question...
Are there any moms out there that make their nannies wear some sort of uniform?

    ReplyDelete
  15. It's not the most interesting debate I've ever heard, but I'll take a stab at it for the sake of boredom...
It's really not safe for childcare providers to wear heels, not just for their own safety, (which is important since they are taking care of kids and if they were to fall, their charge would be at the very least be scared especially if they were an infant/toddler and at the worst unattended while they are lying flat on their face) but for the child's safety as well.
Are you folks really saying that you would want a nanny carrying around your baby or toddler wearing 5 inch heels, as long as she "takes good care of herself?"
That's pretty insane if you ask me.
Asking your nanny to wear a uniform is insane as well. However as a parent I would certainly let my nanny know that heels were not appropriate for the playground or anywhere she is chasing after my tot. Call me crazy...

  16. Why are these employers buying nannies high heels? That is an odd gift!

Well put. If you don't dress appropriately to be active in the playground it shows that you don't take your responsibilities seriously. If you are going someplace after work, you can bring your Manolos and change.

  19. Nope, I'm single, I can blow my salary on frivolous fashion.

  20. Good for you.
I once had a gf in NY that was fired after working for the family for 7 flawless months. Her crime? Her boss decided that she was paying her too much money. After all, she would go shopping on weekends and blow nearly all her salary in the city. (She was a live-in).
Some people are just C C CRAZY.

  21. People who live in fear of the help 'getting a leg up on them' are only demonstrating their own lack of self esteem.
I think the word I am looking for is pathetic.

  22. Joyce,
Truer words have never been spoken on this blog. I work for a drop dead georgous, single mother of two who treats everyone she meets with kindness and respect. She happens to have more money in the bank than I could count in my lifetime but she is at all times cool, collected and in touch with the reality of the world. She is the kind of person everyone wants to know because she just has that sheen to her. She would never talk down to anyone, ever. She has taught me alot about class- by example.

  24. I'm betting this woman was probably watching the child for a friend or something and is probably not a nanny.

    ReplyDelete
  25. "me love you long time"...

And now, let's make fun of the Asian people. We've already done a number on black and hispanic people. I knew it was only a matter of time before Asians are made fun of.

  26. You saw a nanny...and the nanny was wearing high heels. Okay.

  27. fyi: (from Wikipedia) Asshat is a slightly trendier and less severe variation of asshole, graphically describing someone who has his “head up his own ass” (i.e., not knowing what’s going on): one is wearing one’s ass for a hat. A more modern usage of asshat describes a person doing something stupid, and can apply to anyone: “The boss is up to asshattery because he broke the computer even though he knew he was doing the wrong thing.” This meaning was popularized by Something Awful character Jeff K.

  28. Myself, I prefer the more genteel term, asswipe.

  29. God, you yentas really need a new topic.

I *doubt* she lost her footing "4 times". MAYBE she stumbled once; but 4 times would just be soooo scandalous!

The OP is clearly jealous of a petite, fashion-conscious young girl.

  30. Oh my God. The accusations, insults, and let's not forget the throwing in of the race card (Asians now being made fun of - hello - that's the name of a song "me love you long time" - this is not making fun of Asians. You people get so far off topic, it's scary and stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  31. "Me love yoy long time" is actually making fun of Vietamese people and yes it was in a rap song but came from a scene in the movie "Full Metal Jacket", where a Vietnamese hooker says it to a US soldier. So yes it is very derogatory to use it in prefrence to a Asian woman...you asshat.

  32. I am a nanny living in the always warm Southern California area. I wear flip flops 99% of the time. Tennis shoes on the rare occasion it rains. Is that bad? Would any Mom say flip flops are not appropriate for work?

    ReplyDelete
  33. 1:41,
Yes it is making fun of asians.
You are ignorant. Your parents raised an ignorant toe rag.

    ReplyDelete
  34. My nanny has hairy toes, yellow toenails and crackly heels that shed all over my living room. Yet, she has no shame in jamming those suckers in the most festive and ornate of flip flops.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 101,
    give us a new topic.

  36. 342 I can't believe you would talk about me like that

  37. I imagine this is what the nanny must have looked like:

  38. OH 1:32! I am suffering from Post-Potter Depression! I can't believe it's over... I am heartsick. Seriously.

And asshat = butt bonnet = tuchus turban

    ReplyDelete
  39. jmt:
lol, butt bonnet. Did you make it up?

    ReplyDelete
  40. JMT:
lmao. the laughing in the studio is what gets me.

yes, the nanny probably never recovered after she lost her footing the first time!

    ReplyDelete
  41. 3:34, I would say that flip flops are not appropriate for work if you're a nanny and your work surely involves playing with children both small and larger. They are not good for running, or kicking, or playing kickball or soccer.

    ReplyDelete
  42. 8:58 In Southern California, we live in flip flops and Ugghs pretty much year round. Of course you can run in flip flops and we do play soccer. If we were playing a true technical game of soccer, we'd don tennies, but who really gets into a game that seriously with their charges. Also, tennies are a pain in the arse at the beach.

    ReplyDelete
  43. that fall was better than the one Beyonce took the other day and much, much better than the one Miss USA took in the Miss Universe contest. Loved it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yes I claim butt bonnet and tuchus turban.
And the laughing in the studio got me going too. I was wheezing! Then I read this sighting and I immediately imagined some ridiculous woman trying to be all cool and sexy in her five inch heels why being a nanny! ROTFL.

    ReplyDelete
  45. WHILE that is, not WHY.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yeah, she shoulda left her CFMP's at home that day.
