Today (6/6) at a park on Wilson Street in Bungalow Heaven, a little boy kept asking me if I would put him in the swing. When I asked where his mom or nanny was, he pointed to "Marta," who was busy eating her lunch and socializing with her other nanny friends about 15 yards away. At the same time, his sister was screaming wildly in her stroller while the nanny ignored her and continued to eat. I walked over there to see if she could help the little boy with the swing, only then did she acknowledge the screaming girl. She threw a blanket on her stroller and said she needed to sleep and continued to ignore her. The little boy continued to ask me to help with all activities at the park, because Marta continued to socialize with her friends the entire hour I was there.
A little better description of all involved would be nice. While I am sure the mom knows her nanny's name, others who may know more of this nanny or children may not.
ReplyDeleteanother typical nanny slug
ReplyDeleteYes, please provide physical discriptions. The wrong Marta may be blamed for this.
ReplyDeletemaybe, but that's a very big help to have the name of the nanny. Hopefully, Marta's not too smarta and gets herself caught and canned.
ReplyDeleteThis particular 'Marta' sounds like a jerk! How is ths baby supposed to sleep when 'Marta' is having tons of fun yapping with her bench buddies. It is not hard to stroll the stroller to where the baby swings are (not in front of the swings of course), and put the older kid in the swing.
ReplyDeleteI noticed a lot of sightings lately of babies screaming in strollers and left to cry. The ones that get to me the most are the two where the nanny had thrown her denim jacket and, in this case, a blanket, over the stroller. Maybe I'm claustrophobic, but that doesn't sound soothing to me. No air, dark, and the child keeps screaming for attention. *Shudder*
ReplyDeleteThis sounds bad, but I have to ask - how long did you observe the situation? It's one thing if the nanny was ignoring the kids for a long period of time. But what if it was the first break she had all day? Even nannies need to take a load off and eat. I am a nanny and I have to play devil's advocate. Once, a little boy had me push him in the swing for half an hour! After I stopped because I was tired, he cried for others to push him. If you just walked up at that moment and saw me resting, I would have looked bad.
ReplyDeleteTo clarify, I was at the park for about an hour and this is how long she socialized with her friends and ignored the kids.
ReplyDeleteThe boy kept asking me and my friend to help him at the park. Not just once, but numerous times. Even my elderly grandparents who had joined us at the park were horrified by the situation.
Marta is in her late 30's to early 40's; dark complexion; around 5'5, medium build. I think the boy's name is "Adrian" who is 3 1/2 years old.
I posted this because if this were my child I would want to know. I hope the wrong "Marta" doesn't get into trouble.
You should all import you nannies from Texas, while there are a couple of bad apples I would say 9 out of 10 of us are great:)Though generally we are treated wonderfully by our employers so maybe that's the difference.
ReplyDeleteThis post is pretty old, but in case people are checking it from time to time to see if this has circled back to the family, I can tell you that I know Marta, my children have spent many hours playing with the children, and I've spent many shooting the breeze with their mom at that park. I want to assure you that what you saw was entirely out of context.
ReplyDeleteBy odd coincidence, I know for sure I was there that day because it was my daughter's birthday, and we brought treats to the park for the kids' friends, including Adrian and his sister. Just to frame it up for you so you and other readers know what was going on: it was almost 100 degrees that day. Adrian is super sweet but a whirlwind of energy and seemingly unaffected by heat. The swings at that park are completely unshaded. I'm pretty sure that was why no one wanted to push him on the swing that day. As for his sister, she was going through a phase about then where she would have epic meltdowns and the only people who could come near her were Marta and mom. Marta hardly ever had that little girl off her hip. You probably got there about the time she decided to take a break, and since she couldn't pass the girl on to another nanny while she ate, well, what should she do? Going home might be one answer, but then she has Mr Energy bouncing off the walls at home.
Honestly, she's a nice person and a good nanny, and the mother has always said how grateful they are to have her. I think you just saw a particularly trying day. I hope it makes you feel better that these kids aren't neglected!
