Tues. 5/1 at around 6-7p on the M104 there was a nanny w/2 girls (5ish & 10ish yr old). The nanny let a strange man stroke and fondle the 5yr old's hair. I am a grandmother and I can tell you this is not appropriate behavior. I and several other people on the bus told nanny to please take the child to sit with her. The nanny was sitting with the 10 yr old. Away from the five year old. The strange man was not with them. We found this out because a person on the bus asked if they were related, he said no, he was just being "friendly". The nanny was wearing a uniform of some sort, light blue pants/top. They got off the bus at 82nd and Broadway. If you this sounds familiar to you, please please say something to the mother. This woman should not be watching children. She is Hispanic/maybe even Filipino (she spoke to us in English/Spanish).
Are you kidding me? If not, I recommend a public stoning for that sad excuse for a nanny. She's just as sick (or dumb) as the perv.
ReplyDeleteThat is so ridiculous! That is like asking this man to molest this child. I cannot believe anyone would allow a stranger to do that.
ReplyDeleteThat is really creepy! What was the little girl doing while this was going on?
ReplyDeleteAnd when the man said he was just being "friendly"-what did you say to let him know to stop doing that?
ReplyDeleteA critical point to consider is that the world today is a very different place, especially in this post 9/11 era. It is important to have a conversation with your CCP about safety and what to do in an emergency. What may seem like common sense to you (ie., “do not talk to strangers”) may not be so obvious to others. It certainly is not appropriate to allow a stranger to touch a child, and the CCP should have known that and been more protective of the child. One can never be too cautious. The more educated and informed a CCP is about this subject, the better prepared she will be to handle different situations that will arise.
ReplyDeleteThis is terrible!!What a sad and horrible sighting, poor child, this woman should be fired and reported. I have a nanny and she is under serious instructions not to get into conversations with strange men, and certainly she would not allow any strange men to be "friendly" with my baby!! I am sure I am stereotyping when I consider all lone and strange men to be potential perverts but I prefer to be safe than sorry - I may be able to make a judgement call but my nanny should not be expected to.
ReplyDeleteWhat in the world does this have to do with the "post 9/11 world"? Child molesters have been around since the beginning of time. 9/11 did nothing to change or increase that. Allowing a strange man to touch a child in this manner is inappropriate, but it was just as inapprpriate on Sept. 10, 2001. I really hate seeing the phrase "post-9/11" used in situations where it is totally inapplicable.
ReplyDeleteAny "CCP" who doesn't know this behavior is inappropriate has no business taking care of children. Even if the man was harmless, he should not have been touching this child. The nanny should have stopped it immediately.
This CCP thing is going to cause me to never return to this blog.
ReplyDeleteCall a spade a spade. And if it happens to be a club or jack, so what.
Pretensios. YES! YES!
Boooooooooooooooooo
Enough about the CCP phrase. Use it or not, it's up to you. I think the two moms, the non-working one and the other are adding valuable commentary here. Everyone's opinions should be respected, but I'll tell you this from experience, child molesters are "opportunistic" and this was probably a case of that. Do NOT provide such an opportunity ever, at all costs. Children and nannies should be instructed about stranger danger and know exactly how to PREVENT situations such as this from happening in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI get all wierd even when old men at the grocery store with their wives want to stop and look at my charges who are 1 and 3. i would probably use some good old karate chops with this guy and make it impossible for him to think of anything sexual for awhile. my girls are my world, even if i didn't give birth to them, so you mess with them, i'll mess with you.
ReplyDeletewho do you think you are to sit in judgment of these pour nannies?
ReplyDeleteI didn't see where the nanny was being judged here, just her ability to properly care for children.
ReplyDeletehow would you like me to show up at your place of business and judge you?
ReplyDeleteOh please, this is not about judging the nannies, it's about keeping kids safe! This is obviously a case where a child was in danger and being touched by a strange man! That is not okay! Place the blame where it lies. Sometimes it's not the nanny, but this is a clear case where the nanny is the one at fault. If you don't want to read anything about bad nannies, then don't come to this site.
ReplyDeletePUs need to talk to their CCPs and children about stranger interaction. It is a constant problem, because many older people, both men and women, try to talk to children in public places. Mostly they are friendly, and probably a little lonely, but what do you teach a child? PUs need to think about how they want this handled.
ReplyDelete6:29:
ReplyDeleteSo does that mean you think the nanny was violated in some way because she got caught being a deadbeat loser?
Public stoning!
What the fuck is a pu?
ReplyDeleteand ccp? what is the CHiPs?
Stupid.
Ugh, WM and SAHM, I might take you seriously if you didn't come across in such a know-it-all, condescending tone. Who do you think you're talking to? Most of us are conscientious moms or nannies who don't really need to be lectured to by you.
ReplyDeleteI hope the parents of these little girls read this site. And good for you, OP, and others on the bus for intervening.
The working mom and her friend are just trying to be helpful.
ReplyDeletelove the working mom & her friend.
ReplyDeletenot loving their "catch phrases".
but gee,
ReplyDeleteIF it makes them happy to use it (and it seems to)
This poor little girl....
ReplyDeletePU=parental units? Or just stinky parents?
ReplyDeletejmt:
ReplyDeleteYes, PUs are parental units.
Stinky parents, LOL.
I have never posted on this or any blog but would like to comment.

ReplyDeleteA+ good research!
PU was used as a come back to the users of CCP, which some of us find offensive.
UES Nanny (care giver)
OK, with all of the abbr. going on here, I feel like I'm stuck in some teenage girl's IM!!! (um, that means instant message) Abbreviate WTF or other nonsense like that, but typing "nanny" or "parent" should not be too difficult for the commenters here.
ReplyDeleteLots of stupidity going on here.
