Nanny: Dk. hair, straight, mid back-Jeans, Light green jack with hoodie.
Child: Light Brown hair, straight, shoulder length-purple sweats, purple sweater, jean jacket three years of age, (give or take).
Child and nanny were standing just outside Shoppers Drugmart, nanny was engaged in conversation on cell phone, while child was approached by homeless man lingering near the Yonge street curb selling papers. Nanny did not bother to pull child back as the man approached. Nanny was just laughing and talking away, meanwhile your child could have been taken by this man. Anything can happen in these times. Nanny should have been more aware of her surroundings, gotten off the phone and held your child's hand.
That's creepy that homeless guy could have totally taken the child and the nanny wouldn't have noticed. Maybe nanny's shouldn't be allowed cell phones or at least one's that the parents give to them. Since they seemed to be distrcacted by them and NOT looking after their child.
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell is wrong with these nannies? Don't they watch the news or read the newspaper and have the knowledge that there are kidnappers and child molesters everywhere?!?!
ReplyDeleteNannies like this make people think all nannies are like this. Please, we are no all irresponisble, selfish and stupid just trying to make some money. Some of us really love what we do and really love and care for the children we watch. I know I have a strong bond with the baby I nanny for and I don't take my eyes off her, not even for a second
Cell phones great invention but also a dangerous piece of technology! I recently saw a study that said cell phone users are as impaired as drunk drivers!!!! SCARY!!!! Not what you want to hear when a nanny like this is using her cell and clearly not doing her job!!!
ReplyDeleteOver reaction. Over reaction. Over reaction.
ReplyDeleteI find it kind of classist that because the man was homeless he was immediately a predator. Let's be honest, people. Most child predators are people the child already knows. Personally I'd be more upset about the child getting close to the street.
ReplyDeleteWell, there are other things about homeless men to consider than that they might be a sexual predator or kidnapper. One is that they are generally filthy and, more than likely, inebriated, on drugs or mentally ill, which is why most of these men end up homeless. They are usually looking for a handout and sometimes get very agitated if refused. There is no reason to expose a child to a homeless vagrant, and if such a character is within range of a child, the child needs to be guarded and removed from the scene. The nanny's job is to protect her charge, not to gossip on a phone totally unaware in the kind of public area as described.
ReplyDeleteThe greater percentage of homeless people are mentally ill. I was approached by a homeless man near the Seaport. I did not walk away and he offered me a two liter bottle that seemed to be used as his "commode".
ReplyDeleteOh Jeez
ReplyDeletei dont think this is what is classist.
ReplyDeleteno, it isn't
ReplyDeleteI find this post, and the responses, classist as well, as poster 12:13 said. It's not true that all homeless people are filthy.
ReplyDeleteFor instance, my mother-in-law owns her own home and you can smell her from a mile away.
:)
what does she smell like?
ReplyDeleteLike cat pee.
ReplyDeleteYes it is classist, but it is true! Many of these homeless people have mental problems and you can never tell what they may do! It is always better to heed on the side of caution! Especially with your child, don't you agree? That goes for anyone who you may bet a ' strange feeling' about!
ReplyDeletedoes she have cats?
ReplyDeletego to a cat website if you are so concerned with them and their scent-loon
ReplyDelete1. The nanny should have been paying attention to the child and not her cell phone.
ReplyDelete2. The nanny should not be permitted to make social calls during work hours...just like the rest of us
3. Stranger Danger...everyone is a threat - another nanny just in it for the money and or papers and not for the love of what she does
You all make me want to throw up
