Joyce Leslie at the Woodbridge Mall in Woodbridge, New Jersey.

Received Wednesday, February 14, 2007
Joyce Leslie in Woodbridge Mall,Woodbridge, New Jersey
date 2/13, between 4-5 PM.
Black Black Sable double stroller containing two children, the oldest a girl between 2-3, the youngest between 1-2. The girl had two ponytails in her hair with red bands and was wearing mint green jacket. The other child was wearing ivory jacket.
The incident was as follows. The sitter had the child in the store and paid them no mind. The children were occupied though. And with what? They each had a packet of instant hot chocolate they were eating out of the packet. Do you know how gross that is? Not too mention the little child could have sucked it down his or her lungs. The nanny parked the child this way or that way against the wall (yeay for us the other shoppers, but not for the kiddies who were shoved against a wall and left to eat their sugar and paper snack while the nanny shopped for skank clothes.) I get taking a kid in a store. But bring a damn stuffed animal, a cup of juice. Some carrots. The kids were beautiful, I can tell mama doesn't shop at Joyce Leslie because they were dressed up good. I kneeled and talked to the kids two times at different locations in the store. The nanny even looked up. It's a big store, with kids that little you have to keep a closer eye. Nanny didn't even talk to the kid. I see nannies shop with kids before but they atleast talk to them. Even if the kid dont know what you are talking about, if you said "what do you think of this here dress" at least you are staying connected with them. This nanny seemed all kinds of bad for reasons I can't even put to text.

  1. Hmmmm. Cocoa packets. Suggests that she had access to the family pantry. Maybe there was nothing else? Not an excuse for the nanny or her lack of interaction but I just can't figure why cocoa?
    And YUCK!

  2. Nothing else in the house? If these people can afford a nanny, I'd REALLY hope that they could afford an adequate snack for their child.

  3. that's just it, when i see a child in an expensive stroller, i assume the parent wants the child taken care of well. I don't know. I just don't know what is wrong with people.

  6. WOW what is going on here? YOUR so out of sorts with skank this and coco packets that. YOU were shopping at this so called skank store right? Very Judgmental or mental

  7. 12:39 PM Your assumption is wrong. There are parents who buy expensive strollers and clothing for their children, and hire the cheapest "nanny" they can find, who is usually not a real nanny, but a cleaning lady who babysits.

  8. haha! "skank" clothes! Hilarious!

  9. You are freaking out over cocoa? That's ridiculous. We used to eat that dry all the time when I was a kid. It may seem gross if you can't wait to hate on people, but what's the difference between eating it dry and making it into hot chocolate.

This woman may have been a bad nanny but it's not because she let the kids eat cocoa. You're over-reacting. Let's get mad about something actually wrong.

  10. are cocoa packets a euphanism for something? Is this some sort of snide racist post?

  11. if she was shopping for skank clothes.. what were you doin in there? and .. i agree with the other person.. get mad at someone for something serious.. i think your just bored.
how do u know it was even a nanny? could have been a relative or a friend..

  12. I remember Joyce Leslie from back when I lived in Brooklyn. The stuff falls apart after one washing & isn't for me. But I can't say I didn't buy a lot of birthday gifts for my skank friends.

  13. 447,
Put down the race card and step away from the table.

  14. 5:05 PM- You said that it could have been a relative or a friend. Couldn't we say the same thing about 95% of the posts here. That is no reason NOT to post.

  15. I would have been upset wtinessing this as well. Ignoring the children, feeding them dry cocoa.....I hope mommy reads this.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Perhaps the children had the cocoa because their mommy doesn't want unhappy children. Nannies, you know what I mean. The mommies that demand their children are never unhappy, never told no, never to be allowed to cry?! Maybe this nanny has an employer like that and the children wanted the cocoa before they would leave the house? It was probably their mommy that introduced them to dry cocoa to get them to shut up.

  17. Picturing two children so young "eating" cocoa out of a packet makes me sick. It sounds very messy. I picture dirty mouth and soggy paper. If the younger child was really so young, why sugar?

There is NO reason on earth a child under three ever needs to have SUGAR.

  18. This is my first time viewing this site. How do people know it is the nanny and not the mother?

  19. The kids I watch and myself eat cocoa packets all the time. they love the stuff, and if we are out they eat them like a lik-a-stik (powdered candy with a stick) absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Jeez some of the stuff you people gripe about sends me bonkers.

  20. 833- no offense, but you sound unhealhy, fat and uneducated.

  21. we used to eat jello packets on apples as a chiled..im asuming its the same thing?

  22. Nanny Skank needs to take a few courses in child care and child nutrition.

  23. 833, you sound rude, boring and un-educated. I'm sure there are less calories and fat in a packet of hot cocoa mix than, say, a candy bar. I've eaten cocoa mix before, that time of the month. And I can't say that I'm fat, uneducated or unhealthy. Anything in moderation is fine. Maybe you have an eating disorder, and can't stomach the thought of others savoring their guilty pleasures while you deny yours. Get some help with that. It's a bad example for children.

As far as the little children being allowed to eat cocoa mix, the mall is not the place for that. Besides being rude to eat in a shop, it is also too messy. Obviously the nanny gave them something that would give herself enough time to shop. And I agree that little ones that age need supervision if they eat it, because it is super fine and could be inhaled into the lungs. Shame on her.

  24. I think it's pretty funny that the nanny is making fun of the clothing store yet was shopping there herself!
And for the record, the people I nanny for tell me to give their kids lots of snacks I'm not particulary crazy about, but I give it to them. Sometimes the little boys I care for take a baggie of fruit loops or lucky charms or trix to the store. It's not my choice, and maybe it's not the nanny's choice in this post either.

  25. I think you meant your unkind words for 927. Having said that -if I saw this sight; I would be repulsed. I don't have an eating disorder. I have no problem with overweight adults but I do think that parents and caregivers who provide JUNK to their children are doing an incredible disservice that will have lifetime ramifications. At this age, they aren't even asking for it- you are introducing it to them. Sick!

  26. 914, you're right. I meant 927. And I agree with you about the junk food. My son is three, and he eats very well MOST of the time. My husband introduce hot dogs and chips, and now gummy snacks and suckers!!! Yuck! Someone his age does not need that crap. I can usually weasle out of giving it to him by insisting he eat something healthy first. By the time he eats the good stuff, he will still ask for the treat, but can never finish it all. :) I am only indulgant because he is underweight, and am glad to have him eat. But I will not let him eat cocoa packs!! It is a disgustiog habit of mine (altough I like the sugar free kind). But for me it's a good chocolate fix. NOT FOR TODDLERS!!!

  27. I did the same thing when I was a child. Now, we bliam the nanny but how do we know that the parents didnt ok this???

  28. Don't you realize that children shouldn't have a lot of juice (sugar! Yes juice contains SUGAR!) and carrots are a choking hazzard for young children.

How do you know that "skank" wasn't the mother?

    ReplyDelete
  29. well, even if the skank was the mother, she needs some instruction in childcare and nutrition.

  30. 118, juice is ok. The 100% kind, or better yet, OJ. A study has just been released that shows juice does not make children obese. Of course, a daily serving size is only 6oz.

  31. I am a nanny, and I feel it is importantr to interact with chidren at any age.. with the hot chocolate... ew.. but hey maybe that is what they want and the parents allow.

"that's just it, when i see a child in an expensive stroller, i assume the parent wants the child taken care of well. I don't know. I just don't know what is wrong with people." --Uh, it does not matter what type os stroller a child is in.. all parents want their children to be wel taken care of. Some people just can not afford those fancy strollers.

For any nannies who might be reading this.. if you have a toddler who you take out often to the mall or shops.. it is a perfect time to interact with them and even teach them! My charge is 3 years old, and we often go to the strip mall and walk around. I like to ask her to find me something orange in the windows etc... or ask her what colors certain things are,and sometimes I have her count all of the babies we pass. Small simple things like that keep the children entertained, as well as stimulates their minds =).

  32. 11:49 you are great! First of all you keep the child engaged when you talk to them and challenge them with questions and games, but speaking for myself, it keeps me entertained too. I can get bored. And when a child has had a mentally stimulating day, naps and nightime sleep come much more quickly. Keep up the good work.

  33. If yhe original commenter felt that those children where in danger of choking or being kid-napped, why did she not say something to the supposed nanny? One could politely say something like "a man or woman was talking with the children" "it made me uncomfortable, so maybe you should keep them closer to you." this would be a non-critical way of remind her of the responsibility she has for those children. It would have been sad if the commenter heard later, that one of them was snatched from the coach.....and she did nothing but whine on a web site. I happened upon this web page while I was trying to locate a Joyce Leslie shop in my area. I guess you were in the store buying socks!
