Nanny grocering with 2 little girls. Both blonde. Both under 4. One may have been as young as 10 months. Observed her loading groceries and children in to the car. I was sitting in parking lot a distance away. Nanny was heavyset with reddish brown curly hair, white or possibly part latina. She was wearing standard taupe uggs. Jeans. Driving a new looking Pathfinder in Black. After the nanny loads the kids up, she goes back to the bags of groceries and is looking for something. I can not see from a distance what it is. Nanny then puts whatever it is in the front seat and climbs in the car. The nanny gets in the front seat and drives to a spot furthest from the entrance of the store. I can now observe her and she is eating something. Does not appear to be interacting with the children. Finally, the woman comes out who I am giving a ride too. I help her in the car, put her bags in my car. About 20 minutes has passed now since the nanny has been sitting in the parking lot eating. So I take measure to cruise by the side of her car. What is she doing? Sitting in the car with a half gallon of ice cream on her lap. Is this a case of employer's being stingy with the nanny? WTF? Why are the kids forced to be strapped in their car seats while this happens? It's nice out today, shouldn't they have been out playing???? Food issues?

  1. This hardly counts as abusive. Can't a lady eat her ice cream in peace? Besides, don't those people who use nannies usually have dvd players for their children installed in their cars?

  2. what is sad is so many people are just so damn happy their kids arent being abused that they dont seem to mind the fact that their children are being taught improper english, nannies are raining on proper etiquette and giving children food issues a plenty

  3. Anon #2,
I hope you aren't teaching anyone English.

  4. I see nothing wrong with this. True it's a bit odd but you never know how the rest of the day's been. Maybe the nanny didn't eat anything else that day and needed a break to eat. What if she had been a thin nanny munching on some carrots?

  5. while it is interesting to read other people's comments, the only relevant one would be that of the mother. If I came across my own nanny, I wouldn't be pissed our outraged. I would think it incredibly strange and odd and wonder how she got the children to sit still in the car for such a long period of time. I wouldn't like it because it seems off. Then again, my nanny has free reign to buy what she wants on our grocery card and eat what she wants so it is more than likely that she would come home and dump them in front of the tv to watch a movie if she needed a break. And yes, everyone needs a break. But a half gallon in a parking lot? What utensil would one use?

  6. is your car taller than a pathfinder? I hope so, otherwise how would you know she has ice cream in her lap.

I think you just don't like fat people. get a life. watching someone else for 20 minutes? sounds like a stalker.

  7. Get a life poster, everyone of your postings sounds the same. Guess what your # is up. The days of you freely bad nannying are over. Did you seriously write to ask if this person's car is taller than a pathfinder? Perhaps, you should get a life. This isn't abusive. But it is damn odd. If the nanny has some sort of eating disorder, does she do the same in the dead of winter. You need to pipe down. Parents need info. Lots and lots of info.

  8. Dear Ms. Doe,

You are a fascist nazi! Someone should stalk you and publically criticize your eating habits sometime. But I imagine you're neither fat nor possibly part latina (racist much?). Sheesh, give people a break!

  9. This was an absolutely ridiculous post. Stop being such a damn busy-body and do some actual good in the world. Because this? Doesn't count.

  10. It counts for me. I had a nanny who used to do something similiar while with my six month old child. Only I didn't know it UNTIL I found out on my own. By then, the damage was done.

  11. Ok-let me get this straight now..............the nanny should not eat at home because then she is keeping the kids stuck in the house. She shouldn't eat out at the park because then she is not watching them every second. And, she should not eat in the car because she is keeping them strpped into their car seats for longer than encessary. So, basically, she should just not eat. OK, got it.
Food issues? Give me a break! For crying out loud! Maybe it was her time of the month and she had a one time craving. Stop psycho analyzing every thing.

  12. it is ABNORMAL to eat out of a half gallon of ice cream! In a parking lot.

  13. Yes, there's something not right here. Stopping for a snack is one thing, but wolfing down a carton of ice cream in a car is not normal.

  14. I don't think the nanny sounds dangerous or abusive. What if she is this wonderful nanny and is going through a problem and needs help? Most people don't realize you can be addicted to food just like alcohol. It isn't healthy and everyone needs a little help some time. So for all of you out there with good nannies who happen to grocer, be as kind to them as they are to your children. The best case scenario for you and your family is a nanny who stays for awhile!

  15. Wow - how do you know this was a nanny? I mean really - even if a caregiver is a different race, how do you know the kids weren't adopted/married into the family, etc.? Even if she was a hired caregiver, so what? I was an au pair for a year, and never got to eat what I prepared for my employers - I had to go back to my garage room and cook my canned pasta on a hot plate. I would have *loved* a chance to snarf some food if my family would've let me. Look - abuse is abuse, and if you see it dial 911 and report it to the freaking police - who cares whether it's the nanny or the parent doing it, the abuser needs to be brought to justice. That said, a lot of the crap on this site (particularly the original posting) seems to be a bunch of overly judgemental/racist drivel that says way more about the hang-ups and issues of the person reporting it than anything else.

  16. Lowly Au pair with her garage hut is entitled to her own opinion. I pay my nanny $1100 a week and am certain that she would never do ANY of these things. And if she did DO ANY OF THESE THINGS, she wouldn't be MY NANNY and making $1100 a week. My standards are high.

  17. Wow. Angry anon poster implying that eating ice cream in the middle of winter qualifies as an "eating disorder" and rich bitch diet snob above who woud fire her nanny for eating ice cream in a car? WTF is so wrong about eating some ice cream and relaxing for 20 minutes while the kids are being mellow and safe? Maybe it was hot outside and air conditioned in the car? Who cares!

You people are the reason so many kids these days develop serious neuroses by the time they're 10 years old. You SHOULD have nannies though, because even the cheaply paid, uneducated, fat, nonwhite ones are no doubt better at parenting than you are and your kids are going to need all the help they can get!

    ReplyDelete
  18. So btw bst, do you teach your kids that it's fine to look down on and make fun of fat, possibly "part Latina" ladies because it's wrong of them to eat ice cream?

    ReplyDelete
  19. There's no problem to being whole or part Latina. A lotta shame to being a fatso shoveling down a vat of ice cream in the parking lot. Get help. Get help now. We want you to get help.

  20. I think Patrolmen on Tremont street pull you over if you are a)driving sans seatbelt, b)talking on your cellphone and/or c)traveling at a high rate of speed with a trough of ice cream on your lap and using the garage door opener as a make shift spoon.

All I can say is ((((applause)))) to the nanny for using common sense and binging and purging from a parked vehicle. It could be so much worse.

    ReplyDelete
  21. To not bst: you obviously need some help yourself for your own anger issues and lack of self esteem that causes you to point your stinky little fingers at OTHER people's weakesses to help yourself feel worthwhile.

As I understand it, this site is allegedly to raise parents' awareness of bad nannying, neglectful or abusive behavior. Exactly how does a large person who has a weakness for ice cream fit into that topic? What's your vice so that we can all "report" it dutifully and discuss it like responsible citizens should? Gin? Botox? Shoe shopping? Anal stimulation?

  22. whoa! Who is the bad parenting example? With the potty talk? Exactly what is normal about a nanny eating from a half gallon of ice cream in a parking lot? A could understand a drumstick, a klondike bar, even successive pudding pops. But this is bizarre. I am not a fan of odd nannies. Of course perhaps that is because the last time I wrote off a nanny's oddities I later came to realize the nanny was crushing up my child's medication and snorting it. So yeah, I look closely. I look for signs that something is off. I don't know this nanny, but if it was a friend of mine, be certain phones would be ablaze with gossip because that isn't quite ordinary.

  23. If not bst poster wants to make sure she teaches her children right from wrong, maybe next time she is out with them and sees a heavy person eating ice cream she should make sure to yell out loudly "Look kids, there's a fatso shoveling down a vat of ice cream in the parking lot!" She should instruct her nanny to do the same and maybe if she's lucky, when she's an overweight grandma and makes the mistake of thinking it's no one's business if she feels like tasting the groceries, her grandkids can yell it out to their mom to let her know how much they appreciate the fine upbringing their mom passed onto them.

  24. $1100 a week for your nanny??? Let me know when she quits, I want to apply..............

  25. I wouldn't hire a nanny who showed up on my doorstep because of the salary OR a nanny that was surprised by the salary. My nanny made a comparable amount in her last position.
