White woman with thin, short brown hair pulled back in pony tail with white "scrunchie". denim short skirt and flip flops pushing a little girl in a stroller. I saw her leaving the Crate and Barrel Store. The little girl was pulling on the seat cushion behind her and on the "cover" top thing. The nanny-who could have been a mother- but I think was a nanny-twice slapped her hand in such a way that I heard it and I was walking in the opposite direction. It seemed out of the ordinary. The child was fussing with the material but not making any noise or causing any sort of problem, and IMO slapping a child's hand is uncalled for. The little girl was likely under two. Brown hair, white knit sweater type dress and grey tights or leggings.
yeah, i know so many nannies that shop at crate and barrel. hope the poster had other reasons to suspect it was a nanny than just the fact that the adult slapped the child's hand
ReplyDeleteI know nannies that run errands all day long. Shoes at nordsroms, glasses at crate and barrel. WTF? Can't we just assume that people who post here-being in the place to actual witness what is going on, are at least able to deduce who is a nanny? I damn sure can spot a nanny!
ReplyDeleteI think the poster just tattled on a Mother. So what's next, Childrens Protective Services monitoring these sites?

Uh-oh, I think the person posting just tattled on a Mother.
ReplyDeleteSo what's next, Childrens Protective Services...and is there anyone who doesn't know how bad they are?
But all things being San Diego; if you want the scoop on them, try here:

San Diego features Judges who know about fake therapists; but order people to use their "Visitation" centers anyway!
I'm a nanny, you can't imagine how many times people have thought I am my charges mother (but surprisingly only when we are having fun or laughing and i'm not doing anything 'bad'like expecting a child to behave or play independently)
ReplyDeleteI`m a mother of three and I `ve been frequently mistaken for my kids` nanny -- both here in SF where we live and in LA where we used to live.
ReplyDeleteMaybe some people CAN tell the difference between a nanny and a mother, but certainly not everyone can.
Okay, so hypothetically. What happens? If a mother is mistakenly cast as a nanny on this blog? The truth is we need nannies to be anwerable for their mistakes because parents are not accountable.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean, parents are not accountable for their mistakes? They certainly are.
ReplyDeleteAnd if the mother/nanny distinction is repeatedly blurred on this blog, then I would question the whole premise of the blog.
Listen up, L- who is blurring it but you? Where are you anyway? I can tell a nanny from a mother and a stepmom from a mother and a donkey from a goat and a piece of cheese from a piece of brie. And I'm no genius. Catch up.
ReplyDeleteI`m not "blurring it" -- people who think I`m my kids` nanny are "blurring it."
ReplyDeleteAll I`m saying is that it happens.
It happens, but so what?
ReplyDeleteUnacceptable behavior in childcare is always unacceptable... regardless
This blog is called, "I Saw Your Nanny," not "I Saw You, Bad Mama."
ReplyDeleteI have been known to spank my kids and even feed them junk food. And if I saw someone criticizing me on a blog -- I would only laugh.
L- you spank your kids? And act proud about this? Are you a hick? Thanks for teaching your children how to hit and hurt others. The humiliation of being spanked is psychologically damaging to a child. I so hope my children are not in the same school as yours. Violence begets violence.
ReplyDeletei'm white and my daughter is mixed race (being half samoan) and no one has ever asked if i'm her nanny, they always refered to me as her mum, so i suppose people can tell.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous -- you bet I do (not often, but I do). Yep, I`m a hick -- that made me laugh. And don`t worry, my kids are not in the same school with yours, or I would have recognized you by now, for your judgmental smugness.
ReplyDeleteI am most frequently mistaken for a nanny by other nannies (asking who my employer is, etc.). Also, when my daughter was a baby, people would ask me if we`d adopted her from China, because she looks very Asian and I`m pale and blonde.
Who spanks their kids in this day and age? I have such a problem with people hitting thier kids. I am not judgemntal or smug, just right. And you are w r o n g.
ReplyDeleteRR, I think you`re wrong about me, too. So we`re even. :)
ReplyDeleteI no more believe that all spanking is abuse than I believe all property is theft and all intercourse is rape.
People who use the word "spank" to justify hitting, ie physically striking their children are ignorant. And quite possibly responsible for everything wrong with America.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: What percentage of felons were spanked as a child?
Answer: All of them that grew up in their natural homes. Those that were not spanked were often the products of broken homes, foster care gone awry, etc.
Well, I intend to continue spanking my kids as I see fit, and if a rare swat on the bum is enough to turn a child into a future felon, most of my own generation would be behind bars.
ReplyDeleteAnd another funny thing -- namecalling is not having any effect convincing me that I`m wrong. In fact, it`s having quite the opposite effect.
right, L. Namecalling probably just makes you want to beat a child.
ReplyDeleteVery odd thing to joke about, Anon. What if what you just said were true? Would it make you feel good, to anger an abuser so that she takes it out on the kid? Not the most admirable or effective tactic -- but I guess that depends on what the purpose of your comments really is.
ReplyDeleteJust my 2 cents, I'm often, at first glance, mistaken for my child's nanny, because he's very blond and I'm very dark haired. Some people are astute enough to notice our resemblance though, and sometimes after watching us together for awhile they'll ask if he's mine. Sometimes it's not so obvious.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't agree with spanking kids either.
i don't approve of spanking, but there are certainly worse fates than an occasional swat on the bottom. my mom spanked me once as a little kid, and boy did i remember to never again touch her computer. i managed to survive the torment of a spanking and went on to be not only not a felon but graduate from college, and am working on my master's in nursing while happily married and pregnant. as long as a parent (or nanny!) gives positive reinforcement for good behavior, uses spanking sparingly, and doesn't in any way injure the kid (i'm talking emotional scars too) whats the big deal? my kid won't live in a bubble, does yours? do you seriously think spanking is responsible for all that is wrong with this country? whos the hick here!
ReplyDeleteYes I think spanking is Evil. And Strange. Look at all the men who have spanking fetishes and ask yourself if you want them to spank your children? I mean look closely at your husband. Spanking is Evil.
ReplyDeleteAnd people who spank are Evil. And how old are you 12? Because I am having my second child now but I didn't grow up around a mother who had a computer. Unless by computer you mean the Commodore 64 and what in the hell was she doing on it? Surfing S&M fantasies?
the hick is the one who failed to insert an apostrophe in the word "who's"
ReplyDeleteBut that's just me.
Not a hick and anti hick since 1974.
See Jane Run,
ReplyDeleteIt isn't just San Diego.
In Westchester County (NY)they have legal guardians appointed by the court who take the money and run. And they DECIDE the court case for the judge based on who can pay the higher dollar. The only difference is that H. Beatty Chadwick got caught. A lot of Family Court attorneys get hog rich off the misfortunes and heartbreak of children and no one is willing to do anything about it.
I am 28 years old and my parents had a computer in the home since I was 6 years old. You do realize that people do things for a living that utilize computers for more than surfing porn (yes, even way back 20 plus years ago, and yes, in the home.)
ReplyDeleteIf you honestly don't know that, perhaps it is YOU that are 12 years old and not the person you attempted (and FAILED) at snarking.
I disagree with spanking and I don't spank my children. However I was spanked on a very rare o
ccasion and I turned out just fine. It is apparent that some (not all) of the people attacking the "Spanker" are a bit mentally unbalanced. Maybe someone SHOULD have spanked you.
Let's see..when did our world get so crazy. Teens calling cops on parents..kids talking back to parents and having absolutley no respect for authority figures???..Oh yes, when,as a nation, mom's went to work and we stopped spanking our children!!!! The age of reason is 8!! If you think a "spanker" is metally unbalanced...how about someone trying to "Reason" with a 1 &1/2 yearold not to run out into the street!!
