"I'm a nanny for 2 families in Roseville, CA. I work M, W, F and the other T, TH. Both 8 hours a day. And usually a few hours over time a week. They both treat me like I'm a part of the family and I quite often stay and hang out after 'I'm off work' and eat dinner with them and watch movies, etc. Both families fave me $250 bonuses each along with going in on a Christmas gift together, a beautiful amethyst ring with 4 diamonds, which represent my 4 girls that I take care of. I have been with both of my families for about 10 months now, and we are perfect matches for each other. They pay me $10 and hour, which is nothing, Yes I know, But they do take care of me in many other ways! I cannot complain at all. I hope this helps"

"I have been working for the same family in Fairfield, CT for almost two years. My position is that of nanny. The first year I got one weeks pay. I made 800 week the first year. That year they raised me to $850 and that is the amount of the bonus I got this year. The family also gave me an extra two weeks of unscheduled vacation so I am off until January 3. I take care of three girls and the mother bought a gift for each girl from me. Each gift was nice. A Tod's Mickey handbag, A $250 Lord & Taylor Gift Certificate and a silk and cashmere robe. These are not things I would ever buy for myself. I work for a great family and not because they got me great gifts this holiday. They are good people all year long! I consider myself very lucky!"

Any Supplementary Gifts aside from The Bonus: $300 Jo Malone Candle Length of Time you Have worked for the Family: 14 months
City , State and Country: No response
"Last year I got a bonus of $350 dollars. I make $600 per week. I started the job in October of 2005 so the bonus seemed fair.
Last year I got no gift. This year I got no bonus. I did get a Jo Malone Orange Blossom Candle with 4 wicks. I'm a live in nanny and one of their rules in the nanny contract was that I could not burn incense or candles. I looked online and found out that this candle sells for over $300 dollars. This surely makes my gift the worst and most impractical ever! I spent about $400 on thoughtful and practical gifts for each of their kids as well as both parents. Bummer."

"I decided to respond to your questionnaire because my situation is relatively unique. For the past 13 months, I have been working for a very dysfunctional family in need of a lot of care. I live in M-F. The job isn't what I thought it would be at all. It is so much more. The two children I take care of really need a stable force in their life so even when it gets hard, I can't think to leave. The family I work for lives in a big house in Westchester. I wouldn't say their personal information but the police have been to the house because of fights they had. They are not the best parents which you can imagine they aren't the best boss either. They don't remember to leave things for me. My paycheck has bounced 3 times. I have to ask for them to pay the bounced fee. All of this takes time. I come in on Monday and there won't even be milk in the refrigerator so I have to take the kids straight away to the store to get milk for breakfast. If they don't leave money, I pay for it and leave a receipt. I am still waiting to get paid back for groceries I bought last week. I am crazy about their boys though. They are good kids. It is no surprise that a bonus did not occur to my boss last year. This year I thought maybe because I had been such a part of their life this past year. I wouldn't expect a gift since I bought most of the gifts for the mom for her kids and wrap them too. So when I left on Friday, there was a yellow piece of paper folded and taped with my name on it. I opened it and it was $50. The last time I used the credit card at the gas station, it wouldn't take so I had to put her gas on my card. $48. worth. I still don't know if the $50 was my yearly bonus or maybe it was the repaying of $48 of gas. But I put it in my handbag and packed up for the weekend to go home to Brooklyn. The father's mom pull me aside and told me she didn't know how I did it and she appreciated that I take such good care of her grandchildren. Then she said that this was between just me and her and she gave me an envelope. Then I left to walk to the train station. The check was for $1,000.00. I was shocked. It wasn't the money but it made me cry that the grandparents realized that I was doing a hard job. The money is also great but it best was that I felt appreciated."
