hi I'm new here!
I'm not currently a nanny, but I'm hoping to be in the near future! I'm looking for some kind of nanny school/training program to give me that extra "umph' and set me apart. I have plenty of childcare/babysitting experience, I just want to take it one step further. any tips and advice would be appreciated!! :)
Depending on where you live. Maybe attending Early Childhood Classes at your local college. CPR and First Aid a must- if you haven't already.
ReplyDeleteDon't waste your money on a nanny school. Agree with anon above- CPR and some early childhood education are definite pluses. Just continue to get actual experience. As a mom, I wouldn't hire someone just because they went to a nanny school. I actually know someone who did that, and she never got a job as a nanny. Moms are looking for someone who knows what they're doing, not someone who just learned about it.
ReplyDeleteTake classes but also, start as a mothers helper. You'll get the feel for what nannying is. I got experience because the family I was babysitting for liked me so much.

ReplyDeleteI disagree about not needing education from a nanny school. It is extremely valuable to learn from other professional nannies and their experiences, which really open your eyes about the job. I went to a Nanny School in LA, plus Child Development classes, plus CPR etc. At a school you will learn about developmental and physical milestones, child psychology and lots of things you wont learn necessarily working on the field, like sleep training, how to talk and negotiate with parents, how to effectively communicate with parents and children. And also, you will meet more nannies and professionals of the filed. Good luck and enjoy! It is a beautiful career where you will get lots of rewards, and it you are good you can earn lots of money.. 4 years ago i had a salary of 75,000 usd a year and because i did all of the above.
