Kudos To You - Our Readers Kick Scammers' Tooshes

The Old Check Fraud Attack!! ( from Leigh)

Our blog has just now helped a major media outlet with a great reputation learn about a scam that happens to potential nannies. The scammers gain the trust of the vulnerable nanny who of course needs a job and sustenance , gaining her gratitude and joy by sending some advance pay for time and supplies ( as much as $5000 ), and then asking for some of it back blah blah. Well, you know the rest - the original money is fake, it eventually bounces and the evil-doers have the nanny's hard won money earned thru blood sweat and tears while the nanny is overdrawn and in debt!

Good job ISYN!! Your report inspired talented members of the media to investigate to help other nannies! The report is coming up after the weekend and we will get it to you!!

meanwhile - anyone reading this who has been scammed for money as a nanny there are people who wish to know and help - email us !

key words - fraud against nannies, abuse against nannies, steal money from nannies, lie to nannies

  4. Good advice! I always get these annoying calls and I don't know what they want from me. I know it's a scam but I wasn't sure what they were trying to get outta me. Thx for the info.

  5. I just got a check from one of these places for $2300 - they really made it look good and reasonable and they gave a good reason for me believing in it, and I could use it - just got out of the hospital, and my assistant who helps with this site researched it and quickly found it to be a fake scam - be very aware

  8. everyone - google KPRC NANNYSCAM and you will see the story - our readers were not featured but definitely provided needed background. The media specialists were impressed with I SAW YOUR NANNY and the caliber of the contributors and will be back again re: childcare activist issues - good job - keep up the good work!

It's clear low-lifes are out to trick people out of money and we all need to help each other !!

  9. Yeah, I don't mean for this to sound mean, but seriously??? If you're dumb enough to fall for this then you shouldn't be a caregiver for MY CHILDREN. Why would anyone pay you before they've met you? Why would they OVERPAY you before they've met you? Clearly this isn't real. So seriously, if you're falling for this, there are bigger problems and you deserve to be scammed.

  10. I agree with you Annon. Special kind of stupid to fall for this.

  11. It also takes a special kind of person to be a name caller of their fellow humans and ill-wish them

    1. Leigh, no one needs you to defend them. Please don't. Your language is always so odd. Anyway, no one wishes anyone ill. I simply stated that you deserve what you get in this situation. Anytime anyone accepts money for nothing it's usually because of greed. Not always, but usually. So if someone calls and says I'll send you money BEFORE you do the work, you absolutely deserve whatever you get. So fine, maybe I'm calling them greedy. And by the way, the article (which I googled) doesn't even mention this site by name. So forgive me if I believe that other people probably gave them the information. Or at least most of it. I mean, most of the story was about a math tutor...
This site has turned into an awful car crash that I just can't look away from. I try, but I always come back. Mostly to see how awful it's become.

  12. Anonymous- on one hand, thank you for supporting the blog albeit through your unique "train wreck " colored glasses lol. I salute you that you are sharp enough to not be taken in by these scams but they are becoming more clever and obsequious.

On the other hand - I recommend you delete your comment before my assistant blog admin, who consulted with KPRC re: her daughter escaping the scam, sees that you have called her daughter greedy and deserves harm

    thanks again for your post

    1. Whoa. When did anyone say someone deserved "harm???" NO ONE said that. I didn't, the other anons didn't (we're not all the same person you know...). And I personally never used the word "stupid" either. Ugh.

  13. Original OP here.... just to reiterate my daughter is very gullible and naive. She actually thought this was legitimate. NO! she is not stupid, just still sees the world thru rose colored glasses... There was no need to be rude. If you go back to the original post you will see that several people said they had similar issues on care.com, and if you read Shania's post above you will see it happened to her. Anon - you certainly have the right to voice your opinion and although I don't agree with it, i respect it, but please refrain from calling anyone stupid. Corina - this is what you wrote on the original post... "Exactly. Some families are just close. I see no harm in helping family out. It actually is a leaning experience. There is no limit where we can learn from an experience or from a mistake in life. We are a close family and help each other out." So why are you jumping on the "Stupid" bandwagon?

    1. Thanks for chiming in. I totally support that you love and care for your daughter. But I want to reiterate that none of the anon posts, mine included, used the word stupid. Not once. I don't call people names. I used the word greedy. But not in reference to your daughter, just a generalization. And regarding Corina, she's allowed to have a general opinion as well. But again, I don't see that it was aimed at anyone in specific. I hope your daughter has moved on and found a good job. I wish her all the best because I'm not really a mean person. And I'm done. Forget the car crash scenario, I'm done looking. Leigh, good luck. Sincerely. I think you need it.

  14. I know your daughter, she has the best parents in the world, and you guys are protective without being over protective, so she needs guidance on how to deal with scams - we should all be so lucky to have any childcare giver - nanny or parent, best luck to all your kids!!!

  15. Well I was sticking up for your daughter at the time. Wow, this is an old article from March. Why are you obsessing from what was said back from last year? I just didn't like some people putting you down as a mom. I still stick by with all I said. Sticking up for you and my latest comment. Yes, it's great you were their for your daughter and families do have to stick together. When their kids or family do dumb things. Better?

  16. anonymous - you used the word "dumb" ( not stupid, although the mother whose child you insulted extrapolated further, she was not accurate but it's what mothers do)

you also said she "deserves whatever happens" - the implication being something unpleasant

words matter - the choice of words and phrases you make and use in your life and send toward others matters - positive and negative. You can apologize for a misunderstanding but you can never take the words back or successfully blame your words on others

maybe you have learned something important here that will help you with children and mothers! I hope so

    1. I know I said I wouldn't come back, but I'd like to clear something up here. I never spoke of ANYONE in particular. You keep accusing me of calling someone specific, dumb or stupid. I made a GENERAL statement that I felt it was dumb to fall for a scam like this. This post is about a news story and scams that you supposedly helped shed light on. I responded to THIS POST. I did not call anyone's daughter anything. You are so quick to accuse others of being meanies (and other childish names), yet you are the only one fanning the flames. My opinion is what it is. Yes, I think greed drives people to accept money for work they haven't done. Yes, I think it's foolish to fall for this kind of scam. Yes, I think if you want/get money for nothing you get what you get and you don't get upset. I'm sorry for those who have fallen for this scam, but I'm sure they felt foolish and have learned an important lesson. Please stop accusing me of saying things about people I haven't said.

  17. I do feel one more point should be made because sincere as anonymous is, she got another point inaccurate - receiving a payment and even spending it before completion of the job does not necessarily mean a person is greedy and deserving of a vague nefarious fate.

We run a nanny care giver plus business and sometimes corporate clients in particular send large payments - $1000's before the job, then it's my job to make sure everyone does a good job and gets paid. A small amount of workers are in fact greedy, you pay them ahead of time and it affects their work ethic negatively, but not most., most are grateful.

  18. We simply have to agree to disagree - that your words could be taken as pejorative by the Ops mother and a friend, me in re: they as a family dealing with a scam. It was very nice of you to clear up your actual intended meaning from your original statement.

This is a child activist site, if it even appears someone treats, writes about or any action that is wrong or potentially harmful to babies, kids, or even young adults we are going to respond and have a discussion - thank you for your contribution and best wishes for your family

  19. That Happened to me about 10 years ago. I was so desperate for money, because I was working very PT, that I did take some money from a stranger online. The person asked me to send some money back. I did learn my lesson and now everything i receive I try to verify it. Even unknown phone numbers. It does happen! :(

  20. I've gotten many scam emails. Many are written in broken English asking me to nanny their handicapped child. They ask for my address and bank account so that they can send me the child's wheelchair in advance and compensate me for holding it. I believe that the scammers have hacked Care.com, so if you are on Care and get an email like this, WATCH OUT! Don't respond at all and immediately report it as spam. I made the mistake of responding to the first email and they somehow got my phone number and kept texting me from fake numbers asking me to nanny for different families.

  21. Thanks you guys, yes sometimes it's not realistic, but the bad guys are getting clever and times are rough! The one I got did not even have a schtick! It was in a small stack of other checks while I had been indisposed - my assistant caught it! But I was like well it's made to me why not? and she was smart and explained it - that is why we are here to help each other !!!!
