Since I last posted about this, we have not heard anything further from this man (except receiving this check)
This is taken from Care.com in reference to scams...
There are two main types of scams that are prevalent on the Internet: the “overpayment scam” and the “pay in advance scam.” They're very similar and usually go something like this...
A scammer poses as an employer and attempts to trick you into sending money. Typically, the employer reaches out via text message with a job offer that seems too good to be true.
Once you reply, the scammer may ask you to buy a needed item (like a toy or wheelchair) or claim they're relocating and want to pay you in advance.
After you share your full name and address, the scammer sends you a check (often for a large sum of money) and requests that you cash it and wire a portion of the money back to them. They may tell you to keep the rest.
But here's where the scam comes in: the check is fake. Unfortunately, you often don't learn that until it’s too late -- after you've already sent a portion of the money back to the scammer, which you're then responsible for repaying to the bank, as well as additional fees associated with this type of fraud. In some cases this can amount to thousands of dollars of lost funds.
UN!!! Believable!!! - thank you for sharing this - you are a great mom!!! Keep us posted on any further info and I hope your kid gets her nanny or child care dream job.
ReplyDeleteReally is crazy that people fall for this all the time. I honestly don't understand how people can't see this as a scam.
ReplyDeleteIts pretty basic for you to understand. People who are new to childcare websites or just beginning a nanny career dont know what to look for and also dont know what is average therefore wouldnt consider it to be too good to be true and a scam. I got scammed when i needed a job and this person needed someone asap it wasnt a ridiculous amout of money for me to question it. I realized it tho after i got the check i called the bank to confirm it was fake and reported it. Lesson learned and its pretty easy for people to be unaware of scams like this and am thankful for the OP spreading awareness.
DeleteI know. Its crazy. Some people (like my daughter) are very gullible and trust everyone. There was an elderly woman on the news last week that was scammed out of her life savings (almost $250 thousand) i am thankful my daughter is smart enoigh to talk to me about things like this first!!
ReplyDeleteI was livid at first about this and I am still amazed at my open eyes about scams - this is a very important issue these days ---
ReplyDeletebut there is a happy ending in this case - a 20 year old daughter trusted her mom and brought an issue for guidance - and the mom and daughter worked together to help each other and defeat a predator ( with the help of ISYN - gotta say it)
life could be worse
I am very thankful for comment here. The necessary fact about professional nannies is that they are all devoted as well as committed to offer top notch nannies for hire Los Angeles services. Not all nannies are reputed or in the business for long time, it is important to hire nannies having years of experience as well as Hire a nanny Los Angeles knowledge at the back.
ReplyDelete"Kevin" do you think you might want to pay for advertising in a newspaper or journal? Or would you prefer to sleaze yourself onto nanny sites as a "concerned" poster?
ReplyDeletewe have promoted legitimate and awesome links before - what do you think about this one? shall we keep it or is it not isyn material? i was not sure
ReplyDeleteCare. com is one of the most annoying sites to sign up for. On a daily basis I was getting at least 10 texts messages saying they were looking for a nanny, housekeeper, caregiver, etc. All were scams trying to get money form me..smh
ReplyDeleteI received a Navy Federal check in the mail today but it doesn't look like the ones that are posted
