Hello. Nanny here.. Seeking advice from other nannies out there. So the family I nanny for, the mom will always ask me to do things for her(understandable, I have no problem) but she keeps adding more and more on. And her excuse is always "I have no time". I'm usually here 8:30-5:30. When I get here she goes to the gym from 8:30-10. She is married and the husband works from home sometimes.. As does the mom. Anyway, it's really starting to bother me when she asks me to do X amount of things and uses the excuse of not having time.
Do you think I should bring up to her, I don't understand how she doesn't have time to errands when she CHOOSES to workout? She puts working out a priority over things she should instead be getting done.
Please let me know! :) thank you all.
Ask for more pay to cover the additional duties that were not previously stated when you took the job. I bet she'll start doing her own errands ASAP ;).
ReplyDeleteI agree
DeleteIf you think the things she asks you to do require more pay, ask for it. But you don't get to judge her for prioritizing working out over errands if you're fairly compensated. She can hop around in a bunny suit for 2 hours per day if she wants and pay you to watch her kids and do the laundry while she does it...as long as you're paid.

ReplyDeleteI think it is great you are willing to take on duties for her because it shows initiative, however, as it becomes part of your job and not just a favor here and there, I suggest you take the time to have a sit down discussion about how you have been taking on more and would like to discuss and increase in salary and title change to "personal assistant and nanny" or "House manager and Nanny."
When it comes to working out over getting errands done, I think it is good she is prioritizing her mental and physical health over activities, and knowing she has you to help gives her the comfort to be able to continue that. I would take that as a sign that she really trusts and values you and probably means she will gladly increase your salary and job title, which will open many doors for you if you continue your career.
