Tonight my six year old told me that if I met the Buddha on the road I should kill him, because I am the only true Buddha. We hired a sweet, albeit crunch nanny from SF to come down to San Diego to work with our family. I love her spirit and her personality and many of her ideas, but I do not, not want her to instruct my children spiritually. I have tried to impress this upon her but she does not seem to get it. I don't want my kids collecting Buddhas, rubbing tummies or quoting Buddhists.
We are Catholics. My child will start religious classes this Fall. I don't want the confusion.
Am I wrong?

No. Absolutely not! She needs to respect your beliefs and not push her beliefs upon your kids. Make it clear to her that she isn't to teach religion or spirituality at all.
ReplyDeleteI am a nanny. Time to let her go. She WILL influence them!! Too much confusion for the children.
ReplyDeleteExactly -- only you should push your religion on your kids!

DeleteLol!
DeleteI love you!
DeleteIf you've already spoken to her about this, and nothing has changed, it's time to let her go.
ReplyDeleteLOL @Nick
ReplyDeletethis nanny has a problem with boundaries and it could happen in other areas - be careful
ReplyDeletethis_nick.... it is their rights as parent to teach their children whatever religious beliefs they would like. If the children grown up and later decide to go a different then so be it. Who are you to judge anyone.

DeleteAgree, I thought my child should develop her own religious beliefs, thinking she would find God on her own. Well now I have a 13 year old hardcore atheist! It breaks my heart, but pray God will reveal himself to her. But still wish I would have guided her a little more strongly!
DeleteIz joke about irony, u see?
DeleteGet off this_nick's case. She made a good comment. Religion is b.s anyway and push it dont push it the kid is going to make their own choice.
DeleteYa, I see more than you ever could know.
ReplyDeleteAs a nanny, I agree that religion should not be talked about unless the parents specifically ask you to do a bible study or prayer with the child before bed etc. and as long as you as the nanny are comfortable with that. Their in no way shape or form should be a nanny talking about religion that the parents are not comfortable with. I see a big issue with this especially since you've spoken with her. Fire her!
