Live in nanny in Northern New Jersey here. I take care of two children, both 5. They have a number of appointments for sensory issues. I had asked the mom to provide something portable for activity since we do so much waiting. Because of tantrums and being needed to consult with a therapist, bring one child into an appointment, etc, I allowed the child to use my phone to play a game. Two times he has broken it. The first time he shattered the screen. This time he jumped up and down on it. I was not in the room. My question is, why are the parents not offering to reimburse me? Forget what it is, it is something of mine broken intentionally because of the spastic behavior of their child!
It would be nice of them to offer to replace or repair the phone, but since you willingly gave it to the child to play with (the parents didn't ask you to do so), they are certainly well within their rights to refrain from offering. It was nice of you to let the kids play with your phone, but it might be time to move to a different sort of waiting room entertainment.
ReplyDeleteBlythe called it.
ReplyDeleteexactly what Blythe said. And maybe get a life factory or otter box case.
ReplyDeleteAs others said, you gave your phone out of your own free will- even after it was broken once before. That was your decision. Get a heavy duty case. Better yet, don't use your phone as entertainment.
ReplyDeleteAlso... Not to sound mean (honestly), but I don't think you know what "intentional" means. That means the five year old took your phone with the intent of smashing it. I doubt that's what happened. I'm just saying. Plus, I agree with the others, especially after the first time it happened. You know you're dealing with special needs children. I wouldn't hand out my phone unless I was right next to them supervising.
ReplyDeleteChiming the rest and just another example of "what about me" BS. Own your choices! It wasnt your responsibility to entertain them with your phone. You asked the parents to help, they didn't and instead of finding other ways to help the kids you copped out by sticking a kid in front of an expensive boobtube. Lessen learned.

Oh! That's a very serious damage your phone got. I agree with Blythe that their parents should be responsible for what their children did, and maybe they should consider replacing your phone given that its damage is due to their child’s behavior. I hope they realize that, specially that it is the second time that it happened.
