MB and Baby #3

OPINION
Hi. Anyone out there able to give advice... I am a nanny who just heard MB is pregnant with #3. I am unsure of a few things with the the third on its way. First being the car situation. I have a 2011 Kia sportage. It is technically a crossover. I don't know if three car seats will fit in my back seat seeing as the oldest will just be turning 4. What do families with a ft nanny do in this situation? Buy a third car that can fit 3 seats for whoever has the kids to use? Or does anyone know what brand of seats might possibly fit into my car (and their cars for that matter... they have cars that are not much bigger then mine)? Secondly, what is a reasonable amount to ask for in a pay increase for a third child? I will have a 4yo boy, 2yo boy, and a newborn. Anyone have a similar situation out there that could give me an idea of what they are being paid/paying their nanny for three little monkeys? - Anonymous

  1. I've heard that the Diono Radian is supposed to be able to fit easily in a backseat with 3. It is a convertible to booster. But I don't have personal experience with it.

As for pay increase, I get another $3 per hour for each additional child. Don't know if this is standard or not, but it works for us.

  2. Not sure where you live, but i would not hesitate asking $25 PLUS/ hr for this job. A newborn is a massive amount of work (but so worth it for those who love babies!)

I imagine your MB/DB is also thinking of the transportation piece and it's really their call to figure it out. Have you asked them about their thoughts? If a nanny vehicle is possible for them- that would be ideal for you.

  4. I have a suberu and the back seat isn't all that big but I can pretty easily fit 2 booster seats for the 6 and 4 yr old and the car seat for the 3 yr old... You will just have to grab a car seat from your bosses and test it out to see if it fits.

  5. Don't stress too much about the vehicle situation. The family will most likely help you out or provide one of their vehicles to drive. As far as pay, I would ask for $100-$150 more a week. Good luck!

I am in the same situation. Three boys ages 4, 2, and now 5 months. They did not all fit in my car. Family bought a van for me to use. As for raise it depends on your market and family. I asked for $200 more a week and got $100 with baby arrival. I compromised because I love my work environment and wasn't sure I could do better elsewhere. It came out to a $2 raise per hour.

  7. Op here. I have asked them about the car situation and they say they will buy a third car(GMC XL) but that I would be using the 4runner that they currently have to drive the kids around. I thought that was a little odd. That would mean db would drive the new big car to work and leave me with the smaller one. Anyways, in terms of pay, I am in seattle. Anyone out there in my area know what the going rate for three kids under 4 is? Or comparable cities? They take a lot of vacation witch I've always been greatful for. I also am working my ideal schedule of 4 10s. M-Thu. If she doesn't change my schedule I'd be willing to ask for a little less. what do you guys think? Thanks!!!

  8. OP they probably are not letting you drive the new car because insurance is more. Or they just don't want the kids to mess up the new car. Or they don't trust you.
