Job Hunting

opinion 1
How soon would you start looking for a job when you know the job you have will be done at the end of the year. I took a job caring for twins until their first birthday which falls at the end of the year. Would you wait until December or start now?

  1. I know that my job is going to end in September and I started looking about a month ago. I actually have a job interview today. I say it's never too early to start browsing/ seeing what's out there.
But you have to remember that most families aren't going to post jobs so far in advance. Most of the jobs you'll find are looking for people either for the summer, after the summer, or asap. It would be extremely rare to find a job listing for over 6 months away.

  2. I would put myself out there now..it couldn't hurt. There are actually some families who are expecting a baby later on, yet are starting their Nanny search early.

Due to the bad economy, if you wait a month to find a new position, it may take longer.

AT the very LEAST, I would try a month or two in advance.

I hope you find a new position. ☺

  3. You can go ahead and put your profile out now saying you won't have availability until the end of the year but you probably won't get very many calls yet. I'd say wait until Oct-Nov.

  4. I would register with an agency now, for a Jan. placement. Since you have infant twin experience, you would be very appealing to expectant moms, especially with multiples. They usually start looking well ahead of time, so in that case your not needing to start until Jan. would be a plus.

  5. I was with a family for 6 years. They told me in February that they wouldn't need me that coming September...I started looking immediately! I ended up accepting a position that June. You have to look after yourself first!
