Stepping Stone Museum - Harford County, Havre de Grace, Maryland
Stepping Stone Museum, Tuesday, 2/7, 3-5 pm - A large black woman with her hair (greyish dreds) pulled back into a pony tail, possibly wearing glasses, watching a boy about 18 months old with brown wavy hair was totally ignoring the little one in the slippery wet area as he struggled. She later yanked him by the arm and yelled at him "you gotta walk" - this was at least an hour later. She then yanked him up by one arm and lifted him up to her shoulder all in one motion and headed out. The kid looked like his shoulder went out of the socket! I observed her through the time I was there as she ignored him and yawned. No nuturing for this young child - so don't think oh how great she takes him to the museum.

ReplyDeleteOk. Well I don't think the kids arm slipped out of the socket. That would have caused the kid to scream out in pain.
ReplyDeleteThis lady was obviously too rough with him and showed little compassion and probably shouldn't be a nanny.
I'm not sure how you are not able to tell if someone is wearing glasses. They either are or they aren't.
But good sighting. It is sad when people can't seem to find caring individuals to raise their kids.
I swear every time there is a bad nanny sighting someone asks the poster how they know it was the nanny and not the mom/sister/cousin/aunt etc! It drives me nuts! How is the poster supposed to know that unless she asks? The point of the bad nanny sighting is to give a heads-up to parents out their that their nanny is not doing a stellar job at taking care of their child, if they so happen to read this blog. No, the poster does not know the relationship of the adult to the child. And before anyone makes excuses that maybe the "nanny" (if that's her real name) was having a bad day, maybe she was sick, maybe she was hungover, maybe this and maybe that, the fact of the matter is that she was not "up to par" with what the poster would consider a good nanny- hence BAD NANNY SIGHTING.

ReplyDeleteJedd Meir, methinks you need to check dictionary.com before being snarky.
ReplyDeleteStellar- "pertaining to a preeminent performer, athlete, etc."

ReplyDeletePhoenix, as usual I thought the same thing you did. "How can you not tell if someone's wearing glasses? Maybe OP needs a pair." were my exact thoughts.
ReplyDeleteVery good sighting though. Mean old nanny and a poor little baby who can't even tell on her! I hate hearing things like this. I hate even more hearing "How do you know it is the nanny?" Who cares?
MissMannah - we are obviously cut from the same cloth. LOL. I think you are a year younger than I am. I just turned 26 in January
ReplyDeleteStrawberryShortKakes,
ReplyDeleteI am sick to death of that question, also... and so are many others.
I delete anonymous posts and have decided to add that one to the list.
Yes Jedd, that is one definition. But the snark is still misplaced, because Strawberry used the word appropriately.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the Nanny took the child to the museum because the parents requested it.
ReplyDeleteShe sounds like a crummy Nanny. Doesn't sound to me like the child had a great experience like his parents probably wanted him to.

ReplyDeleteHappy late birthday, Phoenix. Nope I'm older than you are. I'll be celebrating my big 3-0 this summer.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I just like the word "stellar," lots of people in my area use that word. And sorry for the the "retort" or whatever but every time a bad nanny sighting is posted, someone asks that same question and I find it annoying!
ReplyDeleteJedd, stellar was a perfectly acceptable word, and Strawberry was justified in being snarky. The idiocy of the "How do you know it was the nanny?" question grates on nerves - if someone sees a child being maltreated, why not post the sighting here?
ReplyDeleteNanny, cousin, Aunt, Grandma, mom, stepsister's live-in lesbian best friend...the relationship to the child(ren) is irrelevant. The issue at hand is that a child was being treated badly by the person who is entrusted with their care, and this site exists so that people can report crappy caregivers.

ReplyDeleteJedd, I am sorry you feel that way but I am surely not the first poster to be "rude" on this blog and I certainly will not be the last. And I did not know that it was required to "know" someone before I reply to their post.
ReplyDeleteI do not feel like I was being, anyway. You cannot tell me (since I know you've been on this site for a while) that most, if not all, bad nanny sightings have a poster ask "how do you know it was a nanny?" Before another person asked that question or offered up an excuse as to why this adult was mistreating the child, I wanted to nip it in the bud. And yes, if this conversation were taking place in a face-to-face setting, I would certainly say right off the bat, "before anyone says it, we do not know that this is the nanny for certain but..." Why wait around for someone to say the obvious.

ReplyDeleteI don't know about these "sightings" and I wonder about the people sending them.
ReplyDeleteJedd is creepy. Calling you Deb? Is that your RL name? And then he says he could pick out another poster and her husband in a crowd? How stalker-ish! And to jump on someone else for being rude or snarky? Every other post he makes is rude or snarky!

ReplyDeleteJedd, I did not intend to be rude to the anonymous poster who asked how the OP knows it is the nanny etc etc. I have just seen the same back and forth conversation on the bad nanny sightings and I think it is more than clear that the OPs never truly know if it is the nanny. Even if that anonymous poster (who has since been removed due to MPP rules) is new to this site, I was not directing my comment at her/him. I think it serves no purpose to waste time having the same discussion (for those of us who have experienced it).
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that you have taken notice to my career (which I love by the way). But I am unsure how being an ABA therapist doesn't allow me to be "rude." I am just human and we all have our moments. I truly did not intend to be rude and I do try my best to be nice and understanding of all sides but sometimes emotions get the best of me... what can I say?
And for the record, yes, I would absolutely still have the same "snarky" intro in a face-to-face conversation and say “I swear every time there is a bad nanny sighting someone asks the poster how they know it was the nanny and not the mom/sister/cousin/aunt etc! It drives me nuts!” IDK but in my head it doesn't sound that rude or mean, I generally have a teacher-y tone. My apologies if it is offensive to you...

ReplyDeleteJedd,
ReplyDeletesince you are so skilled in the ways of the internet I'm sure you realize that your recent comments can be taken as a threat. right?

ReplyDeleteHey people have been charged with a lot less than your threats/stalking . Since you're so big on posters identifying themselves why do you have a picture of a little girl as your photo?
ReplyDeleteI'm certain you are not a little girl.
I also see you're an author. What have you published? I'm always on the lookout for new material.

ReplyDeleteYou can intepret my intentions any way you wish. I read your now delted comments as at the very least creepy and at the most threatening/stalkerish.
ReplyDeleteI understand your reasoning behind the photo.
But why a little girl? I doubt I'll actually get an answer on that one.
I really want to know if you are published?
What sort of children's books doo you write?
Please excuse the typos. Small keys and large fingers are not a great combo.

ReplyDeleteYou seem to be rather vague in answering questions or choose not to answer them at all like what I've asked about you being published?
ReplyDeletePerhaps, I assumed too much, so I ask why the little girl instead of a random adult?
As for your opinion of me feel free to love me, be disgusted by me or be indifferent.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI might be just that. I must say that I find it interesting you go straight to calling names instead of answering my questions.
ReplyDeleteYet still no answer why you picked a girl over an adult ( even an adult female), frog, chicken, Jed Clampett , Lucille Ball the list could go on.
Also no answer on what you have published, or intend to publish, and what type of children's books you write or are writing.

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for your loss, but why didn't you say that in your previous post where you seemed to suggest the photo was a random image?
ReplyDeleteSo no titles yet? Too bad I'm always looking for new reads for the kids in my life.
Have you considered self publishing?
If me being curious about why an adult would choose to represent themselves as a child , especially one that seemed to take issue with posters not truly representing themselves, makes me a sexist pig, well I'm the biggest, fattest, sexist pig of them all.

ReplyDeleteAgainst my better reasoning I'm participating in a conversation with a troll.
ReplyDeleteMy reasons for questioning your photo were twofold
1. I think it's strange when any adult male or female depicts themself as a child and wanted to know why youd show yourself as one.
2.I only pointed it out because it initially seemed to me you were being a hypocrite by calling out posters who don't have their pictures with their posts or post under a different name to call other posters out. It seemed a little hypocritical to me as you have a picture but it is not you.
If you want to assume otherwise to feel better about yourself and soothe your inssecurities so be it.
I'll happily be a sexist.
adieu
Oh, wait a second! Jedd, you're the poster who deletes your posts after a week or something, right? And you seem to have deleted a post above that cam across as creepy to another poster...
ReplyDeleteMeh. I dislike engaging with people on the internet who are afraid of allowing their comments and remarks to REMAIN on the internet. If you can't say it and stand behind it, don't post it.
Have a swell life in TX with your 3 little girl charges Jedd. Are you attending the INA conference this year?
Regular ISYN readers know that they're not supposed to accuse/assume the identity of other posters... but common sense dictates that this Blog keeps a record of it's traffic and visitors IP's are recorded when they come and go.
ReplyDeleteMissMannah, Phoenix and the other "anonymous" posters are not the same person.
And Jedd is correct about the possibility of photos being traced... so be careful what you use.
Yes, photos can be traced. If someone came on this site and saw my photo then saw me walking around Phoenix they would be able to tell its me. I just don't look like everyone else. But that is a photo of me, I wouldn't put up a photo of my kids or anything. That would make me too paranoid.
ReplyDeleteThank you MPP for clarifying the IP address thing. I don't know why it was acused that we were the same person.
