Dedicated Thread to Thrashing

rant 1
I am wondering if there is a way to tell the people who have made themselves the grammar and spelling police to stick to the topic. I am so sick of the same people being nasty to the posters and not having any advice other than to learn how to write.

  1. this site is known for having bashers on it for many other things besides grammar

the crux is that there are some nannies on this blog that get upset at the whole idea of people writing about/watching/scrutinizing the behavior of nannies

as long as a post is geared towards advice for nannies or their money/salary there is no bashing but when it's about any nanny siting except the most awful/dangerous the bashers come out in force to scare away potential ops

those of us who support the blog can continue to support any reasonable OP and make interesting posts

  2. Personally I like the varying opinions from others, even if they aren't "so nice". Who the hell wants to read the same droning comments over and over? Besides, it makes it interesting around here!

    Go Phoenix! And Missmannah! lol

    @Jedd Meir
I totally agree with you. It's really embarrassing how many people truly do not know how to spell or use the most basic and simple of grammar.

What you must keep in mind is that in the Nanny profession, there are many women who speak English as a second language.

  7. I also have to agree that spelling and grammar are important. In order to be taken seriously, one must present the question/advice/rant/etc in coherent English, at the very least.

  8. Some posts here tend to have such bad grammar that the point of the post is completely lost since none of us can make sense of it...this is a major reason for comments about bad spelling/grammar/language use. Seriously if you read it back to yourself and have not a clue what it says don't post it!!

  9. on another site i enjoy an OP posted a story that was really creative and amazing without one ounce of punctuation. Many people on the site reamed the kid (he was a kid)

with his permission i painstakingly edited his story using slightly better grammar and making punctuation and paragraphs

the discussion on his story went from making fun to many in depth comments including comparing him to a writer nameed lovecraft

the edited story won him a $10 prize in a contest

many of us are nannies - some compassion pleae? LOL

  11. I agree with you OP. If a poster is concerned about the welfare of children and goes to the trouble of posting, I think it is rude to criticize the spelling and/or grammar.
On the other hand, there have been a couple of posts that made snide remarks about nannies as a group lacking education. If you say nannies should go to college and get a real job for example, and then YOU make mistakes, you are fair game!

  12. Agreed with Jedd; I don't know why people don't use spell-check other than pure laziness. I am actually not that great at typing and make mistakes all the time--but you rarely see them because the squiggly red line catches them for me.

My sister used to be a high school French teacher and she said that students would hand in essays filled with "text-speak". They even would put LOL or :) in their essays. While my sister would correct these, she wasn't allowed to count off for it because the administration didn't feel as if it really mattered for the students to be strong writers. This is why teenagers are coming off as ignorant...because they are. They really do not know grammatical rules, because the teachers are no longer allowed to take the time to teach them.

  15. well maybe people should learn how to write. I make grammer and spelling mistakes but they are not common and if someone posts something and they seem to be stupid then I question whether or not they fully understand what they are writing in about anyway

  16. Phoenix,

Grammar is spelled with an "a". Your second sentence is a run on.
