See picture for stroller and nanny appearance
This nanny was asleep while propping up the bottle for the baby. (I was able to get close enough to tell by her breathing). She did not appear to be dozing, she seemed pretty soundly asleep.
This baby is strapped in and drinking a bottle, right? Perhaps we have a overworked nanny here. I guarantee it's a light sleep and she'll probably jump up if something happened. No, I don't condone a sleeping nanny, but I see no harm no foul here.
ReplyDeleteWBN, I think you've gone off your rocker. We obviously have an overworked nanny, but that is entirely beside the point. If a nanny is overworked, she needs to do some time management so she gets plenty of sleep at night and is rested for work. Or arrange it with the boss that she can sleep when the baby is sleeping. NOT in public! And certainly not propping up a bottle in the baby's mouth! I thought everyone and their brother knew propping bottles was a big no-no these days.
ReplyDeleteNOT okay!! No way!!!! Sleeping, on the job? With an infant?!?!? HORRIBLE.
ReplyDeleteShe looks too old. Not the kinda of work for an older person
ReplyDeleteI think this is a legitimate Bad Nanny Sighting. Even if it is just a "light" sleep, she shouldn't be cat napping like that in public. Since she is watching an infant, I am pretty sure the baby takes naps so if she is really that overworked, she can nap alongside the baby (at home!!)
ReplyDeleteI was considering working as a live-in nanny in NYC. One of the reasons I decided not to do it was because most of the jobs were 5 days a week, 24 hrs./day. Every time I see a siting like this, I wonder if it's one of those types of situations. Are the children waking up at night and the nanny expected to be up with them, then expected to be bright eyed and bushy tailed during the day? NO, I DO NOT condone sleeping on the job, but I don't know why those parents expect the best of both worlds. The money was good, but it felt too much like bondage to me, and it's not realistic. Nanny needs down time outside of the house, and a good night's sleep.
ReplyDeleteMan, I say props to her for being able to sleep in that position. That is talent!
ReplyDeletePropping a bottle, AND asleep while doing it, in a park yet. Where do people find these nannies? Surely they don't have references who rave about how wonderful they are.
ReplyDeleteEricsmom,
As for ageism, I know a nanny in her sixties who has more energy than two twenty somethings.
The best nanny I ever had was in her early seventies when I first knew her (yes, she was more comfortable with babies that were not walking yet, but she was quite able to handle a toddler). How do you know how old the nanny in the picture is anyway?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure if she was aloud to nap at home she would. Probably works for people who make her scrub the floors, walls, and their rich fat asses.
ReplyDeleteI guess mothers never fall asleep breast feeding. And never suffocate their children in the process or roll over them. THINK PEOPLE. And stop trying to ruin a clearly over worked and tired nanny. No offense bit she doesn't strike me as the kind who shakes her ass at a club til 6am every night so suggesting she manage her time better is ignorant. For all you know she could have an on call job like many nannies. Or another job to make ends meets.
She fell asleep with a kid strapped in. She wasn't hitting the baby.
"I don't know",
ReplyDeleteAre you for real? This nanny is sleeping in public! Sure she would probably wake up if someone tried something funny, but what if she didn't? Not to mention the fact that she is sleeping while bottle feeding, which is beyond dangerous. Propping a bottle is never ok, but propping a bottle **and** sleeping??
Honestly, if she works for parents who are terrible employers, I feel bad for her. I really do. Just not as bad as I feel for the baby she is endangering.

ReplyDeleteA busy, or sleepy nanny's best friend.
I have just one question for everyone...If it were your child in that stroller, how secure would you be at work, if you knew your Nanny was napping on the job at a public place? Imagine how easy it would be for someone to snatch that child and take him or her away within seconds?????????
ReplyDeleteworld's best nanny...
ReplyDeleteThat is a horrible product! I can't even believe they sell something like that! Babies need to be held when they have their bottles. I take care of multiples, and I still hold each one when I feed them. This is just another way for parents to not hold their babies. I hope they don't sell many of these bottles.
It is not meant for use constantly! I had one. I used to recline my son while strapped into his high chair. I then would roll the high chair into the bathroom so I could take a shower. It was a Godsend! It is great for use while baby is in their car seat as well. It is NOT meant for use by a newborn, and after 6-9 months or so they'll just rip it apart! By that age they should be able to hold their own bottle.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry - I just don't understand those of you who think that sleeping while caring for an infant - particularly in a public park - is in any way ok. This is a major major safety issue. Aside from the possibility of the baby being snatched in seconds, there are less dramatic but still frightening possibilities. What if a kid on a bicycle hurtled toward the stroller? An alert caregiver would at least be able to move the stroller. Never mind the bottle propping, which is the least of my concerns in this scenario.
ReplyDeleteIf the nanny is overworked, sick, whatever, she needs to say so and not take care of the child if she is putting it in danger.
Perhaps she is praying.
ReplyDeleteI am rather new to nannying and do not have kids of my own so I was curious as to why bottle propping is so bad? I personally have never propped a bottle (and I have fed a lot of babies) but you all talk about it like it is a sin! I have heard of people doing it, especially when caring for multiples who are hungry at the same time. Anyway, I was just wondering what's so bad about it? Thank!
ReplyDeleteOH Well your right, lol. I don't know how old she is. Just opinion. Well maybe, she is an older mother that got tired out. You know its common in NY to see moms in their 40's have infants. I live across the river in Bergen County. I am not a young mom either. My son is 5 and I am 36
ReplyDelete: )
If you prop a bottle, you aren't paying attention to how much milk is flowing into the baby's mouth and when she stops sucking, it just pools in there and she could choke. And milk pooling in an older child's mouth causes tooth decay.
ReplyDeleteLet me ask - How are you 100% positive this is a Nanny? You can't always judge a book...
ReplyDeleteIt's a nanny.
ReplyDeleteShe is sleeping on the job.
In new york, where deviants and miscrants roam free.
The child could have been adducted and sold alongside a faux Yves St Laurent bag in china town.
Find this nanny and fire her!
And to all of the nannies making excused for this despicable sighting, may you too lose your jobs, because I wouldn't trust you to scratch my dog's right ear.
