This is what my husband and I have been saying from the start. We took my step-son out of football because everyone got a trophy for not even trying! We put him in boxing. There is a winner and a loser. There is disappointment and thats good. My kid does everything on his own and if wants help he asks for it.
The other day my husband was jogging with his son. They were training in training for boxing. And his son was sweating and panting. A stranger comes along and tells his son that he doesn't have to run anymore if he doesn't want to and if it's too hard. Now WFT!????? We are trying to teach our kid to work hard and you will get rewarded. Then some ass comes along and takes away all his confidence. Luckily his son is smart and told the guy that he was crazy and it's none of his business. That guy was so lucky my husband didn't just react like he normally does, because he would have been eating out or a straw.
Point being. This clip was perfect and it's nice to finally know some other people out there understand what is happening to most kids is plain ass wrong.
@Phoenix - wait, your husband's normal reaction to a stranger voicing his opinion would be to beat said stranger to the point of needing to eat out of a straw? Yeah, that's good parenting.
I still remember taking a (former) charge to play basketball, and looking for the score at one point in the game. Seeing zeros. and knowing her team had scored at least 4 baskets, I asked her big brother what was going on. He said, with an eye roll, "They don't keep score so no one get's hurt feelings."
I almost fell off the bleachers! What insanity was this? I played sports, won or lost, and the world kept turning despite my hurt or happy feelings. Are kids that fragile today?
In any case, my charge's team won, and when she came off the court I congratulated her. Her rsponse? "Yeah, we won 24 - 6!!" I guess no scorekeeping is really needed, huh? The kiddos KNOW!
Let kids fail, lose, and have hard times. They'll be better off for it. Yes, it's hard to go through that with them, but the alternative is kids who are incapable of coping with reality.

Oh, I can't stand that stupid idea that all the must get a trophy, whether they win or lose. That's just so silly!
