Hey! I am a first time full time live out Nanny in Center City Philadelphia. I love my job but my charge is only 5 months old so it's very quiet. Most of my friends are still in school and I have not been able to connect with other nannies (craigslist, meetup, googling; nothings working). Could you direct me to where I could find other nannies to meet up with or at least to talk to? I have lots of questions and would love someone to relate to! Thanks so much! Kate
You can join a playgroup or a gymboree type of class. You may be with mothers, but it will still give you and baby some outside interaction.
ReplyDeleteI have found that it is easier to meet people through child focused activities. I go to Stroller Strides, lapsits, music and gym classes or when the baby is a little bit older you could go to the playground or museums. At least in my area, most children's activities during the day have about 60-70% nannies with the kids.
ReplyDeleteLook at Meetup.com, and if there isn't a group for nannies, start one!
ReplyDeleteDo you use Facebook? Search for nanny related groups there.
nanny.org, the International Nanny Association's website, lists the following info for the Philly area:Philly Nannies
(Philadelphia Area)
Contact: Sue Downey and Sibyl Snow
Email: Suedowneypa@aol.com
Web Site: www.phillynannies.org
Other possible contacts:

If you'd like to email me through my blog, I can direct you to a nanny I know in Philly who is very active in the community there!
Kate I work as a nanny right near Philadelphia and would love to talk and meet up perhaps I have the same problem of not finding people on meetup etc.
ReplyDeleteYou can continue posting ads on CL stating that you would love to socialize w/other Nannies in your area. Try to be patient regarding responses...it may take some time. Like Anon stated, a library story time can be another great way to meet other Nannies, however I tend to find only Stay-at-Home Wives/Mothers at these events.
ReplyDeleteHave you asked your bosses if it would be okay to take their baby out of the house and socialize w/other Nannies? I would check w/them just in case.
Good Luck OP!!

ReplyDeleteKate,
ReplyDeleteI am in NJ, but I have heard WONDERFUL things about Philly Nannies. Sue Downey is the owner/moderator of the group, and is an absolutely wonderful person!!
I would go to Rittenhouse Square or Washington Square parks - lots of kids and nannies playing there.
ReplyDeleteLibrary story time is a good place to meet nannies too! I was a Philly nanny (well, Main Line) until recently (had to take a full time position outside of nannying with benefits...miss my little guy!!!) If you are able to travel, I know of a few awesome nannies out in the Wynnewood/Bala area.
ReplyDeleteI am a center city/Rittenhouse area nanny. You can find many nannies at the billygoat statue in rittenhouse park between the hours of 10am-lunchtime and after naptime, like 2-4ish.
ReplyDeleteHey all,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the suggestions. When it is not a heat wave I will take my little one over to Rittenhouse. My email is k.hinchey@gmail.com if you guys would like to email me the info you have! Thanks again!
