.... WHAT?!
Feature:
1) Kind, welcoming family in search of the Perfect Nanny! (Boston)
My name is Avagail and my husband's name is Adam. Just like our title says, we are a kind, welcoming family looking for a nanny for our wonderful children: 3 year old son (Adam III), and 9-month-old twins (Avagail Jr. and Eli) in our home in Brookline. My husband is the financial advisor to a company in Boston, and I am a doctor of physical therapy looking to return to work part-time for approximately three 6-hour shifts per week. So, I will be home some of the time that overlaps with when the nanny is at our home. We want the best for our children, so our nanny only needs to focus on childcare related tasks -- never any housekeeping! We consider childcare tasks:
- general childcare (Kosher feedings, diaper changes, bathing)
- providing intellectual stimulation, reading books, etc.
- going for walks
- children's laundry
- stripping children's beds and changing sheets
- food shopping for children
- vacuuming and dusting the children's rooms
- tidying any messes that the children make
- organizing children's toys
- transporting children to playdates and activities
- others, as to be discussed
We have a bit of flexibility in the hours that we need childcare for our children, so we have outlined the different options. Again, our priority is to find the best nanny available, so we want you to be able to choose the schedule that works for you. The salary is a generous $325 to $345 per week, commensurate with experience.
OPTION 1 - M and Tu (7:30 am to 8:15 pm); Th and F (7:15 am to 8:00 pm)
OPTION 2 - All 5 weekdays (8:00 am to 9:30 pm)
OPTION 3 - M, W, Th (5:30 am to 7:00 pm); one overnight from Saturday at 8:30 am to Sunday at 7:45 pm
Additional benefits:
- weekly stipend for your Kosher food (up to $20-25/week)
- we will pay for the laundry detergent needed for the children's clothing
- we will provide gas money if you use your vehicle to transport our children more than 50 miles per week (for miles incurred beginning with the 51st mile)
- 3 PAID vacation/sick days per year (after you have been working with us for 6 months). NOTE: We must be given at least 2 weeks notice
- the benefit of working with a loving, open, welcoming family

Add number 1, really you will pay
ReplyDeletefor laundry detergent for your own
children's laundry, WOW. Plus a meager
salary on top of that.
Great job again MPP.
ReplyDeleteGood for #4. It is great seeing a male who wants to work in child care. We need more males in child care, especially working with younger kids.
ReplyDeletei sent in the feature ad... I was just doing a bit of research on how the job market is for my imminent move back to the states and found that. I thinking I´ll be staying in Europe a little longer if that´s whats considered a generous salary now!
ReplyDelete#2 is posting an ad for a last minute sitter because she doesn't want to call known sitters "out of the blue"?? So you'd rather have a stranger watching your child than a person who has sat for the child before. Maybe the cops should start monitoring childcare sites and arrest these stupid people for child endangerment!
ReplyDeleteOMG I love that #1's daughter is Avagail Jr. LOL. I always wanted to have a girl and name her Lindsey Jr. I had 3 boys though.
ReplyDelete#1 wants to pay five bucks an hour for the PREFECT nanny, thinks the nanny owes them the first 50 miles of travel each week, and will pay for Kosher food up to $25, which is about one or two meals, three tops. Oh, did I mention there is an overnight in there somewhere? The bonus is the BossMom will be around all but a few hours a week, I'm guessing driving the nanny bloody frickin' nuts. (But they pay for the laundry detergent? LOLROTF)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that.
I think #8 is looking for a serf, and that went out in the 19th century. So many people looking for a lot for a so little.
ReplyDeleteI used to run a child minding service, charged $20 an hour, and that included feeding, bathing, and looking after the children, as well as cleaning the kitchen and living areas. I had more customers than I could handle, and that was years ago.
What the hell has happened to people? What do you think you are going to get for less than $5 a hour?
#15 has a good point, though I'm not sure her ad looking for work was the best place for it.
ReplyDeleteplease give us advance notice at least three days in advance before you get sick. Boy, those nannies that get sick the day after they are exposed to your germy children and don't give you three days notice are awful!!!!! You should make them pay for YOUR children's laundry detergent as punishment! that will teach them!
ReplyDeleteoh, and are Ramen noodles kosher? because that's about what you could get on a generous food stipend such as this delusional nutcase is offering
ReplyDeleteMidwestnanny said... #1 wants TWO WEEKS notice to take a sick day after six months of working for them.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about you, but I always get an Email notifying me that I will be getting sick in two weeks.
You'd have to be crazy to work for that crazy lady.
a doctor of physical therapy? surely, you jest.
ReplyDeletei LOVE when parents throw in they will pay for something they already should be paying for as if its a bonus. We'll pay for our own laundry detergent, but we're totally taking the cost of air conditioning our house during your work hours out of your pay
ReplyDeleteConcerning #1, you guys are freakin' hilarious! I love the jokes!
ReplyDeleteJane, thank you so much!
Isn't that nice? #1 will pay for the laundry detergent for the kids clothes! I hope so since it's their machine, their water, their electricity, and their kids clothes! Or do they expect you to pay for those as well?
ReplyDeleteWith that salary, while they are paying for soap the nanny will be cleaning out the jewelery, obtaining pin numbers and cleaning out bank accounts!
what is wrong with number 4? The boy sounds like he is great with children. I know most people like having females watch their children but if you had all boys it would definitely be nice to have a boy sitter to play with them. Is it just me who doesn't see the problem with this one?
ReplyDeleteI googled doctor of physical therapy. If you already have a bachelor degree, you can get the DPT in one year or less, and you can get it online! It says the salary is the same whether you have a bachelors or the so called DPT. Either way, they are called PTs.
ReplyDeleteUm. A generous compensation? I make that much and I work Tuesday's and Thursday's only out in the SUBURBS of MA. When I worked in Brookline I made 700/wk without those responsibilities.
ReplyDeleteAlex,
ReplyDeleteI think it was put on there because it isn't something you see every day, and the ad is interesting too. Just because it is on WTF, doesn't mean it is on for being bad...
I thought being a fat unattractive nanny would be a sure shoe in for a job, no mom want a really cute girl around her hubby
ReplyDeleteNot sure how much luck #3 is going to have. She's looking for a job taking care of children but admits that she is in treatment for an eating problem? Good for her, but is that something you really want to put out there immediately?
ReplyDeleteSome people are just so weird!
I really wonder about people like #1. They seem educated, etc, so where are they getting their information about what constitutes a "generous salary"?
ReplyDeleteAnd what, exactly do they consider housekeeping, if not stripping the beds, vacuuming, dusting, etc?
Where I come from laundry, stripping beds, vacuuming, dusting, etc is called housework! But then again what do I know? I'm just a stay at home mom.
ReplyDeleteWow, laundry detergant to do your child's laundry! What a perk! That's better than a cell phone, car, or paid vacation! Hire me!
ReplyDeleteI loved the advert for #4, really well done. The sexist in me hopes he is on the up and up.
ReplyDelete#8 look s more like a small household manager job then solely a Nanny. Those jobs I have seen to be in the 48-60k+ nature. Wonder what they mean by "This is not a high paying role."
#1:
ReplyDeleteEach working hour option gets worse from #1 to #3. None of themn are equivelent in hours. From 4 days 12.75 hours/days, to 5 days @ 11.5 hours/day to a whopping 75.75 hour 5 day work week.
Curious Dad - I noticed that too. Really, what were these people thinking?
ReplyDeleteI also agree with all the other posters - I LOLed when they were generous enough to provide detergent. Wow, thanks!
Maybe, but they probabl;y take the cost of the water and electricity out of the nanny's pay!
ReplyDelete#1 I love that she willing to pay for gas only over 50 miles of driving their kids around. I would have to spend...$20 (in current Boston gas prices) of my own money to drive her kids before she'd spend a dime. And that's what they'd give me for groceries? That's...two loaves of bread, peanut butter, jelly, a gallon of milk, and three apples. Minimum wage is $8.60 an hour here. This is....$4 an hour at option 3 once you take out gas (but don't forget to add in groceries!)
