Nanny sighting, Riverside park. Nanny with black pram, african with african hat on and accent assuming to africa. Nanny was pushing pram but first the pram isnt for such a big kid. Her charge was about 1 1/2. Second, she was feeding him out of a full size cereal box and she was feeding him "sugar smacks". The cereal in a red box with a frog on it. Third, she asked me to watch the boy while she went to look for a restroom. I am a stranger to her. I could have kidnapped that child! The nanny was dressed in nurse shoes, s print smock and pink linen pants. Like a nurse, I guess. The child had not much hair at all, huge brown eyes, white, wearing a striped polo with just two stripes, white and green. He ate more sugar smacks in the time I watched them than any twelve year old should!
Wow. I must be a terrible nanny because first, my twins stroller is a bit small for them, but the parents haven't bought new one yet. And second) I feed them cereal (gasp!) and it's not the healthy kind. It's the sugary kind that most children eat. And my employers know! They bought it! Thank you for pointing out that I should be fired from my job. Normally I never critisize the OP; however, this is ridiculous. Aside from the restroom point (which is bad, I am definitely NOT condoning that) the rest is complete B.S.
ReplyDeleteI would never feed my charge cereal. It contains mostly out of sugar and a toddler is not supposed to eat that!
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you want to do something good and give your charge fruit instead? It's better for his/her teeth and health in general. The parents will appreciate your thoughts!
Anyway, good post OP!
A NANNY left her charge with a STRANGER to go to the bathroom!!! THAT is the point of this post and it's a great sighting. Why in the world would you pick a fight with this OP-the sighting is more than appropriate. I for one hope the parents see this and fire that lady before she leaves their child with someone who does god knows what. THat is just scary!!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! MPP please delete the comment by Jason Giddeon, that was COMPLETELY Uncalled for!
ReplyDeleteBesides the cereal, this was a great sighting OP!
Good thing I was up so early! Jeez, some people!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Katlee85.
LovingNanny, I feed the children what their parents ask me to. End of story.
ReplyDeleteAnd it is so much easier! Just open the package, done.
ReplyDeleteFruit you have to wash first, then cut it and it might be messy.
Do you do everything the parents tell you to, even if it's bad for the kids? Did you try talking to them and explaining to the mom and dad, that the sugary stuff is going to ruin their kids teeth and will make them fat?
Yes, as a matter of fact, I do. But seeing as how this is my job, and they are NOT my kids, I go by what I am paid and instructed to do. I don't do the grocery shopping, and am not about to spend my own money. You can lose the sarcastic and inferior tone.
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely terrible that the nanny tried to leave her charge with a stranger!!! So why does the focus of the post seem to be more on what type of cereal the kid ate, which is more a problem with the parents?! It really detracts from the sighting.
ReplyDeleteIf a nanny is feeding a child that age copious amounts of cereal out of a cereal box and keeping him in the stroller, than obviously she is prying him with food to keep him in the stroller so she doesnt have to get up and move around. this is relevant. nannies are responsible for all the fat kids in NYC!
ReplyDeleteThe only thing wrong here was that she asked a stranger to watch the kid.
ReplyDeleteCereal = irrelevant. If you have a problem with a child's eating habits take it up with their parents. Unfortunately, not every person is health conscious whether they should be or not; and telling your BOSS that THEIR child will become fat (as "LovingNanny" suggested) is a spectacular way to lose your job! Whether you agree with a child's eating habits or not is truly a mind your own business moment, people do have the right to choose what they consume and what their own children too will consume.
ReplyDeleteStroller being too small = irrelevant. Again, this is an issue that is none of your business, and pertains solely to the parents. It is not any nannies job to purchase new equipment (including strollers) for her charges - this task lies squarely on mom and/or dad's shoulders. Life gets busy, money can get tight, kids grow quickly...
Lastly, stranger watching child = very relevant. At no time should any caregiver be naive or lazy enough to allow any adult (whether male or female) to watch their charge or child for them. You can NOT judge a book by it's cover. This last occurrence is grounds for dismissal, as it is a form of child endangerment.
Thanks for posting this sighting OP. I am not trying to belittle any of what you wrote, and was only attempting to clarify the cereal and stroller issue (who truly makes those decisions). I do hope the parents see this sighting!
I am the OP of this! The cereal was relevant. No parent sends their child to a park to be strapped in to their seat for hours on end. Children go to parks so they can get out and PLAY. Do you think if I would have thought there was anything normal about the feeding of the cereal I would have included it? I'm not a moron.
ReplyDeleteI'm a NY nanny. The best of the best.
Wait...because you're a NY nanny, you're the best of the please? Oh please...And according to your post, she was pushing him. And now you are saying she basically just left him in the stroller. Which is it? Because I'm kind of confused with the flip flopping. And thank you, Lola. At least someone gets things.
ReplyDeleteOutrageous conduct by the nanny, soliciting a stranger to look after her charge. *I hope I hope I hope* that she gets fired as she so desperately deserves.
ReplyDeleteJust because the parents had a box of cereal in their house does not mean they are condoning taking the whole box and feeding this much to the child. I say, post the info., let the parents sort it out.
ReplyDeleteI always am suspicious of anyone who thinks they are the "best of the best." Confidence is great, but I have found that if you take yourself too seriously, nobody else ever will.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your superiority complex, OP. I'm going to go eat a bowl of lucky charms now.
I don't see anything wrong with the stroller because that isn't her responsibility BUT leaving your charge with a stranger is ridiculous!! Those parents need to know! I would have probably called the cops at that point to be able to get the parent's names. I know that may be a little extreme but honestly, if that nanny left him with you she has probably done it before and it could be anyone!!
